Toronto Blue Jays vs. Baltimore Orioles
Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at 7:05 p.m. ET at Camden Yards in Baltimore

Who Starts for Toronto?

Jose Berrios starts for Toronto tonight.

By a significant margin, Berrios is his team's most profitable pitcher.

On the season, he's yielding +9.6 units.

He's particularly profitable to back when he's the favored pitcher.

In games where Toronto is favored and he starts, he is yielding +8.6 units.

Division rivals not named the Yankees have been his consistent victims.

So far, Toronto is 5-1, yielding +4.6 units, in games against AL East opponents in which he starts.

Berrios vs. Baltimore Batters

Tonight, Berrios looks especially reliable because of his superb history in Baltimore.

For his career, Berrios is 3-0 with a 2.45 ERA in Camden Yards.

Evidently, Camden Yards is a venue where a clear fly ball-inducing pitcher like Berrios can thrive.

The O's are also vastly worse against fly ball pitchers than ground ball-inducing ones.

Who Starts for Baltimore?

Baltimore starts Dean Kremer tonight.

Before thriving against lowly Pittsburgh, Kremer had allowed 13 earned runs in his previous three games, totaling 16 innings.

Those three opponents were the Reds, the slumping Yankees, and Rays.

Kremer vs. Blue Jay Batters

Toronto batters are reliable tonight because they match up well against Kremer given the pitches that he throws

Kremer's two favorite pitches by far are his fastball and cutter.

They make up three quarters of his arsenal.

The Blue Jays rank eighth in slugging against these pitches from righties.

Look out, among others, for Bo Bichette.

Bichette has collected at least one hit in six straight games.

During this six-game span, he has three multi-hit games.

Cleveland Guardians vs. Detroit Tigers
Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at 7:10 p.m. ET at Comerica Park in Detroit

Who Starts for Cleveland?

Cleveland starts Aaron Civale tonight,

Civale may seem worth going against given his high ERA.

But this season-long statistic is largely a product of his struggles against baseball's stronger lineups.

The Yankees, for example, amassed 10 earned runs against him in two starts, which totaled nine innings.

Minnesota, which likewise ranks in the upper half in runs per game, accrued six runs against him in 4.2 innings.

Civale vs. Tiger Batters

Since that bad start against Minnesota, though, Civale has thrived against division rivals, conceding zero earned runs in 6.1 innings to Detroit before yielding a sub-two FIP (like ERA but factors out fielding) against the Twins and Royals.

Tonight, Civale benefits from facing a division rival that is also baseball's most anemic offense in terms of runs per game.

Plus, Civale has a terrific history in Detroit's venue.

Team Form

Besides slugging well above-average against Detroit starter Drew Hutchison's favorite pitches, Cleveland benefits tonight from its superior form.

Whereas the Guardians have won three in a row, the Tigers have lost eight of their last 10 with all eight losses coming by multiple runs.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Colorado Rockies
Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at 8:40 p.m. ET at Coors Field in Denver

Who Starts for St. Louis?

Jose Quintana starts for the Cardinals tonight.

He has been thriving even against teams that match up superbly with him given his pitching arsenal and given the fact that he's a lefty.

In his last three starts, totaling 18.2 innings, he's allowed a combined total of one earned run.

Four starts ago, he pitched in Colorado, where he yielded a high ERA because he yielded an unfortunately high BABIP (batting average of balls in play).

His 3.11 FIP in that start reflects how well he actually performed.

Coors Field is a notoriously tough place to play, and the fact that Quintana just pitched there will help him adjust the location of his pitches more effectively in order to account for Denver's unique altitude.

Who Starts for Colorado?

Colorado starts Kyle Freeland tonight.

Freeland is a lefty who relies on a variety of pitches.

Cardinal batters merit optimism tonight because they rank ninth in slugging against his pitches from lefties.
