Backe has a lot of value at +146. Of course I'm not betting against the Phillies because I'm too big of a fan, but I don't think its a bad spot for Houston because the Phillies typically suck in midweek day games.

Lilly has been awful, Reds are due for a W.

Rockies +175 is interesting. If I remember correctly the Rockies can handle Peavy, not sure if that applies to games held at PETCO.

White Sox at +100 with the better team and a hot pitcher who's returning to his hometwon. Definitely worth a look.

No opinion on the Detroit/Cleveland game.

Real quick probably interested in the Over @ Philly should be a beautiful day and small ballpark. Would lean towards Myers and the Phillies though...

Cards and under 9 ? Brew Crew still hasnt shown much vs RH SP..

Lilly definetly struggling but Reds struggle vs LHP and he was good in all but 1 start vs them last year. Volquez pretty good so far but he to give moe then 5 innings...check back proabbaly something like 1-9 in games he started away in his very young career..hate to back Cubs in a sweep spot vs a divisional rival but hard to pass up the matchups but again Lilly doesnt seem right...

Yankees home pup...

First thoughts would be Brewers and Kansas City. Almost certain to play Kansas as I think Garland who is 3-7 last 10 at home is an obvious fade and betting against the Brewers on a sweep in a day game seems unlucky. Did very nicely with the Cardinals last 2 although it would have been nicer except for a closer mistake and now its time to fade them or pass on the game. Money and umpire info will determine if i play the Brewers.

Good point about the sweep for STL a concern for me. Also I cant really get into MILW when they are like 3-5 or 3-6 when a RHP starts and those wins all by 1 run 4-3 , 5-4 and 3-2....

Not sure how to weigh Garland at home since this is his 1st year in LAA...

BOL

The only spot that caught my eye at first glance is Myers. I think Myers is getting better control of his pitches, and the Phillies should play tough.

I'm thinking PHI -1 -118 in the early game.

Mets are tempting actually. That Washington sweep of them that knocked them out of the playoffs is probably clear in their minds and what stops a sweep tomorrow I do not know. Possible problem might be the Phillie lookahead but that might not stop me.

Stros Backe not in ideal spot...terrible day stats plus much better at home

Cards Pujols power #'s something to monitor...left wrist was involved in a bang bang play at 1st base on Tuesday nite...very similar to wrist injury that hampered D Lee power #'s in 1st half of '07...just worth tracking

Good stuff IMGN about Pujols...thats really huge for them vs a LHP...

Just had a feeling that with a low scoring series and some so-so SP outside of Oswalt they monet might push this total down based on the names but Philly could a have a huge day with Rollins back in the lineup a few days and there plethra of LH bats....

Agree SN vs lh in particular...we'll have to see how it plays out..could be nothing to it. Lineups might have a different look tomm. in a few games with the nite/day scenario

Without having read any of this I like Astro's ( I skimmed and saw soem thing about Philly) The Phillies are 1-7 in Myers last 8 home starts. Backe isnt exactly great but I think the play might be worth the value

Agree

I am looking into the Mets more for all of the reasons you listed plus they are up 2-0 in the series at home. I think WAS is ready to get out of Queens and regroup for their next series.

First bet is in. Cleveland minus 1.5 and 2.5 on a cowardly 60-40%. 1.5 pays 160 while 2.5 255. So far this season Detroit has lost 4 road games. The scores were 0-11, 0-7, 6-12, and 0-5. Verlander has gotten 2 runs in support in his last 2 games. His opposition has gotten 20 in those 2 games. His 7.04 road era is scary though. Detroit has scored 30 runs in their last 3 games. I think they might sleep through today.

Blue Chip, its a lot like professional wrestling and poker. Weak is strong and 13 run wins are a door to disaster. Have changed my mind. Right now Cards are 4-1 vs NL Central. I think they intend to dominate. I do not think they will let Brewers get a win. My usual combo of ml, and various rl options. Brewers were swept 3 times last year on the road. See this as the first. Avoid public dogs.

Ha ha! I get the poker reference because I play often, but I haven't seen professional wrestling since 2000 so how is weak = strong in the WWE?

Hard to imagine that Washington is not interested in this game @ Shea. The problem in WASH is sort of a simple they arent playing well and alot of it falls on the offense. This team was 3-0 and has now lost 11 of 12 since gaining a 5-4 WIN on Sunday vs ATL. A team hitting well would have won that game on Sunday 11-4.

It seemed like the 1st day people thought it was laugable that Pelfrey was 160ish fav , then Maine was just ordinary and not worth -180 ( far ,far from the truth) , but after winning 2 games its okay to lay 160 on Nelson Figuerora? That seems strange to me. Especially since NYM led 2-0 in the 1st game but added 2 in each the 7th and 8th innins , then yesterday trailing 2-1 bottom 5 used a 3 run jack by Beltran to take over the game and win 5-2.

Without seeing the lineups I think I would lean WASH or pass. Lannan was good in STLand terrible vs ATL. The Mets usually have alot of LHB in there lineup which could be a plus for any LHP. Its real limited but his 5 road starts look much better then his 3 home starts.

Hard pressed to believe Nelson Figuerora isnt coming off the best moment of his life. To be out of baseball or the majors actually for so long and to come back and do what he did...sells newspapers...but he is still at best a very medicore pitcher with a below avg fastball for a RHP.

In StL I will stay away from a side as I dont like the fact STL got cheaper. I will probably play the UNDER 8.5 even though I much rather have the 9.

I noticed at some point that STL was very tough in day games and when they faced LHP usually found a wayto win a low scoring game.

Some trends - ( not a huge believer in trends but I also believe that everything works in patterns)

Home fav -100 to -125 3-1 UND this yr and 24-15 UND past 3
Home total 8 to 8.5 4-0 OVER this year and 39-20 UND past 3
on Thursdays 2-0 UNDER and 28-12 UNDER past 3

You can see the tremendous difference in his home away numbers. This year he has yet to allow a run at home in 2 starts.

If we dismiss Joel Piniero's return from the DL this weekend the Cards had allowed just 12 runs in 41 innings..2.63 ERA...

LaRussa is a wise man and has lineup adjusted so that the guy splaying bat 330 in day games 33/104 .317 and 33/118 vs LHP 280.

Milw 51/186 in day games and 274 but missing Kendall , kapler and Hall which have been 3 of the most productive bats in day games..

Kapler 11/25 4hr 11 rbi 440 avg
kendall 10/26 4 2bs 6rbi 385 avg
Hall 9 / 38 3 hrs 8 rbi 237 avg

The rest of the team had produced just 5 hrs and 28 rbi compared to the 7hrs and 25 rbi by the above trio.

Milw is hitting jsut 220 vs RHP and we saw Lohse splits since the beginning of 2007 at home. Todays lineup though 45/220 so far a 205 AVG. Only 3 Hrs and 24 RBIs . 18 BB to 43 Ks....and on the road they dip to 191 vs RHP...just think what happened when they saw Nelsom Figuerora....

Granted it will improve at some point but there hasnt been much improvement shown in this series outside of 2 runs in the 9th inning yesterday..

In Philly :

Both lineups short a few players...No Rollins , Ruiz , Victorino (DL) , Feliz , Wigginton , Pence...

Thats Backe career numbers in the day and on the road. Backe doesnt seem to be able to get past the 6th inning and there pen ERA is 4.71. Brocail has been real good and he got the call to close yesterday so that could make middle relief worse....

I just think Stros will struggle some vs tough RHP like Myers. He was struggling the 1st 2 starts and then said he would approaching his ames as a SP like he did a closer and just go all out rather then trying to save some...

Both games 1 run games so far and with Backe' s track record think -1.5 RL +130 is nice value...perhaps play the ML small and still looking at the over....:shake:

2:20 Thoughts :

If I play anything it will be Chicago. Cincy is 1-4 vs LHP and has scored 10 runs in the 5 games started by LHP . 3 vs Doug Davis , 3 vs Cole Hamels and 4 combined in the series @ Pitt where they saw Maholm , Gorzelanny and Duke plus some shit weather.

Cubs are hitting and Lee and Fukudome are leading the way with monster day splits so far. Only guys struggling are Pie and Ramirez. The Reds have there best hitter in a funk in Brandon Phillips.

Lilly hasn’t made it through the fifth inning yet, and he’s allowed five runs in each of his last two appearances, including a 7-1 loss to Philadelphia on Saturday.
“He didn’t have a good spring training and it’s carried over,” Piniella said. “He’s got to improve.”
The left-hander might find more success against Cincinnati. He was 1-1 with a 3.33 ERA in five starts against the Reds a year ago, striking out 33 while walking only five.
Lilly struck out eight or more in seven games last season, three against Cincinnati.
The Reds have scored a combined 16 runs in their last six games, and Brandon Phillips struggles have been a big reason why. He hasn’t had a hit in his last 10 at-bats, and his career against Lilly has been even worse—he’s 0-for-13.
After a dreadful 2-for-25 start to 2008, third baseman Edwin Encarnacion has started to come around. He’s 8-for-23 (.348) in his last six games, but is just 1-for-10 lifetime against Lilly

According to the splits for Cincy its worse then it appears vs LHP. They have a 216 avg but 1 Hr and 4 rbi plus 5 runs scored to date. Worse is the entire team is 25/116 but Phillips is 5/12 and slumping now. Als Paul Bako might not play and teh LH is a suprisingly 4/14.

Those are Vozquezs' splits for his young career on the road. Granted his home numbers are not much different but I think he won just once in 9 road starts and I mean his team. Clearly it was unfortunate he lost 1-0 after being pulled do to a rain dealy but imagine it was a nasty cold night. I say that because remember the guys who have a big edge in cold weather are the guys with the plus fastballs , just remember how tough Cueto was that day vs Zona. So I attribute alot of his success to that and lets face Pitt and Chicago vastily different lineups wouldnt you say?

So while Lilly has been horrible this an attempt by me to READ inbewteen the lines. If Lilly cannot pitch good here when will he turn it around ? I want to look a bit closer at his previous starts pitch by pitch before I decide. real simple though why would you want to back at basically EVEN MONEY a kid Volzquez who is basically 1 for 9 in his career in leading his teams to wins , while the reds are slumping and facing a LHP , the one negative is teh sweep factor but Reds arent hitting and while they could outpitch Chicago I dont see this being a coin flip game as IMO a clear edge is present by Chicago here....

be Back...

My apologies . Was rushing some and misprinted the Reds vs LHP. They only faced 2 LHP @ Pitt and managed 1 run total in those games.

So they are 1-3 vs LHP. Having scored 3,3,0,1 in 4 games.....

Brandon Phillips gets the day off in Cincy as Freel replaces him. While Bako does catch. Patterson is the odd man out today in the OF as Hopper gets someones spot when a LH starts. Only suprise in Chi is Johnson playing CF especially without even looking it up knowing the gap bewteen his production favors facing LHP. Soto day off after a night game for Blanco no suprise but drop in offensive prduction.

This is making the UNDER 9 attractive especially if the WIND truly is blowing slightily in today at about 10 MPH...so thinking Cubbies / Under 9..:shake:

Have played the Yankees ml and minus 1.5. Beckett at the site has a pitching average of 6.86. He did well at home vs the Yankees. See Wang. Yankees not supposed to be a dog. Moose is actually a good April pitcher. Vanover the home Ump 5-0 Yankees at home

Like it Tuck myself.

Played

Cubbies -120 {1.25}
Und 9 {.5}

Thought about -1.5 +160 but decide to pass since I think this will be a 1 run game even if it Reds win...

I liked the under as well, SN.
Traveling tonight + wind blowing in = quick and low-scoring game

I bought the 1st5 u5 for the same price as full game u9, which was -115 w/ my local. I don't want a 4-4 game to push my u9 bet, and I think this game could very well be a one-run game. Also, I can see the players coming out sluggish today and warming up as the game goes on.

GL SN, glad we agree on a low-scoring affair today.

SN, any thoughts on the balti total? I think guthrie finally pitches his game while he face floyd, a native of baltimore that has been pitching lights out.

Looking at it now for you I havent really done anything more then glance at the rest of the card. I tend to get to wrapped up into what my pending plays are doing which is a waste in baseball so there is no 2nd H bets.

Anyway I give you my thoughts shortly..:shake:

Well I am sure most of you guys have read the back and forth discussion bewteen myself and Vegas Kyle on our differing views of the White Sox lineup. My stance is they have shedded a few LeftHanded hitting OFs the past few seasons such as Podsednik , Mackowiak , Owens (DL) , Brian Anderson , Erstad . They were so weak in the OF and 2nd base vs LHP at thats what they upgraded. Once Iguchi gets dealt Richar plays 2nd but he is LH and young.

The breakdown of how bad it truly was. I dont deny LAST YEAR Chi didnt matchup well or couldnt hit vs LHP. It's just not 2007 anymore..

57 / 258 1 Hr 17 RBI 23 BB 49 K .221

That was the group of Mackowiak the ultity player , Podsednik , Owens , Erstad and Anderson vs LHP. All LHB and absolutely terrible performances.

Then 2nd Base was an issue. Iguchi 20/99 .202 2 Hr 6 RBI 16bb 19K and he is RHB! Who was replaced by a LHB Richar 8/39 2Hr 6 RbI 6 bb 10 K.
28/138 4hr 12 rbi 22bb 29K .203 AVG

To further show how bad thinsg were at times you had Luis Torrero and Andy Gonzalez two young RHB playing the OF.
25 / 132 4 Hr 9 RBI 21 BB 43 K .189 BAA vs LHP

All the above mentioned no longer play in Chi or have anything more then minor backup roles. They combined to hit 110/ 528 14 Hrs 50 RBI 66B 121 K .210 .296OBP. All season CHI had 1476atbats vs LHP or 36% of there atbats

On top of that Joe Crede was hurt and wound up having back surgery.
7 /34 0 Hr 5 RBI after hitting 273 10 Hr 34 RBI in 183 at bats in 2006 vs LHP.

Thome battled injuries power numbers remained the same but went from 236 to 196. making a bad situation worse. So far he is doing much better vs LHP and I would expect him to be closer to his low 240 career avg vs LH .

So the have acquired Swisher who was about 290+ last 2 years in Oakland vs LHP and Cabrera who has been somewhat inconsistent vs LH season to season but he did hit 300 last year which would be a 100 upgrade from Richar and Ighuci. remember Uribe just slide from SS to 2nd B. Plus if Quentin doesnt work in LF they have Fields who I think is coming back this year. He hit 11 hrs and batted 321 in 100 atbats with 25 RBI.

The point is there lineup has flipped to one which will do better vs LHP then RHP. Now vs RHP it does have Thome and AJ plus switch hitting Swisher . However Swisher really drops vs RHs. Just how RH has Chicago become? They have 2 natural LHB and thats it Thome and AJ plus 1 SWH in Swisher. Although not sure of Brian Anderson status? He would be another LHB.

To me that means power RHP and in general tough RHP with great sinkers like Wang or Webb will have success vs this lineup. Granted Webb is in the NL but I mean that type of SP with a good 2 seamer. Last game of the year for WSOX in 2007 see there lineup. They have 5 LHP and Fields , Dye , Konerko , and Uribe which the 1st 3 is sweet but as you can guess from the earlier splits your were not getting much from the rest of the lineup...

This was taken from MLB.com . It talks about the lack of speed the WSox have put the emphasis they have put on getting men on base. He laters say why do you need to steal a base when your team can hit doubles and HRs and in one swing get you two or three runs. Which is what I was trying to say yesterday to VK. The Sox avg wont be anything special vs LHP but looking at there lineup with solid RHB's from Swisher , Cabrera , Dye , Konerko , Crede , and the emergence of Quentin , with Uribe leaves alot of tough outs for LH as compared to years past. I believe they have avg 1.75 (WHIP) baserunners and scored 29 runs in 37 innings vs LHs.

BALTIMORE -- Give Ozzie Guillen credit for being a man of his word where the team's philosophy on offense is concerned.

The White Sox manager mentioned numerous times during Spring Training how he didn't necessarily want a speed guy at the top of his order, but instead desired any sort of leadoff hitter who consistently could get on base. So, the fact that the White Sox had an American League-low one stolen base entering Wednesday's road contest against the Orioles didn't fly in the face of Guillen's aggressive style.
"We don't have the type of ballclub that's going to steal 100 bases," Guillen said. "As long as we run the bases well, as long as we stay aggressive on the basepaths ...
"I'd rather have people on base, have 100 people on base than have 100 guys stealing bases. I think the on-base percentage is pretty important."
Orlando Cabrera had the first stolen base for the White Sox, coming in the first inning of the season opener in Cleveland. Both Jermaine Dye and Nick Swisher were picked off, which technically count as caught stealing, by Oakland starter Greg Smith on Monday.
Yet, Guillen's desire for better on-base percentage as a team has manifested itself in a .345 total, which ranks them fourth in the AL. It's a far cry from last year's dismal .318 showing, leaving them as the worst in the game.
Jerry Owens' right adductor tear took away the White Sox primary speed threat to begin the 2008 campaign. The addition of players such as Cabrera and Nick Swisher didn't exactly do much to help that team speed, but they certainly have been on base numerous times for the potent middle hitters.
A stolen base isn't needed when a double or home run scores two or three runs at a time.
"You have to adjust with what you have," Guillen said. "If you don't have that speed, make sure you run the bases right. In the American League, it's hard to have a team that can run. "Maybe there are two teams that really push it, the Minnesota Twins and Tampa Bay Rays, and a little bit the California Angels. I think it's more important to have people on base when the big guys come up."

Okay not to todays game. Before I get into it . Just one MORE thing I am not trying to be right with VK. Honestly I am just trying to open some eyes to changing a situation. I would hate to see people fade Chi thinking they dont matchup well vs LH when that could be a HUGE angle to exploit early as people dont recognize the shift in there lineup. Thats it maybe I will be wrong but I honestly dont think I will. Its jsut INFO to use. Regardless of who is right or wrong it wont change a thing. There are no prizes or awards it a simple debate.......

Now what does that bullshit have to do with today? No matter how you slice it today will feature 6 RHP and just 3 LHB( unless Anderson is available).

Swisher only 233 vs RHP this year , 250 last year but his OBP was 100 pts lower then vs LHP and 241 in 2006. Is he terrible vs RH? No , but quite clearly his maxim performance is vs LHP.

Cabrera is a blessing. A RHB who has hit a shade below 300 in each of the past 2 season. Its important because as I said the lack LHB . So you knwo Cabrera's performance isnt great effected by a righty or lefty?

Thome is somehow just 2/30 vs RH but I am quite confident that changes. Especially since he is tatooing LHP so far. He hit 315 with 29 -75 in 289abs last year and 321 36hrs 85 RBI in 299abs in 2006. MONSTER easy as that !

Konerko and Dye both low 240s last year one 19-65 the other 20-56. Problem beyond avg is about 380-400 at bats and alot of Ks Dye 86 and Konerko 79 plus Dye doesnt walk much and a 299 OBP. That can be rally killers..

AJ is off to a hot start and last year just 266 vs RH but 295 career. Expect closer to that.

Crede is off to a torrid start and destroying RH with 4 Hr and 15 RBI but doing zip vs LHP. Crede is like Cabrera though and doesnt see much dropoff from LH to RH but I think because he is a slugger it pertains more to medicore RHP then all RHP...

Uribe is in regression and is basically a HR guy in the low 20s and not much else. His OBP career is below 300. he strikes out alot and at this point I dont think he hits close to his 250 career avg vs RHP would expect more like 230 and it could be worse then that .

Quentin is the rare young RHB who has hit better to date vs RH then LH . I think that will change but I guess for now is a minor plus. Hasnt shown to be much more then a 250 vs RH though but already has 8 rbi in 28atbats vs them. Posible if Anderson is available this is who is likely to sit.

So the WSox thanks largely to Thome still should be okay vs RHP. Just I feel the really good ones will give them alot of trouble. They will always be one swing away with 5 legit 30 HR guys and a couple 20 + HR guys in Quentin and Uribe , even the more balanced hitters like Cabrera and AJ will hit 15 knocks.

Recently I noticed that some RH relievers have come in and shut them down. For instince Aquilino Lopez when he relieved Willis in the 1st inning, and the past 2 days when the LHP were chased they were shutdown by RH relievers.

Now Guthrie struggled vs them last year but the lineup has changed. Guys no longer here 6/17 4runs , 4rbi , with 4 BBs that game. Guthrie didnt complete 4 .

Games started by RHP:
2 runs vs Carmona
2 runs vs Westbrook

Actually not suprising since Westbrook is a sinkerballer and Carmona actually throws a heavy 2 seamer with very good velocity. Which is what the credit hs development to. Sort of backups my point about them vs RHP. Since they have scored 7 vs Blackburn , 5 vs Baker , 13 Verlander and 7 vs Verlander. Some reason they hit Verlander well. Against Blackburn just 2 runs but 7 hits in 5 innings. An okay start at best. Baker 5 inn 3 run all solo Hrs luckily for him, 5 hits with 7 Ks decent except for the Hrs. Which means not really decent at all more of an indicator of this long ball type offense. First meeting they hit Verlander but the 2nd 6 runs allowed on 4 hits in 7 + innings. The crazy part is all the RBI were 2 out RBI . Again shows that you can only contain them for so long regardless of how well your pitching.

Basically Chicago can be held check especially vs RHP but any mistakes they make you pay. Guthries biggest issue to date has been getting LHB out. Huge issue I see with him is HRs allowed 3 already to LH and 14 last year .The blessing for him is WSox just 220 L10 vs RHP. Still his splits werent very good at Camden probably because its a small park and he would appear to be a flyball pitcher allowing 23 Hrs in 175 Inn. His numbers also dip somewhat with more then 5 days rest.

Seems to be a nice day here so assume so in Balt. Even with Wsox struggling somewhat vs RH this is a decent matchup for them. Worst case I would expect them to get 3 or 4 runs today as even the O's pen has been shaky of late.

I say this because I dont buy the Floyd KOOL AID just yet. The kid is promising but he seems to own DET. Who both of his starts were against. His last start he took a no-no I think into the 8th and I am sure all "public" bettors are aware of that. I wonder if they know that was his longest start in his ML career though? He is now 2-0 with a 1.71 ERA in four starts against Detroit since last September. He is 0-3 with a 4.50 ERA in three starts against other teams in that span. Det now more then ever is all RHB and that is a negative obviously all RH would love to face those type of unbalanced lineups. Last year LH hit 314 against him but to his credit he was better on the road but Camden is a worse park then Chicago's for HRs. Another guy who allows alot of HR 17 in 70 inn..Not that the Os have much speed but more then Det and baserunners were 12/12 last year. While its minimal the splits for him heavily favor day starts especially since both DET games were in the day. At night 6.13 ERA and 309 BAA. He probbaly will see 5 LHB today.

The O's numbers are not very good vs RHB. Except Markakis and Scotts. Roberts are okay but below avg for him and Huffs avg is poor but 1 hr and 10 Rbi isnt so bad. The other LH will be a SS either Henrandez or Fahey. Whats killing them is there RHB especially Hernandez and Millar. Jones and Mora are only doing slightily better...

Bottomline is I would lean towards the OVER on the total but not sure there is enough value to bet it. Randy Marsh has been an UNDER machine so far in 4 games. However very few games he did for either the past so less then 9 runs and his last game oin Sunday ATL vs WASH should have went way over but pushed at 9 or lost at 9.5...I know I had it and watched 8thousand baserunners get stranded. I may be reaching a sense since both lineups are in a funk vs RH one 220 L10 and the oher 230. I think O's are a bit tougher besides the fact they are home but because they have 4 high quality LHB to send at Floyd who has shown to struggle vs them.

Also the HR factor as both allow a decent amount and Camden is small. They are 93-76 OVER at home past 3 and 47-37 Past 3 at home when the total is 9 or 9.5..

I really like Baltimore here....possibly the -1.5 RL and small lean towards the over which I am not sure I am interested in. Sox past few days pissd away opportinities. They had a runner with less then 2 out thrown out TWICE yesterday in the 3rd and 5th inning and prior to that had 2 runners picked off vs Greg Smith. Again though WSox have really struggled recently vs RHP in the past week Last 7 days they Sox are just 212 and you can imagine what it would be had they not smoked a few LH SP in that span...O's only 222 last week but the one plus is ADam Jones emergence...They have scored more the 4 runs just 3 times past 10 but have only faced 1 poor SP in Hammell. Last few have been some solid guys even though Contreras is inconsistent as can be....

I just dont like the room for error on the UNDER play as there isnt very much..If you have a good feel for it please trust yourself...I prefer the Orioles here...

...

Orioles -110 ish {2u}

Leans to - 1.5 +180 and Over 9 -120ish..but maybe Over 29 RHE is a better way to play it...

Nice work...glad they held off long enough for you.. I guess I should have just passed..as I was in good shape on my 1st four plays..only a minor give back..

Other 7 PM starts and thoughts-

Cle has lost 3 straight at home and now 5 of 6. Carmona takes the mound here and his track record vs DET is pretty solid. He is the a good fit to slow the Tiger offense down IMO. Clearly some concern with his last start but the good part is he wasnt hit hard like Sabathia was . He simply couldnt throw strikes. You wonder and this slipped into my mind before his last outing , just how pressure he was putting on himself after signing the new contract extension to show he was worth it. Could be a simply vbad day in cold weather but just seems odd he was solid and then couple days after the signing shits the bed. He was having minor control issues I guess though with 9 bbs in his 1st starts.

Crazy stat time...Verlander 1.19 WHIP but 6.52ERA. Which if you read my novel above you will see he was done in my 2 out hits with men on base. Carmona 1.605WHIP and 2.20 ERA. Those numbers dont correleate !

With verlander he was crusining on Opening Day vs KC then he started struggling in the 6th or 7th could be fatigue. The next game he is okay and then has a terrible 5th inning and the last was the game with just 4 hits but 6 earned. So he is pitching better then the numbers show and Carmona had allowed just 2 runs 1earned in his 1st 13 innings.

The scary part is Verlander has had issues vs Cle especilly last year whe he was roughed up for 7 runs in 3 of his 5 stars vs them. However Cle is not hitting well and even put Michaels in over Dellucci . Michaels usually hits LHP well and is hitting 097 this year. Last year this lineup was 24 vs 81 vs Verlander but gone is kenny Lofton a LH who hit him well. Martinez owned himlast season with 4 Hrs but had been 0-6 in 2006. Career 41-137 off him 10bb 36 Ks but 9 HRS...

Carmona has held RH to a 145 clip so far after hitting just 216 last year. This lineup was only 12 /53 with 2bb 12ks and Thomas and Jones both LH not facing him.

So played the UNDER 9 {1U} and think we see a Tribe 4-2 win...kinda scary Cle needs a win and sop does veralnder but his track record is shakty vs Cle and at the Jake. Think Carmona can revert tohis 1st starts keeping it to about 1 run and the pen should be somewhat rested here...CLE 4-2 win..?? So might add Cle as well....

Just based on price dont you have to gamble on the Yanks? beckett hasnt looked special yet and Moose didnt have much and made 1 bad pitch to Manny. The pen is stretched thin though...watching Giambi yesterday I thinkhe starts a nice hitting streak today....Actually prefer the Under maybe 1st 5 under abit more....Big thing is they need to make Beckett work he lasted solong becuase he had just 88 pitches last game...elevate his pitch count...not sure I get involved...alot of yesterdays hits by both teams just founds holes and gaps or were broken bats...which tells me alot of BS runs...Moose always better at the Stadium and some better weather should help him....

Played the Nats as a value play in my terms. What I mean is you look at this game and the surroundinhg situation...would seem to me to be a coin flip ..if tey played it a 100 times under today scenarios wouldnt expect NY to win more then say 55-60 % and you get what +140 for that risk maybe more?? Thats a value play to me.....teams avoiding sweeps have done well today especially being divisional opponent...Figuerora offa high does he revert back to form?

No interest in the Jays / Rangers. Texas finally won a game would lean to them. Probably a 1/2 unit play since the price is huge..Seeing halladay again and having the type of lineup which sends out alot of LHB...probably an under though...Rangers left so many on base yesterday and Padilla the type of pitcher with good velocity and a slurve who can quiet Tor somewhat sleepy bats.....no Young or Blalock though certainly the UNDER is very attractive now....

Braves to avoid the sweep. Smoltz has looked solid and has solid track record vs ATL when there lineup was alot deeper...think Nolasco gets hit hard...so lean over as well esp at 8.5.....

Going out for poker shortly so I thought I would clarify my positions on the games. Mets? Do I want to play them? Yes! The problem is when I think of laying real money odds with Fiqueroa I start laughing too hard so for health reasons I am staying off.
KC? I played them first half and game. We might see Super Garland and I lose. Bottom line is in 3 starts first 5 Garland has given up 12 runs. His one good outing at Minn just like Tomko is suspect because of the Minn hitting fluctuations. Anaheim does not even have a winning home record or a solid pen and they are playing a team that has dominated them. Do I really trust Tomko? No.
Texas? I played them first 5. Go to Covers and look at both starters vs the other team. Plenty of examples. They both flip flop. Padillia is set for a good game and Halladay is supposed to have trouble today. Toronto still has a real pen edge so not interested in them for the game but a straight up win is possible. Toronto 3-7 last 10 at home on Thursday and Halladay 3-2.
Atlanta? Nolasco has terrible splits vs Left handed hitting. See Braves line up. Braves have almost no pen right now. Smoltz last year after an Atlanta loss 6-8. Numbers dropped. Am I supposed to bet Florida for the game and Atlanta first half? No idea. I think I will watch and learn.
Padres? Peavy is an unstoppable god at home with this Ump. This ump in general has been very bad for chalk favorites. Peavy looked like the edge was fading last game. Colorado 10-10 last 20 in San Diego. Peavy at home on Thursday 6-4 losing to Kim, Cain, Haren and Trachsel. Just not feeling inspired here. I am late for the party re the line for playing the dog and not comfortable playing the favorite. Still working back into baseball from hockey and NBA just do not know enough to say anything relevant on the other games. GL

Thats the frustrating point ATP the casual fan realizes why dont they ? You can say whatever you want about Manny Ramirez but he is one of the best RHB of his generation and his play in LF was he looks lazy isnt that bad. Watch Robinson Cano he has that same laidback attitude in the field. He doesnt even attempt to cut off a wild throw by a catcher on a stealing attempt. He has that nonchalant flip when he throws. Just saying Manny isnt the only guy with that coasting approach to defense. he makes some good plays in LF if you watch enough. Manny is locked in and its scary he absolutely no fear up there.

The other frustrating point is Mike Mussina. I am so happy to hear John Flaherty basically call him out saying he is stubborn and he needs to realize he has to make changes. In reference to pitching inside. Like they just said in the pregame throw 2 seamers inside and they will run off the plate its that simple. He wants to nibble away , nibble away and nibble he isnt scaring anyone. Sure he can survive lineups that are not deep like a TB or even a Toronto lineup but Boston is always the biggest concern. Its just sad that he cant try and listen to others and adjust. I am very frustrated with his attitude because Mussina has always been soft . I would be very proud of him if he threw 86-88 and was able to be successful but of course he has to do it his way.....

Our pen is taxed already and its fucking April !!!!

Postgame ...

Girardi says guys like Maddux , Moyer ...get by living on the corners....oh boy some people just dont get it...this isnt the NL and Yankee Stadium is a park that benefits RHP....

Painful to lose a +150 dog in the bottom of the 14th on a wild pitch after you decided with a man on 3rd and 2 dead to walk Wright and Degado intentionally ....why walk Wright? I just dont get it.....

In general a pretty good day that was a couple inces away from an awesome day..think I went 4-2 earlier and counting 1st 5 as seperates plays finished 8-4 at night..12-6 not so bad about + 8 units...still Mets would have been nice icing...
