like the over in Denver, anyone else on board. I think that will be an very entertaining game

Seems like the right theme. Early lean to Lakers first quarter. Philadelphia 4-11 away in first quarter. Laakers traditional good first quarter team and the coach has been saying get a big lead fast so we can rest Kobe plus only game Philadelphia has a shot at in their last 4 road games is Suns on Wednesday.

Lakers first quarter should be a bet no doubt.
Where did you get the number Sixers 4 - 11 away in first quarter?
I have it as 3 - 12.

Strong leans to Denver and the Hawks.

I honestly don't think if Denver will win, but I do think that they have around 60% to do so.
Furthermore, Clippers start tonight 4 games in 5 nights, playing B2B against Denver and GSW on the road, day's rest and then Lakers and GSW at home.
If they win all four, they no doubt will earn my respect, but I think they won't win more than 2 games ATS and probably SU as well.

As for Hawks, just think that Hornets rated a bit too highly here. Hawks match up really well against the Hornets, but more talented and deeper.
The fact that they are 6 - 1 B2B this season, only adds to the confidence, but still thinking of all plays so far.

Leaning towards Dallas. Something really bad there. Players and coach talk about indifference and bad chemistry, but this is a decent team and if they lose against the poor and injured Wizards, when will they win?!
Usually trying to avoid bad chemistry teams, but not sure if I can resist backing them here.

Kobe: 'Best I've played in a while'
Dave McMenamin [ARCHIVE]

ESPNLosAngeles.com | December 31, 2012

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- Even though it's been a rocky start to the season for the 15-15 Los Angeles Lakers, the play of Kobe Bryant has been on point.

After shooting 50 percent or better from the field in each of the first four games to start the 2012-13 campaign, Bryant has proved the increased accuracy wasn't a fluke as his team is more than a third of the way through the season and his field-goal percentage is still a lofty 47.8 percent -- the highest mark of his 17-season career.

Just how good is the 34-year-old Bryant, the league's leading scorer at 30.1 points per game (his highest scoring average since 2006-07) playing?

"This is probably the best I've played in a while," Bryant said after practice Monday. "I've had years the last few years where I've felt pretty good but we kept my minutes down so the numbers didn't look the same, but this year I feel pretty good."

The evidence is in the numbers. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the month of December Bryant just finished playing was historic for him, as he had never reached the averages of at least 33.79 or more points, 5.57 or more rebounds and 4.64 or more assists all at the same time for an entire month before in his career.

Along with Bryant's improved scoring and efficiency, he's playing 38.7 minutes per game, slightly up from the 38.5 minutes he played last season under Mike Brown and significantly higher than the 33.9 minutes per game he logged in his final season under Phil Jackson.

"I think it's just the minutes," Bryant said. "I'm playing more. And I'm also extremely healthy. I had a whole summer to really be healthy, to be in shape, to get stronger and I think that has a lot to do with it. Diet has a lot to do with it, too. Watching what I eat."

Bryant said he was playing on "one leg" in Jackson's farewell season in 2010-11 and the Hall of Fame coach tried to manage Bryant's health by cutting his minutes, something that led critics to declare Bryant's career was on the decline.

"I played OK considering I was on one leg, but the minutes were also down too so the numbers were down," Bryant said. "It was one of the things that kind of frustrated me. Everybody said I was on the decline but the reality is my minutes were just fewer. That's something I took to heart and wanted to come back this season improved."

New Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni said the best way to curtail Bryant's minutes will be for the Lakers to blow teams out so that Bryant won't be needed the whole game, like they did in Friday's 104-87 win over the Portland Trail Blazers.

"I would like to get it down by not playing him in the fourth quarter," D'Antoni said. "That's how we need to get it down. Where we have games where he can rest and then take days off and stuff like that. Because, in big games and stuff like that, he's the best player in the world. I have a hard time taking him out."

Following the Lakers' Christmas Day win over the New York Knicks, D'Antoni said he believed that Steve Nash could extend Bryant's career another "five or six years."

"He's playing 40 minutes right now and going as good as he's ever gone so there shouldn't be a limit and that's on him a little bit where he can mentally prepare himself every day," D'Antoni said Monday when asked about his previous comment. "I don't know if that runs out or if he wants to keep on going. That's on him."

Has Bryant's resurgent season got him thinking about playing past the "two or three years" he said he had left in him at the start of training camp?

"No, not really," Bryant said with a smile.

There have been two major factors that have contributed to Bryant's success as he's crept up in years: advancements in sports science, such as the innovative procedures he underwent in Germany on his knee and ankle and also, sticking to a strict diet.

"I think sports medicine is a big one," said D'Antoni, lumping in what it's done for Bryant's fellow 17-year veteran Nash in his answer. "How they do nutrition and how they take care of their bodies and you know, everybody loves to play but you don't like it when you're hurt all the time and they take care of their bodies in a way that the game is fun for them so they can play a long time."

Said Bryant: "There aren't really any supplements that I'm taking from that perspective. What I've done really is just train really hard and watch my diet. I think that's the thing that catches guys most. They don't do self assessing. They feel like they can go out there and do some of the things that they did when they were younger and eat some of the things that they've been (eating) and not accept the fact that what you put in has an impact. I've been able to be honest with myself and have had to cut down on a lot of things and eat very healthy. It sucks, but it's worth it."

As for what's in his diet, Bryant said he has cut out all junk food like his favorites of sugar cookies and Sour Patch Kids and eats lean meats, fish and vegetables. That also meant saying goodbye to the pregame meal he ate before scoring 81 points against the Toronto Raptors: pepperoni pizza and grape soda.

"This summer I got very, very serious about it," Bryant said, crediting his Olympic experience.

D'Antoni is enjoying his steady diet of having Bryant on his team, rather than as an opponent.

"He's played awful good, so it's a high level we're talking about but he's playing phenomenal," D'Antoni said. "You watch him from Phoenix and New York, you get one opinion which is good, but then you coach him and you start to appreciate what he goes through and how he gets himself ready every game. You got to really respect what he's doing."

like the Lakers 1q too - was looking at that. Lakers have the #1 home 1q offense so far this season. Sixers 1q road D is 24th and road O is 29th - good combo there.

3-12 is correct. Just recounted
Only negatives are Philadelphia on good rest
Something of a revenge game
Lakers MAJOR LOOKAHEAD
Still think it wins

Why
Portand this year in first game of a b-b has an over under record of 1-4
The one game that went over did it in OT
Portland plays Toronto tomorrow. Their record with Toronto is posted above.
Think Knicks are looking at Thursday with Spurs
Not seeing too much with refs

Just looking at the sixers schedule and they are gonna get crushed in Toronto on January 9th. Absolutely crushed.

like the over in Denver, anyone else on board. I think that will be an very entertaining game

From Mikado.... Take it fwiw

"Sean wright is high scoring ref, typically closes big gaps. Dont expect either team to stay up big if it happens"

Really like this guys posts

Tuesday

ATS: 72-54-4 (+19.8)
OU: 50-45-1 (+0.3)
ML dogs: 1-5 (-3.65)

Since the 2005 season, when the line is between -3.5 and +3.5, and a team is coming off a 10+ point loss, after they have played two good defensive games holding opponents to less than 90 in their last 2, teams are 22-8 SU (+4.1 ppg) and 21-8 ATS.

The Clippers just had two games against the Jazz, the first one in Utah and the second one at home. After teams play the same opponent on the road, then at home, and then they have to travel to play away, they are 8-28 SU (-6.1 ppg) and 12-23 ATS. The Clippers are on a great winning streak, but all streaks have to end (as the Bobcats made us aware of yesterday).

The Nuggets are coming off a road loss to the Grizzlies in which their floor efficiency was only 42.7%, down almost 10% for the season, and they still managed to hang in for most of the game. I look for them to rebound nicely tonight (both figuratively and literally), where they have the second highest home floor efficiency in the league. The Nuggets are finally getting to play a few games at home this season. The Nuggets coming off a road trip where they won and then lost are 10-2 SU (+11.7 ppg) and 9-3 ATS. When they are playing their first game at home and they have at least one more home game, they are 24-7 SU (+10.2) in their last 31.

In the last matchup vs. the Nuggets, the Clippers bench scored a season best 42. Gallinari extended his poor play in this game, going 1-10 from the floor. The Nuggets shot a poor 3-13 from long range. Despite these numbers, the Nuggets still managed to shoot 50% from the floor, mostly thanks to scoring 62 points in the paint.

Denver has played the third hardest strength of schedule in the league so far this year, while the Clippers have had the third easiest. In their 17 game winning streak, only four of the teams that they have played have winning records.

The Clippers have a difficult stretch coming up, playing the Nuggets and then the Warriors, Lakers, and Warriors again. The next three are all important divisional games for the Clippers. While I don't think they are the type of team to look ahead, this game is probably the least important of the next four they will play.

Denver has a rebounding edge, points in the paint edge, and free throws attempted per game edge (interestingly, this is a more important category to win in basketball than free throws made per game...) Teams winning these three categories this year are 111-33 SU (+8.6 ppg) and 96-44 ATS.

Home teams on New Years day are 15-2 SU (+13.2 ppg) in the last two years. I’m hoping the Nuggets usher in 2013 with a big win!!

Nuggets PK x2

What to do with this Mavericks team? They are just not good right now, and neither are the Wizards, but one thing to be given to the Wizards is that they have a lot of heart right now. It seems to me that the Mavs are getting favoritism points on these lines based purely on their name and history.

With at least a day of rest, following a game where their assist to turnover ratio was at least two, the Mavericks are 5-5 SU (-1.7 ppg) and 0-10 ATS. As a road favorite, the Mavericks are 3-7 SU (-3.6 ppg) in their last 10 and 2-8 ATS. After a game where they scored 10 points or less than expected, the Mavericks are 4-4 SU (-1.1) and 2-6 ATS.

The Wizards at home when their next game is on the road are 5-6 SU (+1.5) and 8-2 ATS. As a home dog in their last 7, the Wizards are 5-1-1 ATS.

There is also a trend that takes into account average points scored by opponents and teams, and adds in a factor to add weight to them, and when teams give up less than 86 points to their previous opponent, they are 19-5 SU (+5 ppg) this season. This trend holds true over time going 227-112 (+4.9 ppg) since the 2005 season, and is active on the Wizards tonight.

In their last 11 meetings, the Mavericks are 7-4 SU (+0.8 ppg) and 3-8 ATS. The Mavericks have the Heat on deck tomorrow, and most likely have prepared a bit more for that game than this one.

Wizards +4.5

Although I am not going to play them, my research is also indicating:
Philly
Sac
Atlanta

Cheers, and may the New Year be sweet to you and yours

Good luck...

Original plan was to wait and start the betting vs Clippers tomorrow but
A huge majority of posters I consider high quality are on Denver today.
Went over to Clipper blog and they were expecting to lose in the next 3 games but thought they matched up well with Denver.
Possible. In the last game unprepared Denver lost but won 3 of the 4 quarters. Tend to think the two teams have equal bench strength. tend to think Paul is much better than either Denver point guard. Think the Denver players are just stronger and that the disadvantage of 4 in 6 at altitude at Denver is too much for a team that will be playing its 10th game without 2 days off. Probably betting against every game in the next 3.

NBA teams winners of 11 straight or more, not favored by 3.5 or more are 11-35 against the spread. 0-10 against the spread against teams off of a loss.

Denver 17-3 in last 20 at home.

Played over 197 in Detroit this morning and its down to 195.5 at my book... What am I missing, sac been running lately and recent matchups in Detroit has gone over. I think it's close but one should hit over 100, other high 90's me thinks

Also played Denver at pk.

I'm really liking the hornets and the nuggets....

New Orleans has played the toughest schedule in the entire league. Eric Gordon making his home debut. Hawks playing 4th game in 5 nights in 4 different cities.

Detroit the best team in the league first half at home and Kings are the worst first half team in the league playing on the road (ATS wise)
Portland tied to the Kings for that dubious title btw...

Denver starting point guard Ty Lawson will not play against the Clippers due to tightness in his left Achilles tendon. Lawson has been battling the tightness for the past week and has experienced trouble jumping. Veteran Andre Miller will get the start in place of Lawson and rookie Evan Fournier will likely get minutes as the backup, although Andre Iguodala and Danilo Gallinari will probably see time at the point. Nuggets coach George Karl said he might use a secret weapon, which could mean time for Jordan Hamilton at the point.
The Clippers’ 17-game winning streak is the second time coach Vinny Del ***** has experienced it. The first time was as a player with the San Antonio Spurs in 1995-96, whose streak ended at 17. “I think we won 24 of 25,” he said. “That was then, this is now. Different team, different time. The streak is great, we want to keep winning basketball games, but we have to find ways to get better and stay consistent.”
Lamar Odom will play despite being hampered by pain in both ankles. “Both ankles are bothering him but the right one that he sprained a ligament in his foot is giving him some issues,” Del ***** said. “It didn’t get worse the other day, which was good, but he was in some pain.”
Karl said he is impressed with the way the Clippers play hard throughout the game. “They play more intense minutes than any other team in the NBA,” he said. “Very few teams can play 48 minutes of aggressive, intense, focused basketball. If you play 40 minutes usually you win most games. They’re playing the game, more possessions, with intensity and focus and anger than any team in the NBA right now.”

Such a great game in Denver. Nuggets are playing just as physical as the clippers like to play. Hope they can play like this for 4q. I have my doubts

Not always playing at home on Tuesday after a loss playing the team with the best record in NBA
