This Year's Players for Hall of Fame Consideration

I'm still bitter Murphy isn't in. But I don't think he'll ever get in, especially on this ballot. It will be fascinating to see what these voters do.

That's Lou Whitaker for us Tigers fans.

Ridiculous he's not in there when compared to other second basemen from his era.

You know as most do...

Once things don't happen with regards to the HOF early on in the process, you're chances decrease dramatically!

Reasons on the no votes.

I'm not disagreeing, just curiosity.

Sheffield was an asshole that made errors on purpose when he was on the Brewers and if you fuck over my team you don't belong in the hall of fame.

All Pete Rose wanted was to be in the HOF and they let him die without giving him the honor so F U baseball HOF.

I always thought of him as a prick, but man I really liked him in Detroit.

One of those guys, you hated till he was helping you.

I also had him here later in his career when he mellowed.

I don't disagree with these other than I'd include Delgado as I feel like he semi-defined first base in a different but same way Mattingly did. Helps that he's a Puerto Rican hero whether that matters to you or not, dunno. 10 straight years of 30+ HRs is an incredible feat. Checks most of the boxes for me.

They won't put Bonds, Clemens or ARod in anytime soon and thats a disgrace since all three are absolute all time greats. Its impossible to take the hall of fame seriously when guys like this are not included and thats not even mentioning Pete Rose the all time hit king.

Problem with these kinds of threads is they ALWAYS become a referendum on the HOF or anything like it in all sports and that's so played out it's hard to hold the conversation. I don't care about things like it in general, NFL, NBA whatever. I wouldn't put the 'roid guys in but objectively doing so for the case of the original post because arguing against shit like that is so played out, so include them for all I care. Include the others that made the game more famous too during that era...I mean the word fame is in the name.

On that current list Gandy I can't make an argument against any you included. I just would include Delgado. I do consider Toronto a big market but he'd be a shoe in if he played in Boston/LA/NY markets with his stats.

It's also hilarious your reasoning for not including Sheffield Brewers when the steroid guys make him look like Mr. Rogers compared to them.

Making errors on purpose is far worse than taking a drug and even before the steroids Bonds and Clemens were all time greats.

Sheffield was an amazing hitter and my issues with him are very much from a fan stand point hating what he did to my team. If character is as important as they say it is he’s a scumbag and should be eliminated.

How do you take the HOF seriously when you include cheaters? What does incentivizing steroid use do to discourage future use?

Bonds was a hall of famer way before steroids were an issue. If a guy is borderline I'd keep him out but a player as great as Bonds belongs in.

With the 5 second rule the question I ask is can I picture this player in action and does he have something historic about him that makes him HOF worthy. Murphy I might be convinced to change my mind although I don't remember exactly what position he played. Did he start at catcher and move to the outfield? I do remember he was MVP at least once or twice.

The others, I know who they are but they are not very memorable to me. They have the feel of compilers....my preference is high ceiling guys.
