I'm hearing about all this love for Duke. I know Virginia just lost their quarterback, and look like shit right now, but c'mon would anybody in their right mind take Duke. They have won 1 ACC game in the last 8 years. THAT IS 8 YEARS WTF. Not only do they have to win here, but they have to cover 7 points. Duke may win, and cover, but I don't think anyone should take this risk. If you're going to bet this game i'd take the under. Oh and Virginia +230 on the ML against a team that has 1 win in the last 8 years in their conference, almost have to take it even if it loses. Like to hear some thoughts guys.

One more thing I know Duke is off to their best start in probably forever. Their 2-1 record doesn't mean shit though, a win against 1-2 Navy and James Madison. No doubt they are a better team, all i'm trying to say is I don't think that makes them a play.

agree with your under lean; and i definitely see your point about history....that has probably been drilled into the virginia's heads that they are this big of an underdog to lowly duke. however, from a matchup perspective, i think the line is definitely warranted, and if not for the history might even be higher. they will have a significant advantages in the trenches on both sides of the ball, the better defense, and virginia has very little explosiveness on offense. on paper, duke should win soundly; but i understand your point as well, which is the main reason i didn't take them

I'm hearing about all this love for Duke. I know Virginia just lost their quarterback, and look like shit right now, but c'mon would anybody in their right mind take Duke. Locked that under in yesterday once my boy VegasKyle told me about possible bad weather. Got it capped below 44 on a clear sunny day.Weather factors make it that much better for us under backers.

Three wins.

Duke is clearly the better team now, Duke's at home, and it's payback time.

I like Duke in this matchup; they'll be very motivated and fired up to break their long ACC losing streak. Except for maybe WR and LB, you'd be hard pressed to find a position where Duke does not have an advantage...plus their advantage at QB is huge. Cutliffe is clearly changing the culture at Duke...this yr, for all practical purposes...Virginia IS Duke.

I know Virginia just lost their quarterback, and look like shit right now, but c'mon would anybody in their right mind take Duke.

I locked in Duke -7 yesterday, but I sometimes wonder if I am in my right mind.

Three wins.

Duke is clearly the better team now, Duke's at home, and it's payback time.

1 win or 3 wins it doesn't really matter. That is still a ridiculous stat. I wouldn't say Duke is clearly the better team either. Each team has only played three games, and Dukes schedule is nothing compared to Virginia's playing USC and @UCONN.

The Only team Duke had really played is NW who beat them at home. Doubt home field makes much of a difference here. The season is long, and we don't know very much about either team. One thing we do know is Duke has won 3 conference games in 8 years, and they will always suck.

If seeing each team play three games, which you probably haven't seen either team play this year is enough for you to back them then go ahead.

I just don't see how anyone would back them here especially laying 7 points. EVen taking the ML isn't worth the price here considering Duke's track record.

Forget even about conference play, SU Duke is 3-24 there last 3 years, and 37-147 in their last 16 years. In their last 16 years of conference play they are 16-112, and 0-16 their last 3 years.

One more thing in their last 3 years against teams with losing records they are 0-6, and in the last 12 years 8-32.

Some of their players may have developed, and they may be better this year but they still know don't how to win football games.

The last three years at home they are also 3-12. I just can't seem to buy into them going to win in a route even if they are better this year.

THEY ARE DUKE FOOTBALL

If these stats don't scare you enough to lay off them than you have some mighty big balls. There are better games than this to play. I would never lay points with them untill they prove they can beat a BCS school.

1 win or 3 wins it doesn't really matter.

Actually, it matters a lot. Two of the three wins came within the first four games of Ted Roof's tenure, which shows you how much of a difference a new coach and an attitude adjustment can make even when the athletes involved are Duke football players with two winless seasons in the previous three years.

Just to recap, Roof took over in 2003 with 4 games left. Results:

at Tenn -- lost 6-23 as +24.5 (cover)
Ga Tech -- won 41-17 as +13.5 (cover)
at Clem -- lost 7-40 as +13.5 (ATS loss)
at UNC -- won 30-22 as +5.5 (cover)

In other words, the last time Duke changed coaches, the new coach won two of his first three ACC games by more than the spread on this week's UVA game. And he did it with a team that had lost its previous 30 ACC games.

MW, You basically took my post...thanks for delving into the information and not just posting the obvious...

One more thing I know Duke is off to their best start in probably forever. Their 2-1 record doesn't mean shit though, a win against 1-2 Navy and James Madison. No doubt they are a better team, all i'm trying to say is I don't think that makes them a play.

JMU is arguably one of the better 1-AA teams (or whatever the NCAA
bureaucrats now call that division) and they recently beat App. St. S/U.
but JMU sucks, and App. St. sucks.

They held Navy to their lowest rushing output in '08 so far, compared to Ball St. and Rutgers..(but in your mind...Ball St. sucks, Rutgers sucks).

Finally, Duke outgained Northwestern in yardage 472-328, and rushing yardage 178-77. But I know, Northwestern sucks too. By the way Northwesten held Ohio to 232 yards total offense, and only 4 yards rushing, but that's ok cause they suck also. Interesting cause Ohio put up 254 on Ohio St., inlcuding 145 rushing on Ohio St. !!

Duke's QB has a 5/0 TD - INT ratio., but he sucks too.

David Cutliffe was one of the more respected coaches in the SEC at Ole Miss, but since he coaches now at Duke, he sucks too.

I don't even know why i'm contributing to this idiotic thread cause any plausible arguement that anyone makes about Duke being a reasonable play, you just dismiss it.

In fact, it sounds like to me that you are trolling for affirmation to justify taking Virginia, since Duke sucks.

So go ahead and take UVA +7, a team that been outscored 17-97 in 2 games vs. BCS teams, and was led Richmond 3-0 at home midway through the 4th quarter in their only win.

I'm not saying anyone should take Virginia at all. I'm saying that there are better games out there than to take Duke.
