UFC 309: JONES VS MIOCIC
@ MADISON SQUARE GARDEN - NEW YORK CITY, NY

Solid card but not over the top, they expect top 2 fights can carry the card. No matter how much people try and bad mouth Jones 𓅰 𓅬 𓅭 𓅮 𓅯, they can't get enough when he's in the ring.

Another shitty week for me last week. It's been over 3 months since I put together 2 winning weeks in a row, for fuck's sake! 🧐

UFC 309: JONES VS MIOCIC

Early Prelims:

2/5.40 Eduarda Moura/Veronica Hardy u2½ +270

  • 4/1.43 Oban Elliott -280
  • 4/4.35 OBAN ELLIOTT IN ROUNDS 1 OR 2 +435
  • 3/3.00 JHONATA DINIZ +100
_132639121_gettyimages-1632603753.jpg

  • Bassil Hafez(9-4-1)-Oban Elliott(11-2) should play out closer than odds would suggest...but that's merely an illusion, as Elliott is much more complete and should be in control anywhere the fight goes.
  • Gall at 7-6 and favored, WTF...just can't.
  • Step up fight for Diniz(8-0, 7 KO's) but he's going to have to get through the Tybura's if he's wanting to be ranked and move on up. We will find out quickly, as Tybura is very experienced with a solid striking game.

Early Prelims:
❌2/5.40 Eduarda Moura/Veronica Hardy u2½ +270
✅4/1.43 Oban Elliott -280
❌4/4.35 OBAN ELLIOTT IN ROUNDS 1 OR 2 +435
[1-2 -1.65u]

3/3.00 JHONATA DINIZ +100 (moved later in card)

FX Prelims:

  • 2/4.90 DAVID ONAMA BY KO/TKO/DQ AND RD 1 +245
  • 3/3.60 Roberto Romero/David Onama Under 1½ +120
  • 3/1.43 Damon Jackson -210
  • 3/2.08 DAMON JACKSON vs JIM MILLER o2½ -144
  • 4/4.32 Jonathan Martinez +108

  • Onama(12-2) gets last minute replacement opponent in Roberto Romero (8-3-1). Onama has been on a roll and should make short work tonight. Romero, in his UFC debut, will however bring an element of unpredictability to the fight. Onama should be able to control distance with his powerful striking game, negating any potential sub/grappling strength Roberto brings.
  • Jim "Fucking" Miller (37-18) gets a tough matchup vs
  • "The Leech" Damon Jackson...who is just so relentless chasing takedowns and will likely see a number of those scenarios against the cage. Daman(23-7-1) has only been subbed once, and that's likely Miller's best chance at winning with his guillotine. I'll side with the Leech dominating with lots of control time, although I don't see either fighter getting a finish.
  • Jonathan Martinez (19-5) won 6 straight before losing to Aldo in his last. He needs another big win tonight to ge back on track. Marcus McGhee (10-1) has finished his 1st 3 opponents in the UFC, all in the first 2 rounds and he is well-rounded with good striking, however I can see Martinez staying at range utilizing his kicks, movement, and speed and picking McGhee apart from the outside.

Stipe looked like Glass Joe or else Jon looked huge

Man that was such a mismatch from day 1 but until I saw it....just wow

Fight Of The Night: Charles Oliveira vs Michael Chandler 2

If you just looked at the stats without having seen the fight, you might be inclined to believe that the rematch between Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler was one-way traffic, with the bus driven by ‘Do Bronx.’ But despite Oliveira’s absolutely clinical, multi-faceted performance, it was the dog in Michael Chandler that made this one Fight of the Night. A more cautious referee might have called it for Chandler as he was raining blows down on Oliveira in the fifth frame. And even more impressive was Chandler’s sheer strength in the waning seconds, as he---not once but twice—stood up with Oliveira clinging to his back and attempted to slam him in reverse. From the opening bell, it was an edge-of-your seat affair, just like we expected it would be.

Performance Of The Night: Oban Elliott

The first finish of the evening was delivered courtesy of “The Welsh Gangster” Oban Elliott, who scored his third career KO in spectacular fashion. It’s not easy to stay patient in a fight with an opponent as dangerous and imposing as Bassil Hafez, but it was that was Elliott’s gamble, and it paid huge dividends.1731845720459.png

Performance Of The Night: Ramiz Brahimaj

The Bronx’s Ramiz Brahimaj gave the Madison Square Garden crowd some local bragging rights when he dropped Mickey Gall in less than three minutes. It was his first fight at home and his first victory in over two years; a true cause for celebration.1731845761444.png

Performance Of The Night: Jon Jones

What is there left to even say at this point about Jon Jones? He was already the G.O.A.T. of two divisions, and the most accomplished mixed martial artist of all time. His surgical dominance of Stipe Miocic—the greatest heavyweight of all time—answered all questions, silenced any doubters (assuming there were any) and, regardless of what comes next, secured his legacy in combat sports for all of time.

I entered my main card plays and apparently never hit submit here, they were a little better but couldn't save me from another bad night.

Awesome night as a JBJ fan outside of the Trump infomercial the whole thing was. Hope to see Bones fight again but not sure he has any reason to again.

It's good to take work but no wife and no kids seems like an advantage. Achilles is the main concern

Yes. Definitely stretch. I feel so fucking old saying that. I used to NEVER take stretching seriously when I was younger. Even playing soccer in college I’d just go through the motions. Now I have to stretch before any physical activity, otherwise I’ll be pulling some muscle I never knew I had.

I turn 50 on March 3rd this why I'm doing this. Last decade I've let time fly and feel the need to be active. Won't even discuss my social life but it's time. I'm likely the youngest 50 you'd ever meet.

Good for you. You definitely should while you can.
