Baltimore Orioles vs. Detroit Tigers

Handicapper Analysis

There is good value with the underdog in this game.

Baltimore is starting Kyle Gibson today, who has a terrible track record in Detroit's venue: his career ERA is 5.64 in this venue.

While he did just do well against the Tigers, that start took place in Baltimore.

It is also generally difficult to thrive against the same lineup twice in a row.

On the other side, Joey Wentz starts for Detroit.

Baltimore ranks below-average against his pitches from lefties.

Plus, the Tigers have their top relievers fresh.

So, this is a good time to back the Tigers for a full-game play.

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Chicago White Sox

Handicapper Analysis

The total feels too low for this game.

White Sox starter Dylan Cease will suffer the most.

He throws a slider, fastball, and curveball, primarily.

But the Rays rank first in slugging .556 against these pitches from righties.

When they knock him out of the game, they get to face one of the worst bullpens, as measured by ERA.

On the other side, there's no chance that the White Sox get shut out in a third straight game.

They won't need to do too much for the "over" to hit.

But Rays' starter Shane McClanahan did yield a poor FIP (like ERA but factors out fielding) in his last start, which took place against the White Sox.

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Chicago White Sox

Handicapper Analysis

Chicago is mired in a slump, showing terrible team rhythm.

Currently, the White Sox have lost seven in a row.

They lost their last three games by three or more runs, and they lost their last two games by a combined score of 15-0.

Dylan Cease is not the guy to turn things around for them.

He is 0-1 with a 4.61 ERA in three career starts in Tampa Bay, where he'll face a Rays team that hits his pitches from righties massively better than Chicago's lineup hits Tampa Bay starter Shane McClanahan's pitches from lefties.

Plus, in terms of ERA, the Rays have a huge bullpen advantage.

Best Bet: Rays -1.5 at +118 with FanDuel

Kansas City Royals vs. Minnesota Twins

Handicapper Analysis

Washed-up Royals' starter Zack Greinke is struggling.

He's yielded an ERA of over 5.00 in each of his last three starts.

Part of the problem is his tendency to give up home runs, of which he has allowed five during this three-start rut.

Minnesota's Target Field is not the place for him to turn things around.

In his career, he is 1-7 with a 5.30 ERA in the Twins' venue.

Meanwhile, the outlook is positive for Twins' starter Tyler Mahle and is fastball-slider-split finger combo.

Kansas City ranks 26thin slugging against his pitches from righties.

Best Bet: Twins -1.5 at +104 with FanDuel

New York Yankees vs. Texas Rangers
Handicapper Analysis

Yankees' starter Gerrit Cole can't just keep shutting out opponents.

Today's the day his positive streak ends.

Texas will have him falling back down to Earth because it matches up well against his pitches.

Cole relies on a fastball-slider-curveball-change-up combo, and Texas ranks fourth in slugging against these pitches from righties.

Look out, for example, for Marcus Semien, who slugs .514 against him.

Robbie Grossman and Adolis Garcia slug .700 or higher when facing him.

On the other side, Texas benefits from starting a lefty.

The Yanks rank dead-last in slugging .309 against lefties.

Best Bet: Rangers +1.5 at -130 with FanDuel

Gibson struggling at detroit makes 0 sense to me, he has pitched there a bunch of times over the years and he has def had some bad starts. He has also had a 7 inning 1 run effort and a 8 inning 1 run effort. I have a hard time thinking the high career era is anything more than him pitching there a lot in his career and never being a consistently great pitcher. Maybe there is something bout detroit in general he doesn’t like but that park is about as pitcher friendly as they get, if he can dominant tigers at Camden yard it doesn’t make any sense he couldn’t do it here. All that being said gibson isn’t Exactky the kind of pitcher I’d bet on dominating a team in b2b starts, it not like he has great stuff. Im sure it was a fluke he struck out 11 last game, if that happens again tigers should just throw in the towel! That could be part the explanation to his career era in Detroit, pitching for twins all those years I assume he has faced the tigers in b2b starts before, I’d think most any big league lineup that gets to see this dude twice in a row is bound to have a little success in one of them!

Cole might be able to continue dominating teams, he has looked as good I’ve seen him since going to NY. It does seem unlikely yanks score much tho, Heaney capable of striking out 10+ against this lineup. Pretty good price to take the 1.5 runs in what should be a lower scoring game.
