Games of interest : (not plays !)

Tigers were smacked around because Justin Verlander gave his team no chance of winning by allowing 4 runs in the b1st inning and Tor had 9 runs after 3 innings !! The reason I like DET is Edwin Jackson the past 2 seasons he has 5 quality starts @ Rogers Centre ....

Over 8 runs Minnesota - and Twins ??

Bedard has had some issues vs Minny past few outings which occurred in 06 and 07 while Blackburn is solid especially at home still like the new look SEA lineup . Before todays under the series was 16-5 OVER past 2 games @ Minny ....

Lohse career 2.06 ERA vs Pitt and nice bounce back spot for STL after the blown save...

Rockies ML-
Arizona still will struggle IMO vs POWER RHPs and thats where Jiminez fits in .

LAA continues to produce low run efforts vs LHSP and Mosely has struggled vs OAK in his career . Think the situation is reversed now with Braden being about the equivalent of Cahill and Mosley is no Saunders there is just a 20 cent price drop..

I would have a tough time betting against toronto at home after seeing how live their bats were today. with that said, i will be on the under if I get reasonable juice on the 9.5;

like your thinking in the twinkie game. looking more at the over but i like the twins to bounce back at home. line is shadily low though, are books thinking seattle is legit this year??

definately a very nice spot for STL to bounce back. i'm pist at them and i think this is more of the cards teeing off on snell than lohse pitching well. i think stl should put up 5-6+ and the over might be worth a look?

col/ari : definately an interesting game. these teams hate each other and know each other well. great game yesterday between these two and i cashed an easy over. i think this game will obviously be much more low scoring but i don't really have an opinion on this one yet. i know that i've made a lot of money betting danny boy haren in my day. he is a "quick" starter and fades in the 2nd half....

the a's fucked me bad tonight but i might have to try em tomorrow again. WTF is up w/ these lines in LAA. do they think oakland is 100x improved or that angels downgraded? all i know is that i don't trust oak to score a fuckin run. they are just like san fran and san diego if ya ask me. even w/ holliday and giambi additions. only time i bet on these teams is when i think the starter can keep the other team to 1-3 runs and just hope and pray my team can scratch a couple across. wouldn't touch this total..

with the exception of a couple plays yesterday i was pretty damn on point. i'm not trying to be cocky by any means but i hope you at least take my thoughts into consideration.

Some may remember that I mentioned the best way to maximize profits especially early and late in the seasons is :

When you play UNDERDOGS take them on the ARL as well which is them laying -1.5 runs ....

Opening Day : Underdog WINS were
Dodgers win 4-1
Pirates win 6-4
Mariners 6-1
Orioles 10-5
Rangers 9-1

So all 5 dogs who won SU covered the ARL !!

Your not worried about the bullpen in STL?
Motte came up as a catcher and I dont know if has developed that short memory thats needed to be a closer.
He could be having deja vu and the sweats on the mound again. he looked real bad out there.
Im worried he blows another one because Tony wants to see what he's made of.

Jimbo-

I take everything I read into consideration and we essentially had the same plays anyway yesterday to boot......

You ask about whatlinesmakers think of certain teams well beyond what is public perception of teams entering 2009 which a few minutes ESPN can give us an idea of , would say looking at SEASON o/u is a great indication of expectations the season.....

Random thoughts.

It's in the 40's in US Cellular field. Yeah, it's opening day, but I'm not sure if these guys are used to this weather after coming back from warm ST. Buehrle's pace should catch KC young bats off guard in the cold and meche is usually solid when healthy.. but 7.5? That's tough... If buehrle hits stride, it's very conceivable, but that's difficult to assume.. Need some sportsnut deep stats here and a closer look.

kazmir in this spot would have made me hit the rays hard... Shields has the propensity to give up a couple long balls toward the 4th/5th inning. The question in my mind is whether there will be men on base. Tough call. Becket with a great ST... gonna observe this one from the side unless we get a good ump to play a total.

I see absolutely no value in playing the under in SF, but would never play the over with Cy young jr. on the mound. Sandoval and Ishikawa look to provide some beef in the lineup, but it simply comes down to lincy versus brewer bats. Need to look deeper tomorrow morning.

i guess my question then is are people really buying into the oakland hype that i've heard? if so, i don't want to be one of the dumbasses losing bad bets to one of the best teams. i'm not even getting juicy odds? i'm gonna wait out these a's and see what they do but i would be fuckin surprised if they are even better than average.

Little worried but not so sure he goes right back to Motte . McClellan went 1.1 but just 14 pitches and Ryan Franklin had the day off . WOuld think those 2 guys get a shot before Motte again. Now with Motte 100% agree and I cant be negative on a fellow MAAC alum but it was the worst case situation as he had to protect a 1 run lead vs the heart of the order...maybe its 3 runs this time or maybe a closer is not needed ...

Would say probably people are buying into OAK at this point because they did get a lot of press and publicity about their retooling . I think SEA is better then OAK but I still dont think LAA is very good . Dont see why Giambi is hitting 3rd because he tends to start slow and had a terrible spring . Why not let Chavez hit in the 3 hole if you want a LH there or IMO put Nomar in the 3 hole ...

trueblue, i think you bring up a good point that buehrle's pace in early day games can really catch teams offguard. this game could be over in 2 hours. with the cold weather the ball isn't going anywhere. i would be surprised if there was a HR tomorrow. im a huge sox fan and they were really dominant pitching at the end of spring training. i'm liking chisox and under more and more.. hopefully i get some nice + odds on the under 7.5

i agree that the angels are going to regress heavily and im sure they will be massive public bets throughout the year. similiar to new orleans in the nba.

i'm pretty pist that the white sox are such big public bets usually. why do people think they are so good? i wish they could fly under the radar like minnesota.

since i like the under in the sox game it might be best to just stick with that. the side could be a tossup as much as i hate to admit it. KC might have a decent year??

lincecum hasn't pitched that well vs. milky and i don't think he'll be on tomorrow. certainly some value w/ the better team, you know, its not all about the starting pitcher. soup can is still pretty tight

Not sure we can talk these 2 weeks while we square off in fantasy ..lol..

KC total ? Does look so low they are basically saying play the UNDER imo . Buerhle was 8 vs Grienke which flew way over and 9.5 vs Hovechar which was a 4-0 WSox win....

Now KC added Jacobs another LHB and he had just a 677 OPS vs LHP in 08, Teahen and DeJesus are okay vs LHP but still LH while Gordon has really struggled vs LHP . That leaves Guillen but he tends to be a slow starter , Aviles and Butler who IMO were largely responsible for KCs improvement vs LHP because they mashed vs LHs but is Aviles the real deal and Olivio who is a solid run producer vs LHs, Plus newcomer Crisp who provides potential ....

The SF game saw that Lincecum had poor splits vs MILW but didnt investigate further ...so would pass on the under and lean over if anything ...

half asleep finish up tmrw...

When you get some time , would like to read your thoughts on the cubs/stros tomorrow.

love the tigers as well .. good luck manana nutcase.

ah, come one. We dont play each other till week 4. haha. But in all honesty I've learned to detach my fantasy interests to betting interests. It can be a string of illogical decisions to get attached to certain players. That being said, my team doesnt look to shabby :pillow:

I want to believe that the books are setting the CWS total so low to entice over betting on opening day, but I think it may be too early to let the line movement and juice dictate the result. Especially with a young KC team.. I really do believe 2 or 3 of their young guns will break out this year though... How could they not...no pressure..Not like they have competition at depth. If we get a good ump, this game could be done within 2 hours with buerhle throwing 5 pitches in 45seconds. :smiley_acbe: We'll see, as of now basically no one on KC can consistently hit .300

also, I haven't looked too much but I'm sure giants pen blows goat balls still.. Lincy better go 7 or 8 cuz no one is going to help him. If i can recall, many of his Wins last year, he had to go 8ip... Not easy to do against the brewers lineup, but then again they suck on the road... Should be a good learning experience at the least.

Day games :

Well the Wsox start shortly after I hit submit and damn do I want to play the under but do I want to guess on 20 MPH winds and a total that went from 7.5 to 8.5 runs which is gigantic ...thats like a 15% increase ..

Meche was real solid last spring outing and Buerhle was quite the mystery . Have starts scartched and rumors about arm issues but then when he finally got out there threw 6 quality innings . However then Don Cooper essentially calls him a fat ass by saying the guy needs to get an offseason training regime because he doesnt like to workout but is now the BIG 30 ...(6'2 frame 230 is large ..I am 6'2 have been that nearly that big in college and guess what my college coach did call me a fat ass and told me to start getting in better shape ....about 12 years later I was 6'2 175 ...lol)

Lean : (may at times be last second additions)

KC 1st to score prop about -130 ish I see WON... also RHE Under 26 ...1st 5 inn under 4.5 .....

Played :

No runs scored 1st inning Prop -140 (80) +$80
Under 4.5 runs 1st 5 inn (40)

Not sure on the side keep flipping but to be honest I like WSOX ML but Cooper's comments concern me about Buerhle . Which I think the game is a coin flip at best being very close to equal except for past success heavily favoring CHI ...

WSOX were 28-8 at home against their division , KC only 2-9 L11 meetings in CHI but were a solid 18-18 away in division...also 17-13 vs LH in division vs WSox 31-22...

No runs played because look at the top of the lineups ...KC is solid but LHB in the 2 and 3 hole and Guillen a slow starter clean up ...big key get Crisp out IMO ...while Chi is Wise , Getz , Quentin who is coming off wrist surgery and not sure how much power he should in spring ...

Out in SF we have Lincecum vs Suppan :
Suppan has been poor on the road with a 5 + ERA past few seasons but also really bad in day games the past 2 seasons while Lincecum was a beats in day games last year but did have a higher ERA at home by a wide margin ...

Weather will be poor ..

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/04/07/BA8016UEGD.DTL&feed=rss.bayareaTim Lincecum admitted Saturday that he has felt a bit out of rhythm this spring.

While a 3.78 spring ERA isn't bad, it definitely isn't of the norm for Lincecum. "I can't emphasize the rhythm thing enough," he said. "I can't find a consistent track of finding my rhythm. It's frustrating, but I feel like I have more time before the season starts." Lincecum has one minor league game left to figure things out. He might also fit in a few side sessions.

Now the cold weather if his velocity is on should certainly favor Lincecum ...

Played :
1st team to score SF -120 (80)

Lean : Over 4 runs SF team total & -1.5 SF(of course that means I like SF ML)

@ Boston :
Past history heavily favors Bost think TB is 11-40 L51 @ Boston , Shields is like 2-8 in 10 starts vs Boston , Boston has revenge because TB ended their season although Beckett did beat Shields ....

BOSTON _ When the Red Sox opened the 2008 season in Japan, ace Josh Beckett was not with the club.
The right-hander remained in Fort Myers at the time to rehab an injured back. He dealt with a few different injuries last summer and was never able to be his usual dominating self.
Beckett plans are reversing that negative trend in 2009.
That will start today at Fenway Park when he makes his first Opening Day start for the Red Sox, and fourth of his career. The three other came when he was a member of the Marlins from 2003 to 2005.
Beckett remained healthy during camp this spring and posted a 2-0 record with a 3.25 ERA in seven starts.
"He looked better than his numbers indicated," said Red Sox manager Terry Francona. "Some of his lines were not what he was looking for, but I thought he looked healthy and strong. The ball came out of his hand real well. He prepared really well to get ready for a long season. Today will be the first day of that."
The last Red Sox pitcher to start on Opening Day at Fenway Park was Pedro Martinez on April 1, 2002 against the Blue Jays.
Beckett faced the Rays twice in the ALCS last October and posted 1-0 mark with a 9.64 ERA, allowing 10 earned runs in 9 1/3 innings of work.
He finished the regular season 12-10 with a 4.03 ERA.

Francona likes what he sees from Beckett and a star player looking to bounce back IS never a bad thing IMO ....

Shields didnt face many major league hitters in ST and he was shelled his last outing vs Minny allowing 3 Hrs . Does it mean something ?? maybe, I like Shields alot but not sure he is the type huy who doesnt need a real ST to get ready for the season at this point in his career ....

Point is I have doubts he is ready .......

Looking @ Red Sox ML and +1.5 RL TB as sort of a popular play fade ...

Also cold weather for a DOME TEAM never hurts especially coming out of ST ...

By the time I finished the 1st Inn KC no score WON and Crisp got on but Buerhle escaped . Upon seeing that I said to myself watch Billy Butler leadoff with a HR ( mostly because I liked KC to score 1st and Buerhle had to labor in the 1st inning and Butler is IMO there best hitter vs LHP) , anyway Gordon the worst hitter vs LHP HRed...lol ..but at least I was only off a batter ...lol ...

Recap :
1st Inning NO score Wsox game -140 (80) +$80
1st to score SFG -120 (80)
1st 5 inn UNDER 4.5 -110 Wsox vs KC (40)

Leans:
KC 1st to score -130 winner
Under 26 RHE KC / WSox
SFG -1.5 RL (also ML but high priced)
Over 4 runs SFG -115
Over 7 runs -125 SF (weather ??)
Boston ML (major payback , cold weather , Shields , etc..)
TB +1.5 RL -only as a public fade see Zona and NYM 2 huge favs yesterday who won by 1 run the other was LAA which won by 3 ....

It looks lovely in the stadium, nice an sunny, blue skies, however theyve just shown some outside and they wrapped up like eskimos ,hats, mittens the lot.

GL With your plays fat ass :p

i agree that the angels are going to regress heavily and im sure they will be massive public bets throughout the year. similiar to new orleans in the nba.

not sure about that. if there is a time to fade the angels its now, not later in the year when they get their 3 top starters back. also i like the analogy of finding a name team that isn't as good as its reputation and fading them (n.o) but i believe scott had a lot to do with the hornets struggles this year. scoscia on the other hand is one of the best in baseball.

think scoscia is THE best but that is just my opinion. Agree that now is the time to get to these guys ( moseley in the #2 role ? ). A lot of people ( me included ) may have overestimated the loss of the bullpen guys ... shields to fuentes is still a pretty formidable setup/close situation.

Not doubt big Mike is the best manager in the AL and only wont say baseball because of the different approach in the NL .

The thing with LAA pen is KRod was consistent and while he didnt pitch great last year he still rarely blew a save . Fuentes has talent for sure but his inconsistency is the huge issue and huge variation I see . Fuentes can do what KRod has done as far as saves % but his inconsistency is a huge issue when he cant even keep the role in COL and has a crazy arm slot that makes repeating his delivery and mechanics an issue I think ....Shields stil very solid but not what he was but 85-90% of a stud is still pretty damn good . The main issue I have is Can Arrendondo repeat his lights out nature somewhat in the Shields spectrum. He was just so good last year he was automatic and while not true slippage anything less is techinically a minor step down ...Oliver ? Career year for a journey man ...wouldnt be the 1st or last LHP to be better in hi smid 30s then late 20s(dude is actually 38) but that was again one damn fine season but then again he wa nearly as solid in 07 with LAA and 06 with NYM.....their SP also keeps this guys somewhat fresh and less successful SP will hurt the pen in the long run ...what worries me most about LAA is offense and SP...the whole staff is breaking down and the next wave of SP prospects hasnt shown much and has huge shows to fill ...

Cubs @ Astros :

Dempster's 1st start after the big winter contract , does he press any ? Just a question for the sake of saying it outloud ...I kinda thought Cubs would win this series which was part of the reason I changed my mind and played CHI yesterday. So tmrw they have Lilly vs Moehler and while Lilly didnt look so good vs the Yankees , in the past he has done very well vs Houston and opposes Brian Moehler a guy tough to label IMO...

So looking back Wandy has been very good at home in his career( the typical youngster with extreme home-away splits ) but IMPRESSIVE when opposing CHI at home 4-1 team record 9runs 35.2 inn and 7 came in the 1st first 14 innings vs them...Dempster was solid vs Houston last year and alot of that IMO is the fact he is so good vs RHBs and that was alot of Houstons makeup and still is ..plus even back in the day he had 2 superb starts @ Enron and 2 poor ones so I guess you could say we will know real early what type of game he will have past history means anything ...

On the surface the under looked interesting but with Joyce behind the dish you have to err to the OVER side I think ...

Anyway, I am interested in Houston because this is now there best chance to win IMO otherwise a sweep is possible . Wandy has the excellent track record to go off and appears Wandy is throwing well . Although he faced only Double AA players last start he went 6 scoreless K'n 11 and allowed just 2 hits . That is exactly what a solid ML pitcher should do vs a AA lineup and mind you Houston lost the game 6-5 eventually ...a tidbit is Jim Joyce has been kind to HOME PUPS last 2 seasons as they are 9-2 in games he did when the line was +110 or less which looks to fit here before that though no relevant trend ....interesting is that Houston I believe has been a HOME PUP the last 11 meetings vs CHI in houston and the UNDER is 10-1 in those games with the lone over being a 9-0 dempster shutout which the stros pen pushed over which I recall because I had the over ..lol..( l3 , w4 , l3 straight is how the meetings have gone in houston in those 11 games...)

DeRosa loss vs LHP is where it should be most meaningful especially if Ramirez again somehow struggles vs LHP. Also Cubs bats were significantly weaker on the road in 2008 !

Leans : HOUSTON & OVER -- because of Joyce more then SP

With Jimbo and the Bucks. Looked at the spring training, team histories and Suppan last year at the beginning of the year. He looked very good and the plus 51 cents looks insane. Will see but Tim is another pitcher that used his arm way too much last year. No interest in the various guesses in Boston but think the Bucks an excellent option here.

4PM: (plus what I listed already)

SF and RSox Parlay (80 pays 130)
Over 7-130 SF (60)
Over 3.5 -120 1st 5 inn (40)
Over 4 SF runs TT (lean)
TB +1.5 RL -145 (40) sort of hedge / fade play
Under 8.5 Boston (lean)

phone kept ringing ...:36_11_6::cheers:GL

Its a tricky game for certain and cant argue against taking such ++ money . Suppan has been terrible in 2 of 3 Aprils and I couldnt decided what to make it . He has struggled miserably in day starts and on the road so just hoping I am right ...certainly nothing strong or that I would argue with you about ...:cheers:GL bro

SF was was 57-53 vs RHP , 23-32 as dogs , while SF was 30-17 as CHALK and 57-61 vs RHP......

MILW crushed LHs and SF struggled vs them...33-19 as opposes to 15-29 ...

Night games of interest : back later !

Tigers :

nationals :

Houston : ( see above reply)

Mariners: -- I did say twins last night but after reading what VegasKyle said I think he is totally correct . If we believe SEA is truly under the radar and I think that was the best Season wins play (OVER ) then the time to bet them is NOW. Bedard can be every good as a King Felix on a given day but his career numbers vs Minny suggest otherwise . Still he has something to prove and that is key. I think Minny is solid but so blue collar the have little room for error and Morneau may not be 100% .

Cards 1st 5inn / ML :

Colorado :

OAK:

Totals ? Thinking we see a low scoring day and thought about the UNDER 104 RUNS but passed just felt like a pure guess at the time....

With that said I like Overs @ Houston , @ Minny , @ Oak in that order and maybe UNDER @ Toronto.....

Congrats to WSOx backers and there 4-2 win ! Amazing how Farnsworth is just the same meatball every time he has to pitch in a key situation . Thome 3 run jack in the b8th ! I already said that giving him a 2 yr deal for about 8 tp 9 million was the worst deal of the offseason because he should make about 2 million per in this enviroment at best . Another manager mistake dubbing Farnsworth the setu guy over Cruz . These guys never learn.....

Sad part is I would have went 6 for 6 if I played every lean I had in that game . Went 2-0 so thats cool but passedon KC 1st score , 1st 5 inn , WSOX full game and under full game ....at least I know I am not totally clueless...

Good hit Jimbo if you rolled with it ....be back before 7..

Atl @ Phi : Could be another slow start for phils. I bet em in the opener because looking at the series i thought that was a game they needed. im a bit worried about moyer here and i think atlanta is a team that will be a moneymaker this year. im liking atlanta here and im not sure what people think about him but i think jair jurrjens is underrated because not many people know about him but he's a stud imo. probably a pretty close game and o/u might be tight but this line begs for philly money imo. philly better worry because javy vazquez vs. blanton is no picnic either.

Was @ Fla : Just looking at the line and knowing the basics of this game i have natties on a few parlays. i've dug a little deeper and im pretty happy with my position. definately think +1.5 is money but i don't wanna pay juice and i went with the +135 value. like it even more if these home teams win in the afternoon.

Chc @ Hou : I think dempy pitches pretty well in this one. he might only go about 5 innings however and i have a bad feeling about cubs bullpen today. i'm thinking maybe cubs 1st 5 and possibly under, but im thinking 2-2 or 3-2 early on. when the pens come in the game could shoot over the total and houston takes the W.

lad @ Sd : prepare for snoozefest. pretty enticing odds on dodgy here; i'll bite and parlay it with the under.

nba : haven't done too much research but here is what im "guessing"

phi @ cha : kitties and under?

atl @ tor : i got on the over when it was 197 at bodog and it was 198.5 at pinnacle at the same time. total is shaded kinda high for these teams and i just think its a shootout somehow.

no @ mia : i can't even try because when i bet on or against these teams i lose.

por @ mem : i've been riding the portland train for a while but this line is a little zesty and laying this many points on the road when it is a pretty large public bet will lose you money over time.

ny @ chi aka SN vs. jimbo anyway, bulls are gonna crush. i just bet on the over though. both teams have been excellent under teams lately and it has led this to become a pretty heavily under bet. when i think about these teams this year i just think chaos and i think this could go over even if they shoot 45%. bulls get to 115-120 pretty easy here and im hoping the knicks can put up 100...

sas @ okc : spurler and underooski 80-70

orl @ hou : i always find myself betting on the rocks even though i think they kinda suck. i always find myself betting against the magic thinking their is some nice juicy value even though i know they are the fucking shit (i usually lose). i just sucker myself into betting the rocks even though i think orlando should clean their clocks.
these are games i should just watch and enjoy instead of pulling my hair out.

min @ lac : clips as a public favorite, lord have mercy. ive pretty much ended my days of trying to bet on these ridiculous games that are pretty much a waste of time, effort, and money. the players involved are less interested than the people betting on it.

7 PM plays :
