Need more Mario.

Though it was good to see the end to end one in the Cup against the North Stars, that was a hell of a goal.

funny that there as some repeats.

my personal fave was Afinigenov, full speed and incredible skill

that and Bure

Yeah, that Afinigenov one is nuts and I like the Bure one as well. I actually think they gave the Ovechkin goal more play than it deserved. Great goal, but I think 'greatest' goals should come in big games when they mean more.

Ive personally never been that impressed with it, great skill and all but he fell and the goalie made a bad play on it...

Speaking of which, this one gets me every time.

remember that crowd... electric, just sense it as soon as he touched the puck too'an_horse'

Yeah, I remember the moment really well and it was just one of those things, like you said, like even Gary Thorne seemed to get in the booth, it was coming. And as soon as it went in it was like this giant wave of emotion, he cried, the fans cried, it's tough to explain I suppose. But given everything that he'd been through and everything he'd done for that team, it still chokes me up actually.

Joe's a softie.

Privileged generation of great hockey players through the past we've got to see... shame we'll never know how close he's come if he didnt have the health issues... cry baby

Man, is that ever the truth. As you know, I live in L.A., and what was really interesting when Gretzky was here wasn't the year or two they were good, but the years when the Kings weren't.

Because you could get pretty good tickets and you'd see what you couldn't on TV. He'd put these perfect passes into perfect places, really do things you almost couldn't believe, but nothing would come of 'em because of who he was playing with. So nothing would make the highlights other than the goals and you'd never know what you missed unless you happened to go one night.

And that was the thing, he did it every night.

Of course, I think we all know that little f**ker was no Mario.

As the highlights from that night vs. the Devils prove.

=)

Oh, I remember the '87 Canada Cup. Actually I think it was the first time I ever really started to pay attention to/root for international hockey. (Yes, yes, 1980, 1980, blah, blah, blah).

But of course I was rooting really for Mario. That goal, in some ways, may have been the best of his career.

Although, how about that play he made in the 2002 Olympic game, too. Ya gotta love it.

It's gotta be true what they say about the truly great players, the game just moves in super slo mo for them. Just one day in the shoes to experience it would be something else

one of the best hockey days of my life... hammered at 10 AM at the bar, walking down Yonge St to the downtown core with everybody, playing hockey in the street with garbage cans for pads, the streets flooded with people. Shut down the city for the whole night... good times
