Spring Training Betting

Mr Baseball

Pretty much a regular
Games start tomorrow fellas. I don't really bet much spring training as the games are all treated like exhibitions with 7 pitchers and 15 hitters seeing work.

However, especially late spring training, look to play teams that are playing all of their starters vs. benching all of their starters. Yeah, no shit I know, but it happens more than you think and it takes some digging to find lineups before the games go off the board. Just food for thought...

i love betting spring training, there's definitely a lot of money to be made. as you said, toughest part is having to wait for lineups to be released, sometimes only a few minutes before first pitch. but there are usually a few opportunities per day to get a team with most of their regulars at plus money against a lineup of mostly bench players/minor leaguers. obviously that doesn't guarantee anything, but i'll take it every time.

For the WFC's tomorrow vs Pitt:

The line-up for tomorrow Grapefruit League opener in Bradenton against the Pirates has been announced.

Prospect Jason Donald will play second base and bat seventh, joining a host of veterans from last year's squad.

  1. Jimmy Rollins SS
  2. Shane Victorino CF
  3. Raul Ibanez LF
  4. Ryan Howard 1B
  5. Geoff Jenkins RF
  6. Matt Stairs DH
  7. Jason Donald 2B
  8. Eric Bruntlett 3B
  9. Chris Coste C
The Pirates will throw nine relievers tomorrow, each of whom will pitch an inning. The nine, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, are: Chris Bootcheck, Matt Capps, Donnie Veal, Romulo Sanchez, Ron Uviedo, Juan Mateo, Craig Hansen, Evan Meek and Jesse Chavez.

When the Pirates throw a righthander, the Phillies have the ability to go lefty-lefty-lefty-lefty-lefty-lefty against them.

Lefthander Jamie Moyer and righthander Joe Blanton will each throw roughly 40 pitches.

Jayson Werth, Pedro Feliz and Chase Utley are the only position players from the postseason roster that won't be making the trip.

i remember reading in some tigers article that bonderman is going to have an outing where he throws basically all changeups.. might be a good tigers fade that game, ill try and dig it up when i have a moment to see what game it is

At Toronto tomorrow: Brett Tomko followed by Kei Igawa, Christian Garcia, Mike Dunn, Dave Robertson, Dan Giese and Jose Veras.
Vs. Tampa Bay on Thursday: Phil Hughes followed by Phil Coke, Brian Bruney, Damaso Marte, Jon Albaladejo, Mark Melancon.

for what it's worth, yanks pitching plans for their first two spring training games. based off several articles i've seen, a-rod will be in the lineup. not sure about the rest of the regulars.

I can't wait for the regular season to begin, but I guess Spring Training will work for today. I follow the Reds pretty hard-core and was looking at their matchup today.

For the Reds, Volquez will start, then Cueto, then Homer Bailey.

Tampa Bay has Carlos Hernandez, Jason Hammel, Lance Cormier, Neal Frontz, Mitch Talbot, Randy Choate, and J.P. Howell.

I like the Reds with 2 of their top starters going today. The part that worries me is that the Rays are opening up their new facility, but how much can that matter for a Spring Training game?

Leaning Reds ML, but waiting until I can get some lineups.

For today's opener against the Yankees, Gaston plans on starting a handful of his regular position players. Alex Rios will man right field, Aaron Hill will play second base, John McDonald will patrol shortstop, Rod Barajas will catch, Travis Snider will start in left field and Adam Lind will serve as the designated hitter.
Third baseman Scott Rolen, who is returning from a left shoulder injury, is being eased into game action this spring and won't be in the lineup this afternoon. Utility man Joe Inglett will start at third in Rolen's place. First baseman Lyle Overbay is recovering from offseason hernia operations and will also be out of the lineup, replaced by Kevin Millar. Gaston has also decided to start outfielder Buck Coats in center field, which would normally be filled by Vernon Wells. On Monday, Wells strained his left hamstring and could be sidelined for about a month. While Wells is rehabbing, Gaston will give Inglett and utility man Jose Bautista more playing time in the outfield.
LHP Brett Cecil is scheduled to pitch the first two innings for the Blue Jays.
