The race for home court is pretty wild in the east.

Big game for Miami. Pistons don't have much to play for except to try to avoid facing Lebron in R1....

All 8 of the east teams are set. 7 of the 8 west teams are set. Houston or Utah will take the last spot.

Sacramento plays @ Houston on Wednesday. It'll be interesting if they sit Rondo, Cousins, and Darren Collison again. Utah plays @ the Lakers in Kobe's final game. You know they'll want to win that last one for Kobe so they'll at least play hard I think. If they both win what determines the tie breaker? Conference record? Head to head? Guess I'll go google it.

H2H and then Conference record and then division record if I remember correctly.

In the West, Dallas clinched a playoff berth with a win over the Jazz. That Utah loss plus a Houston win over the Timberwolves put the Rockets into the No. 8 seed with a magic number of one. To make the playoffs the Jazz now need the Rockets to lose their finale vs. the Kings, plus Utah needs to beat the Lakers.

Clips - Portland should be great series. Teams started a feud between them over exhibition game, with Stotts and Rivers getting in to heated discussion...

Dubs should be glad, if they get Houston over Utah, since it's very hard to play in Utah - much harder then in Houston and Utah plays more intense I believe...

Spurs get Dallas and I wonder if Dallas can do the same thing they did two seasons ago, the only team that managed to drag Spurs to 7 games series on their way to the title (Spurs title of course).

I don't know how is it a debate even, if it's better to play Cleveland or Toronto. Toronto last two seasons, failed to win in the first round, despite having HCA both times. Cleveland on the other hand... should be fully awaken come playoff time...

like clipps-6: this season team off a game vs warriors or spurs with a sandwich game before a rematch vs spurs or warriors are 0-5ATS (letdown+lookahead)
Away dogs off a 1 pt loss are 39%ATS since 2007 in regular season. why MEM would give 100% today when they have GS tomorrow and want to have the glory to be the team to prevent GS from beating the bulls record??

Well... because Clips couldn't care less about the game and actually can lose on purpose to get Memphis in the first round, instead of the Blazers (everyone wants to get Memphis I believe - but not sure they are right) - while GSW will play for win for sure...
Memphis prefers to face Clips and not Spurs or Dubs as well...

EVERYONE WAS talkin the same shit bout cle last yr and what did they do... wiped the floor with everyone in the east.... you want to avoid LEbum n cavs if u can there the clear fav east

The cavs were better defensely last year and had a better coach. Although the real coach is still on the team so who knows how much it'll matter.

^^^^^^ i agree but no team in the East has gotten that much better where u go i rather play Cle then X..... i think bos is still a big time player away.... Tor i think is great reg season team but thats it........ Atl char etc nope... maybe miami the only team that teams are scared of ....

The raptors opened at -6 at home vs the sixers and now are up to -10?

Why would Lowry/Derozen play?

I dont think many teams are actually intimidated by the cavs... not to mention id much rather take my chances of getting a win OTR in Cleveland over Toronto

I'm shocked how little respect you got for Cavs. I would like nothing more than to be mistaken, but Cleveland has 90% to be in the Finals. I wouldn't give more than 55% for the Raptors to get out of the first round...

Finally!!!

Randy Wittman will be fired by the Wizards, according to Brian Windhorst of ESPN.

While the Wizards suffered a myriad of injuries, the team fell short of expectations and Windhorst says that will likely cost Wittman his job. "I mean, look, Randy's probably 99 percent certain he's going to be fired on Thursday morning," Windhorst said. "There were people who legitimately made the case that the Wizards would have finished with the No. 2 record in the East this year and that they had all of the weapons required to go to the Eastern finals and make a run." We'll keep an eye on the situation, but it sounds like the Wizards will be in the market for a new head coach in the near future.

I don't like it when teams fire coaches, but this was long due...

I hope Scott is next in line...

One thing that I don't get is that coaches like Rambis, Scott, Wittman, Casey are head coaches, when Hollins, JVG, Blatt, Monty Williams, and so many other coaches (even Marc Jackson) are available...

I'm shocked how little respect you got for Cavs.

Im not shocked that you're shocked. I respect Lebron like every other person walking planet earth. I do not respect the cavs. Too many wild cards for my liking. Lebron has to carry them.

The Pistons celebrated pretty aggressively for clinching a playoff birth. Rightfully so for the turnaround the past 2 years but I wonder if that affects them tonight.

The Pistons celebrated pretty aggressively for clinching a playoff birth. Rightfully so for the turnaround the past 2 years but I wonder if that affects them tonight.

I would not be surprised. They are so up and down when it comes to that.

AUBURN HILLS -- Before the Detroit Pistons can focus on their playoff opener this weekend there are two regular-season games to play.

Marcus Morris cracked a smile when asked if it would be a challenge to replicate the focus of a playoff pursuit with a berth already clinched going into tonight's 7:30 home finale against the Miami Heat.

"Uh, I mean, you just play the game, play the game how you're supposed to," Morris said. "It's another day of basketball until we get to the playoffs. So be a perfectionist really. Go out and take care of business win or lose."

Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy said Monday that he is wary of his team's outlook tonight.

The Pistons (43-37) are tied with Indiana for the seventh-best record in the East with two games each remaining, though the Pacers have the tie-breaker.

The Heat are trying to secure home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs, which begin with games Saturday and Sunday, and beat the Pistons by 18 points last Tuesday in Miami.

"It'll be interesting to see the focus our guys have tomorrow, the focus and concentration they have, and if we're able to match that," Van Gundy said. "That'll be a challenge quite honestly."

The Pistons' regular-season finale is Wednesday at Cleveland in what could be a preview of a first-round series. Detroit will open the playoffs either Saturday or Sunday at either Cleveland or Toronto.

Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue told reporters Monday that he probably would rest players Wednesday if his team had the top seed in the East clinched. The Cavs clinched the top seed with a win Monday night over Atlanta.

Van Gundy also hinted the Pistons could alter their rotation Wednesday if they are out of contentinon for the seventh seed.

"I don't see myself resting guys completely under any circumstances and there's a good chance we'll just play our normal minutes and play to win," he said Monday, "but part of that will depend on the games and what happens tonight and tomorrow night."

<big>PISTONS NOTES
</big>

Calling the game: Van Gundy, an avid baseball fan, went to Saturday's Tigers-Yankees game and while there visited an old friend, ESPN Radio baseball play-by-play man Jon Sciambi. So analyst Craig Singleton stepped aside and let Van Gundy serve in his spot for an inning. "A lot of people were saying it's some of the best baseball analysis they've heard in a long, long time. You might want to get it. I think bottom of the third, top of the fourth. You might want to try to get a recording," Van Gundy said.

Thinking the game: Van Gundy has four Tigers season tickets. He went to Saturday's game with his son Michael, assistant coach Brendan Malone, and team psychologist Tom Perrin, the latter of whom has made regular visits from his home in Virginia during the season. With the Pistons in the playoffs, Perris is here working on "a little bit of everything with our team and giving us things to think about and things like that."

Sloppy return: The Pistons practiced Monday after two days off and the rhythm wasn't quite the same, though the energy was noticeably elevated, Van Gundy and players said. "We had some turnovers, some fouls, but that's normal," Morris said.

Pursuit of 73: The Golden State Warriors have tied the Chicago Bulls' record of 72 wins. At 72-9, the Warriors could set the record for most regular-season wins if they beat Memphis in their Wednesday finale. Van Gundy said he thinks the push for the record has benefited the Warriors. "I think they are focused on the long-term goal but that doesn't mean you can't do things," he said. "To me, I think it's been good for them. When you're having a year like that, trying to find things to play for in the second half of the year is hard, something that focuses you and everything else. And that's given them a reason to continue to play and everything else."

The Pistons should want to face Lebron and the cavs for some experience. Oh wait experience doesn't matter nevermind

Looking ahead to Wednesday, the Jazz should know if they're eliminated by the time they tipoff vs Kobe and the Lakers... Very interesting

Well if Indiana wins vs the Knicks.... The Pistons most likely lose whatever focus they have and rest starters.

I already locked in heat ML +115.

Well... because Clips couldn't care less about the game and actually can lose on purpose to get Memphis in the first round, instead of the Blazers (everyone wants to get Memphis I believe - but not sure they are right) - while GSW will play for win for sure...
Memphis prefers to face Clips and not Spurs or Dubs as well...

I can see from the standings that the Grizzlies move into a tie (record-wise) with the Trailblazers, if the Grizzlies beat the Clippers, but then the Grizzlies have little hope of beating the Warriors tomorrow while the Trailblazers would likely beat the Nuggets to move a game ahead. (Which I assume the Trailblazers would want to do, preferring to play the Clippers in the first round rather than the Thunder.)

But I would be interested to see what Doc would do, if he really wanted to lose this game. Maybe sit all the players he sat against the Jazz, as well as Crawford? The most important goal for Doc right now, might be getting Blake incorporated back into the Clippers offense..

They would need the next two days to go perfectly, and that's asking for a lot given the hardship of this Grizzlies season.
Still, coach Dave Joerger and his players sounded as undeterred as ever when talking about their final regular-season goal. Memphis boarded a flight Monday afternoon and headed to the West Coast for its final two regular-season games, beginning Tuesday night against the Los Angeles Clippers.
If the Griz have their way, they will see the Clippers in the first round of the playoffs, too.
<iframe frameborder="0" scrolling="no" width="100%" src="about<strong></strong>:blank" height="184" style="margin: 0px auto; padding: 0px; border-width: 0px; vertical-align: baseline; width: 355px; display: block !important;"></iframe>"We're trying to get five. We want to play the Clippers," Joerger said Monday, referring to the fifth seed and a matchup with the fourth-seeded Clippers. "If not, we go play whoever they tell us we've got to play."
The math is simple.
Memphis (42-38) sits in sixth place, a half-game behind the fifth-seeded Portland Trail Blazers (43-38). The Griz must win their final two games, including the season finale against the 72-9 Golden State Warriors on Wednesday, and hope the Blazers lose their last game at home against the Denver Nuggets.
That scenario would put the Griz at 44 wins, one more than the Blazers. Portland owns the tie-breaker with a better conference record in the event it ends up with the same record as Memphis.
"We've been battling with (the Clippers) for years. We've got a rivalry going on with them," Griz forward Zach Randolph said. "It's been good competition and good games. We'd definitely like to see them in the first round."
The matchup would seem to be a long shot for one big-time reason: The Warriors are playing for the chance to earn their 73rd victory and break the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls record for wins in a season.

Another harsh reality is that the Griz could finish seventh or eighth depending on whether they lose their final two games. Dallas (41-39) is just one game behind Memphis in seventh. Utah (40-40) is two games back in eighth.
The Griz don't own the tie-breaker edge against any of those teams because those squads each won the regular-season series.
"We're still playing to win. That's what we said before the last game (last Saturday against Golden State). Let's get on the court and see what the outcome is going to be," Griz swingman Vince Carter said. "Guys have a lot of pride here. We have veteran guys who have been around for a long time and understand the process. I don't expect one player to lay down. The great thing about it is seeing our young guys follow suit."
The Clippers intend to play at full strength against the Grizzlies and rest key players during their regular-season finale at Phoenix, according to media who cover the team.
While Joerger expressed concern about Tony Allen's hamstring injury, he said no other veteran is a candidate for rest.
<iframe frameborder="0" scrolling="no" width="100%" src="about<strong></strong>:blank" height="184" style="margin: 0px auto; padding: 0px; border-width: 0px; vertical-align: baseline; width: 355px; display: block !important;"></iframe><iframe class="ym-ad-choices" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" width="100%" height="16" src="about<strong></strong>:blank" style="margin: 0px auto; padding: 0px; border-width: 0px; vertical-align: baseline; width: 355px; display: block; background-color: transparent;"></iframe>
"Guys are going out and giving everything they have," Joerger said. "I don't see a way your seed is cemented after Tuesday night's game going into Wednesday. These are the fun games to play for veteran guys. Every game has a playoff-like atmosphere."
That means the Griz will have that famous chant in their heads: "Beat L.A.!"
"We're going there to compete and try to win these last two games," Randolph said. "That's how we're made up. We're fighting hard. It's great to be where we're at with all of the adversity we've been through."
Tip-in: The Griz signed guard Bryce Cotton for the rest of this regular season, meaning he will be available for the final two games against the Clippers and Warriors. Cotton will not be on the Grizzlies' playoff roster because the Griz will lose hardship exceptions once the regular season ends.

Even though the odds of the grizz moving up are slim they still have motivation tonight. Looks like the clippers will be playing their normal rotation so they'll be looking to continue to get better. Not going against the clippers anymore. They're playing too well.

The Grizzlies should be totally motivated. It would be semi-legendary if they were to fly in, beat the Clippers, then back-to-back beat the Warriors out of their 73rd win. But the reason it would be semi-legendary is that it's pretty close to impossible...

Actually, if the press rubs it in the Clippers' faces that the Grizzlies are seeking the Clippers out as playoff opponents, I would expect a fired-up Clippers team tonight...

I also am jumping on Miami ml for 2 u....Miami is playing for something and Pistons have made it very clear they need to rest.

Serge Ibaka - F/C - Thunder

Serge Ibaka (rest) will not suit up for Tuesday's game against the Spurs.

The Thunder have locked up the No. 3 seed out West, so it's not all that surprising to see Billy Donovan rest his studs in what is essentially a meaningless game for OKC. Enes Kanter should draw the start tonight sans Ibaka, and he'll make for an excellent DFS target tonight as he figures to be incredibly busy on the offensive end with Kevin Durant (rest) and Russell Westbrook (rest) also unavailable.
Thinking OKC tonight.

Last home game of the regular season for SA off 3 losses, can somewhat understand given Pop's approach to games,

but given the issues with SA's offense of late I'm pretty sure they would want to correct things heading into the playoffs.

High probability the Spurs rest all the starters tomorrow so tonight would have to be the night, they need to give the fans something.

The irony in all of this is that Memphis wants to face the Clippers in the first round as well. (I know you mentioned it yourself, just found it pretty interesting that both teams want to face each other) Will seemingly work perfectly for both teams' objective if Memphis beats the Clippers.
