The Athletic Poll -- QB rankings

My thoughts:

- Until Burrow wins a title he's not 1A. He's 2.
- Stafford is too high. He's got a career losing record and four of his five playoff wins came in one year. The difference between Stafford and Goff is Stafford got to play the Bengals in the Super Bowl while Goff had to play against a Belichick D.
- Daniels is too high for one year of football. Take a look at RG3's rookie season....wasn't all that different.
- I'd have Dak #10 ahead of Baker and Stroud, behind Hurts.
- Flacco is a Tier 3 guy. Winning record in both the regular season and playoffs, a big game player.
- I'd have Fields in tier 3 about 5 spots above his current position

Quarterbacks don't win titles by themselves. How is it his fault that his defense sucks? How does Mahomes get credit for having the best HC and the best DC in football? Absolutely unfair. Burrow's passer rating was 15 points higher than Mahomes' last year...and we didn't even mention his offensive line.

I think it’s a really good list. Splitting hairs between Burrow, Allen and Jackson…sounds like I’m in the minority but I’m good with Stafford at 5 when healthy

Matt is one of the more underrated QB's this century.
The fact is, he didn't have great running games until he arrived in Los Angeles.

He also didn't have the greatest OL's for most of his Detroit tenure.

Did he put up some extra stats in the 4th quarter? Sure. That was part of the teams he was on, though.

He's shown that with a good defense and solid running game/receivers, he can win a championship. He did just that. To be honest, the Rams were the closest to taking out Philly last year. They had the chance on their final drive, and the play calls late were ridiculous. That weather didn't help as well!

All that being said, heading into 2025, I wouldn't have him in the top 5 QBs. I would take Jayden, Justin, and Jalen over him.

In my opinion,

Drake Maye and Bo Nix should both be a bit higher.

Rodgers should be low 20's.

That is all I have to say on this list.

I figured this would be good for fodder and a nice discussion to wet the appetite for this season!

What are you talking about? They got to a Super Bowl with Burrow. They lost. Largely because the offense didn't score in the last 25 minutes of the game.

Burrow's most damning stats: He's 1-9 in weeks 1 & 2 the season, which implies a lack of preparation. And he's 3-5 against the Cleveland freaking Browns with a passer rating that would put him in the middle of the pack. He has not reached pinnacles yet where one could look at those flaws and say he's done too much for us to care about such details. I'm probably being generous with him at #2. He should probably be #4.

Allen is #2 over Burrow for me. Regardless of last year's Fat Pat jokes anyone who doesn't have him clearly #1 has another agenda. Considering he has his worst receiving situation in the last few years he still got them to a SB ffs. Hope someone finally trips them up this year and I hope it's Lamar but not gonna count on it. Likely be Allen if it happens.

I don't mind Joe Cool but still think they battle Pittsburgh for 2nd in the division.

What do you mean what am I talking about? We're measuring quarterbacks not the teams they play on and the coaching staffs that are responsible for preparing them. Zac Taylor is now having his starters play more to prepare his team better for the beginning of the season. That's not a decision that Burrow is responsible for. Burrow's passing numbers, in the fact of his terrible o-line, justify his placement at number one. You act like quarterbacks are entirely responsible for their team's success in the playoffs. It is not Burrow's fault that his coaching staff and defense are inferior.

Just for shits n gigs here are a couple more fairly important ones for me. Crazy the discrepancies among several players (Maye, Geno, Stafford, Nix, Purdy, etc) but it's very true that with so much change going on at QB in the league year over year anymore these things are going to happen annually.

Burrow didn't even have the best passing numbers in the division last year. Lamar threw it 178 fewer times, had nearly the same number of TDs, a better INT%, better YPA, better QB rating, better QBR.

And it‘s Burrow‘s fault that Lamar is in his division — as if that actually mattered to the argument besides providing a cheap point? But yes there are lots of passing stats to look at, and I’m open to putting Lamar at one ahead of Burrow.

Thoughts are the same with Bo and Maye...think we see a qb out the woodworking again this yr like Darnold..we'll its the NFL and it gets weird...
