Superbowl Weather Thread

Lets keep updated weather reports in this thread

Its about 90% certain that temperatures during the big game will be under 30 degrees and there are early indications of a storm anywhere from friday to sunday night...

Maybe this isn't the place to address this, but I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else. The League says it's keeping its options open, and the game COULD be played any time between Friday and Monday.

Jan. 23 (UPI) -- As East Coasters grappled with the second polar vortex this month -- plummeting temperatures and blankets of snow -- NFL officials took the opportunity to practice their Super Bowl contingency plan.
Eric Grubman, the NFL's vice president of business operations, spoke to reporters at MetLife stadium on Wednesday, where stadium workers cleared recent snowfall from the bleachers with chutes and snow melters.
“What goes into whether deciding to (move) it, first of all, is public safety,” Grubman said. "Unless it was a state of emergency which affected public resources in a way that made it impossible to get the resources here, or any kind of declaration by any of the authorities from the states involved that made it difficult to travel safety to and from the stadium, we would absolutely respect that.”
Officials said that if meteorologists predicted snow for Super Bowl Sunday, the big game could take place Friday, Saturday or Monday. "Our aim is to play it at 6:30 p.m. [Sunday] and we are going to have every possible resources in place to do that along as conditions are safe," he added. "But if not, we have contingent plans with a lot of options available to us."

So, if the date is changed, won't that make all extant bets "no action?" What a clusterfuck that would be for the books, and potentially for those of us who are locked into lines we like!

Someone said that too me the other day and I laughed it off. Had no clue this was true. Play it Friday night please so I can watch it uninterrupted.

the game will be empty if they do it on Friday, most people probably won't come into town until Friday. they should do it Monday night if not on Sunday

The first forecast for Super Bowl Sunday has been released, and it's currently calling for a high of 35 degrees and a 30 percent chance of snow.

According to Weather.com, snow showers are possible and temperatures will range from 25 to 35 degrees. The Broncos and Seahawks will kick off at 6:30 PM ET, so they'd likely be playing in temperatures in the 20s. Wind isn't expected to be a factor; it's projected to be blowing around 8 MPH. Of course, we're ten days away from the big game, which leaves plenty of time for change. The NFL has previously said that if a winter storm is expected, the game could be moved to Saturday, Monday, or Tuesday. Worst-case scenario would be for Super Bowl to be pushed back to February 9. We're not at that point.

Lol changing the date. Man would that piss off the advertisers. Still seeing a high of 30 with a 30 percent chance of snow.

We're still about a week away from Super Bowl Sunday, so it is not possible to nail down specifics – snow, wind, temperature forecasts – for the game at this time. We'll be able to do that in the coming days.
There are two main weather stories we're focusing on for Super Bowl weekend:

  • Not as cold. Just in time, it appears the frigid cold from earlier in the week will relent and retreat. Instead of daily highs in the teens and 20s, it appears 30s and perhaps low 40s will be in play for the big weekend, closer to average for early February.
  • Snow, freezing rain, or rain? To be clear, we are not anticipating a major storm with heavy precipitation to affect the Northeast on Super Bowl weekend. However, we are expecting a frontal system to slide into the Northeast Saturday, possibly lingering into Super Bowl Sunday. With colder air retreating, all precipitation types, from snow, to sleet, freezing rain, even rain, are on the table with this system. While most of our guidance suggests most of this precipitation may fall Saturday into the early part of Super Bowl Sunday, we still can't rule out any lingering precipitation during the game itself.

FWIW...a ticket writer at a William Hill sportsbook told me yesterday that all SB bets are Action, regardless of when the game is played.

Looks like 40 through the game with 10-20 percent chance of precipitation. Closer To the end of the game though. Winds of 8mph

The weather here is not bad at all. Light wind and cloudy. Walked around outside with just a long sleeve top and jeans and was fine. It is kinda ugly here though.
