Thursday Hoops with Handy

Pretty much a regular
Hi there,

Welcome to Thursday hoops with Handy!!! Well, lets just say I just missed a chance at hitting one of the book ends on my Pacers/Spurs bet. I had -13 and +15 and had the Pacers hit their last 3 point shot I would've hit the book end. Oh well, tough bet to win but it was worth it. The oddsmakers had this game right on.

Thursday hoops has a couple games of interest.

First off: I see no reason to lay off the Nuggets freight train. I'm thining about taking the points and continuing to fade the Bulls. This Bulls team is not a contender contrary to what the media would like to think. They're just not that good. One night they're fantastic and the next you find them losing at Memphis and then at home to a depleted Clippers team. That's not a championship caliber team.

I'm so glad I decided not to bet the Cavs +3 at home over Dallas. As I said yesterday betting against Dallas is rarely if ever a good idea. Tonight I guess they were motivated to beat the Cavs. I didn't see the game.

Portland at NY - I want no part of this game. I would think the Knicks win but who gives a shit about this game?

Sacramento at Phoenix - Lets just say Phoenix is going to win. You want to guess the margin and pay 10% if you lose. Have fun with that. That's not my idea of a good bet. Phoenix can choose to run up the score or simply take it easy. Either way there is probably an 80% chance they win this game. Maybe higher.

Lakers at Memphis - I believe the Lakers will win this game. Since Walton and Odom have returned they've looked much better. That should go without saying. Anyways, the line appears to be up to 5. It opened as low as 3.5 at sportsbook.com. There is no way I'm betting the Grizzlies and as you know I'm not ever interested in laying road chalk so I'm going to look at the final score and see how many suckers lost with LA not covering the number. The game to bet against the Lakers is Friday night at Oklahoma City. Oh yeah, that's right you can't bet NBA games when the lousy basketball tournament is on. Can you?

The best game of the night college and pro is likely to be in Houston at the Toyota Center. Detroit at Houston. I'm hoping Billups plays but either way I see the Rockets winning this game. Detroit has no one who I believe can handle Yao Ming and in my opinion the Rockets are a better team than the Pistons. If there were a game tonight which I would consider laying the points it would be this one. Plus, Detroit has a big pay back game Friday night at San Antonio. I've got them circled to win that game so of course I will be taking the points in that one. All bets are off if Chauncey doesn't play but something tells me he will.

College Poops tonight:

Tennessee to beat Ohio State

Memphis will give A&M a dog fight. I would say take the points. These teams are even. Yes, home court advantage but you're still betting against a Memphis team which has won something like 23 in a row.

Kansas will beat Southern Illinois - I'm not a psychic so I can't predict the margin but I want nothing to do with betting against Kansas. Way too scary of a bet. Maybe when they play a team which I believe could beat them it would be worth a shot. If Southern Illinois wins so be it.

Pitt is going to be no easy test for the Bruins. Mark that one down. If you think for one minute UCLA is going to run and hide in this game I think you're a fool. Perhaps I'm the fool for saying it but these teams are very evenly matched and 3 points might be a lot in a potential low scoring game like this.

Well I will be the first to say that I plan on watching Ohio State vs. Tennessee and that's probably it. I only plan on betting this one game. I'm going to spend my time watching the pros. Fuck college hoops the quality of play sucks. It's not exciting and some believe it is simply because these kids are so fucking brain dead that they make the end of the game exciting when it should usually be over. These teams find ways to blow 7 pt. leads with 40 seconds left. Brain dead. I will almost guarantee you that some team won't guard the basket on the inbounding play with few seconds to go in one of this weekends games. It happens every year. Last year was a big money maker for me in this tourney. This year I've more or less spun my wheels and elected not to watch the games. Last week I had a big bet on USC to beat Texas and I didn't even see the game. You know what it's better that I didn't.

I love the NBA.

Good luck and as always life is dandy being a capper named Handy!!

Excellent thoughts..

Billups most likely may sit out next 3-4 games. Its a muscle injury and he is more concerned about the playoffs. Then again, he could be right there playing tomorrow. He is tradiationally a slow healer though.

The Houston-Detroit game itself is interesting. Yao is a force against us many times but we have more bodies than ever to throw at him. Prince plays McGrady better than any other player in league. Should be a fun matchup. Detroit cruised in the 4th quarter of the first meeting. I am guessing no Billups and Houston wins an extremely tight game. Last year Detroit dominated in there and won w/injured players earlier this year. Houston has that in the back of their minds.

Bulls have been struggling the last week, playing down to really bad teams. But I think they have a good shot in the playoffs; they've beaten every top team.

Gave Mia trouble last yr, and with Wallace, should prove to be an even harder out. At worst, they will make whomever plays them work for their win. You can't discredit them because they sometimes like to not work hard against bad teams; every team does that throughout the season.

If the playoffs were to begin today the Bulls would play Toronto. They would lose that series. I know Chicago has had their number the past few years but in my opinion the Raptors are a better team than the Bulls.

Where do you fellas think this totals line will be? I'm thinking a very close game in the low 80s...like 84-83.

so obviously I'm thinking about an under there...

opinions?

with Bargnani out, I question that. The Raptors played like absolute shit tonight...and only won because the Magic managed to play like absolute day-old shit.

He will be back in time for the playoffs. It doesn't take months to recover. Remember Ben Roethlisberger was right back on the field a couple weeks later playing football of all things.

...and he wasn't quite the same...

they have to cut through muscle to cut out an appendix. It takes a while to heal...and then there'll be conditioning......especially with their preferred running style.

We'll see, I guess. But I'd take the Bulls over the Raptors every day right now.

:shake:

appendectomy, he could be practicing next week. All depends what stage Bargnani was in. My wife had her's out 3 years ago and it was late stage 3. There are 4 stages it goes and that 4th stage is when the appendix blows and lets put it this way, that's not good. with that said, she was out of the hospital the next day and on her feet working out in less than a week so he will be there for the playoffs, probably in time for some games before as long as there is no infections.
