UFC 319: Du Plessis/Chimaev​

Initial thoughts:
  • Karine Silva (18-5) is a beast, and even coming off a loss, I must back her to get back on track.
  • Barbosa (24-12) had his first UFC fight in Nov 2010. He is only 2 years older than Klose (15-3) but the quality of the fighters they've faced is huge. I think maybe Edson still has something left and will showcase some high level striking.
  • Hooper (16-3-1) has blossomed into a real threat at LW. He should be at least equal to Hernandez (16-8) standing and when it hits the mat, it's only a matter of time.
  • Loopy and Jessica may have a bloody entertaining fight, considering how they both fight...but I got no clue and will pass on this one.
  • Susurkaev (9-0) looks to be a Chimaev clone and gets fed a WW at MW on short notice. This one finishes fast.
  • Prates (21-7) vs Neal (16-6)...I believe "Handz of Steel" is getting overlooked here. Prates has been on a roll, at least until Ian Garry dominated him in a one-sided decision back in April. Prates has made his name with highlight reel KOs, usually early on, but Neal is a savvy vet who has only succumbed to strikes once in 22 fights, and that was over 8 years ago to Kevin Holland before either had made it to the UFC. I think Carlos may get a little too careless chasing the KO, and find out what "Handz of Steel" is all about. Neal's a force at boxing range with power and counter punching technique.
  • They got the odds wrong at the top of the card, I really don't understand Murphy as a dog, dude's a step away from championship and undefeated. Pico wasn't even the Bellator champ, just highly ranked. Chimaev is a beast, no doubt, and I could see him a small fav. But come on. -255 is crazy. I'll take DDP at +235 all day and may slide a small play on a late finish.
  • Should be a fun card, and I am looking forward to it. Hate that Battle fucked his weight again, as that guy is a great fighter. He missed at 170 by 4lbs in Dec, and yesterday he misses again by 4lb at 185, WTF?

Fighting for the first time in 20 months, Tim Elliott (21-14-1) looked good with a second-round guillotine choke submission of former Rizin champion Kai Asakura.

Performance: Carlos Prates​

In a rarity, Carlos Prates (22-7) found out he was getting a bonus while he was still in the cage, after his R1 KO of Geoff Neal. What’s crazy is, while Prates’ spinning back elbow KO was great – it not have been the best one of the night.

Performance: Lerone Murphy​

Lerone Murphy (17-0-1) was inexplicably the dog vs former Bellator standout Aaron Pico in his UFC debut. Murphy left no doubt when he drilled Pico with a spinning back elbow that had him out on the canvas for a scary long time.

Performance: Khamzat Chimaev​

In a dominant performance, Khamzat Chimaev (15-0 ) easily took the middleweight belt from Dricus Du Plessis in the Main Event. The punch stats were quite comical...
