Seattle Mariners vs. Baltimore Orioles
Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at 7:05 p.m. ET at Camden Yards in Baltimore

Who Pitches for Seattle?

Seattle starts struggling pitcher Robbie Ray.

Ray has allowed at least one home run in five straight outings.

Above all, he has struggled most recently.

In his last three starts, he allowed a combined total of 12 earned runs.

Baltimore is not the team against which Ray may expect to turn things around because he is pitching in their venue tonight.

In Camden Yards, Ray is 0-2 with a 6.57 ERA in three career starts.

He most recently pitched there last year where he yielded an FIP (like ERA but factors out fielding) of well over 5.00 in both starts.

Who Pitches for Baltimore?

Baltimore starts the struggling Kyle Bradish who has allowed a combined total of 15 earned runs in his last three starts.

Outdoing Ray, Bradish has allowed at least one home run in all six of his starts this season.

Primarily, Bradish throws a fastball-slider combo.

Both pitches make up just over 80 percent of his arsenal.

I like the Mariners tonight because they rank eighth in slugging against Bradish's favorite pitches from righties.

Moreover, the M's are hitting the ball well. They've scored six runs or more in three of their last four games.

Ty France, for example, carries a 12-game hitting streak into tonight's contest.

Minnesota Twins vs. Detroit Tigers
Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at 7:10 p.m. ET at Comerica Park in Detroit

Who Pitches for Minnesota?

Minnesota is fortunate to start Bailey Ober tonight who has been its most profitable pitcher.

This season, Ober is yielding +4.05 units overall.

While the "over" is hitting in most of his starts, Ober can't get any credit for that because he is not swinging bats.

Instead, he has been a consistent force on the mound especially against the lineups he is most familiar with, which are those in his division.

Against fellow AL Central teams, Ober has yielded a 3.34 FIP against Chicago, a 3.14 FIP against the Tigers, and most recently a 2.14 FIP against the Royals and a 0.80 FIP in the rematch.

I like Ober tonight because he matches up superbly against the Tigers.

Primarily, Ober throws a fastball, slider, changeup, and curveball.

Detroit ranks second-to-last in slugging .323 against these pitches from righties.

Who Pitches for Detroit?

Detroit starts Tarik Skubal today.

Like his Twin counterpart, Skubal enjoys superb form.

Skubal has yielded a sub-three FIP in four consecutive starts.

Also like Ober, Skubal has been excellent against divisional rivals, having yielded a sub-three FIP in all four contests in which he faced a team from the AL Central.

While he allowed a lot of runs in his start against Minnesota, he suffered from a BABIP (batting average of balls in play) that was high despite the minimal extent to which he yielded hard contact.

He won't suffer bad fortune again.

Cincinnati Reds vs. Boston Red Sox
Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at 7:10 p.m. ET at Fenway Park in Boston

Who Starts for the Reds?

Cincinnati starts its least profitable pitcher tonight, Hunter Greene.

Greene has been particularly bad in night games. In his starts in these games, the Reds are 0-4.

No matter how hard a guy throws, he won't be good if he can't locate his stuff well.

Hence, regardless of his ability to average 98 mph on his fastball, Greene walks a lot of batters and surrenders many home runs.

The Red Sox are particularly unlikely to struggle against Greene's fastball because they rank fourth in slugging .581 against the 98 mph fastball from righties.

Primarily, Green throws a fastball and slider. Boston ranks fourth in slugging against these pitches from righties.

Who Starts for Boston?

Boston has a strong pitching advantage with Garrett Whitlock whose superior control ensures that, unlike Greene, he has a long-term place in a starting rotation.

Given the fact that his Red counterpart is Greene, he'll have a large margin of error in tonight's game.

The Reds, who are around average against Whitlock's favorite pitches, have cooled off since their 20-run explosion against the Cubs, and face an in-form starter, won't do nearly enough to win.
