SportsBusiness Daily is reporting that Brett Favre will be the cover athlete for the upcoming "Madden NFL 09," video game.
The game, which is set for an early August release, will be the 20th installment for the video game.
Favre is expected to appear on CBS' "Late Night" tonight to make the official announcement.

Legendary Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre will man the cover of Madden NFL 09, confirming yesterday's rumors. EA Sports announced the move today, drawing parallels between Favre's recently-ended career (he retired in March) and the long-running football game franchise. "Madden NFL Football and Brett Favre are sports icons who have set the standard and revolutionalized their positions within their respective genres," said Dale Jackson, executive producer on the franchise. "Brett Favre is a perfect fit for the Madden NFL 09 cover, as he epitomizes everything the franchise has stood for the past 20 years -- longevity, excellence, and a love of football."
EA Sports also announced some new features for Madden NFL 09 today, including a holographic Virtual Trainer tutorial mode that will teach the sport and controls while assessing your performance. Cris Collinsworth and Tom Hammond will make up the in-booth commentary team, presumably relegating John Madden to some other role in the experience (aside from namesake). Madden NFL 09 promises a new "broadcast style presentation," as well as 32-team online leagues with stat tracking and flexible scheduling.
