the total on this game is at 55... is this a joke?

texas averages 40ppg this year, tech 30. texas has scored a minimum of 38 points versus Tech 5 years in a row, and have scored 50+ the past 2 meetings. here are the scores from the past 5 meetings.

52-17
51-21
40-43
42-38
42-7

with the exception of the 2001 game, every score would have soared over a 55 pt total. i know this is probably leach's worst offense in a while, but the texas secondary is not playing well. tech is due to hit some big passing plays, and texas should also be good for a few int's. texas tech's last 4 opponents have all scored at least 26 points vs them, and none of those teams is anywhere near texas. for you trends guys, here is a little stat as well....
  • Over is 10-1 in TEXAS last 11 night games.
  • TEXAS are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 night games.
  • Over is 15-5-1 in TEXAS last 21 games overall.
i like texas to cover, i like them to score alot, i also like tech to score about 24 or so. im thinking of a 44-24 final score. weather shouldnt be a factor. i am also looking into playing the texas team total, its listed on the greek at 33. i will wait to see the pinny number on that

Def like the over there. Number does seem low. UT team total also looks nice.

I am guessing you want this thread title changed?

I like Texas and the over as well. However IMO, there is a decent chance that the UT defense shuts down the Tech offense.

i dont think tech's offense will get shut down at home. the texas secondary has given up some huge plays this year, with or without brown and griffin. see the baylor and nebraska game as good examples. the texas D likes to pressure the qb alot which often leaves their corners in 1 on 1 coverage. this results in either a big play(turnover or sack) for the D, or a big play for the offense if the qb can get the ball off on target.

I'm on the UNDER 55 in this game and here's why you should consider it:

-- Look at the scores that Tech has had against "good" defenses this season: Colorado and TCU (also notice the fact that they have not played a lot of good defenses this season either, but whenever they do, they struggle. The reason is the next point . . . . . . . . )

-- Let's face it, this is not as good an offensive team as the Texas Tech teams of the past under Leach's coaching. They seem to have the talent, although not nearly the talent they have had, but the "team" chemistry is not good and has been a problem all season. Word is that Harrell's teamates can't stand him and thinks he is a dick. Not good for team chemistry if that's the case. Leach has laready had one tirade about his team having "prima donnas" that don't think they need to play hard.

-- On top of this, Texas does not have the offensive fire power they had last year either. Don't look for Texas to pass much against Tech because they will not need to. A run game is conducive to an UNDER. Texas will likely dominate the the time for the entire game.

I suggest that you make a play on the UNDER or a "no play." IMO

This may be the biggest factor. UT knows they will be able to run on Tech all night so why pass?

The Greg Davis Offense.

Why take advantage of a QB hitting 75% of his throws and a bevy of speedy and excellent receivers when you can run draw plays and bubble screens all day?

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Starting defensive tackle Derek Lokey broke his leg in No. 5 Texas' win over Nebraska and will be out indefinitely.
Lokey fractured the fibula in his lower leg in the second quarter Saturday, trainer Kenny Boyd said Monday. Surgery is scheduled for later this week.
Lokey had 24 tackles on the season and also played fullback in short-yardage situations for the Longhorns (7-1, 4-0 Big 12). "This is an unfortunate setback for Derek and our defense," coach Mack Brown said. "It will be important that someone steps up and fill his void for us to continue to be one of the best defenses in the country."

i agree with the greg davis factor consideration, but i have a counterargument to that...

the nebraska game was mccoys first true road game. the weather was bad and nebraska has one of the best HFA's in college football. im not saying i agree with the pussy play callin, but i understand it.

now playing at texas tech is another story. the weather shouldnt be a problem and lubbock isnt as intimidating as lincoln. there should be more texas fans at the tech game than there were at the nebraska game. mccoy already proved he could play well in one road game, now its time to let him do his thing here. texas has traditionally played conservative against oklahoma and did so against nebraska. they have never shown any restraint playing against Tech.

Adam--Lubbock ain't Lincoln but it isn't an easy place to play either. Tech has good crowds and good HFA.

The biggest concern I think for your over play (other than Tech being able to score on Texas) is the wind. Lubbock can have howling winds and if that is the case, no way it goes over.

Good luck on the play. I want to play Texas but hoping someone takes the dog big time on this and I can get it at -10.
