Sooners @ Bammer Saturday afternoon

majent

Oklahoma Sooners
@gps_3 has a great squad down in Tuscaloosa firing on all cylinders now but I think we are getting healthy at QB with Mateer's hand injury basically healed up now.

Sooners best Defense in nearly 10 years (2016) and the Special Teams has been very solid.

I believe we are a very, very live dog down in Alabama this weekend.

I am glad it is not a night game.

77 degrees and very little wind expected.

I expect a great game and we barely escape with the win..........

I hope you're right,

The game is six aspects, at least:

- coaching/gameplanning/adjustments
- pass game
- run game
- kicking game
- defense against pass game
- defense against run game

The OU Sooners won more of those aspects than they lost on Saturday in Tuscaloosa.

When you go on the road against a program and team/coach as good as Bama has, you must find ways to win and sometimes it is not pretty.

Unlike any school after FSU in game one, The Sooner Defense made Ty Simpson (who is a terrific college QB) look very uncomfortable in the pocket and they forced the shoddy play.

It had more to do with the OU D than anything else.

The ST's? We know how that went.

The bye week did tremendous things for our team and helped Mateer get healthy again.

I am so proud of the Sooners for that performance in an extremely tough environment yesterday against a very good team and coach.

Now, can they come back home and take care of business vs Misery and LS-Who?

I have no idea.

Should be a great game .. if only they could both lose! I kid.

Imagine a pretty close game no matter what so that is always fun
Sorry Brother but watching the Sooners eke out the W in Tuscaloosa then watching Texas get hammered at Georgia, really completed my Saturday.

Just absolutely epic day LOL

I imagine so. Texas looked in pretty good position heading into the 4th and then Smart just outdid Sark (again). On the bright side, Manning has turned a corner and the season isn't over yet.

Texas just not a very good road team right now, besides the ohio state game.

Compare the two box scores between ou/bama and texas/uga though before you get too excited. Texas UGA was a lot closer than the final score. OU-Bama was actually more of a mismatch by box score.

And that is with the deflation of Texas after the two fourth down conversions and onside kick success.

VK you and I both know that box scores can be very deceiving.

Anyone who watched the entire OU v Bama game would be hard pressed to say that just because Bama got more FD's and yards, they were the better team and deserved to win.

They are a great team. No question about it.

But when you go into that stadium vs that team, that coach, that crowd, and you pull off a win? You have done something.

Let's not allow the cappers in all of us take away from a huge 3 dimensional win:

- Timely Defense (defense is a huge part of the game)
- Timely Special Teams (ST's accounts for 1 out of every 6 snaps). ST's are a HUGE part of football. Absolutely huge.
- Clutch O at the right times.

I will let a team run roughshod between the 20's if we can keep them out of the EZ and can force timely turnovers.

When a QB as good as Ty is throws just his 2nd INT of the long season, gets sacked 4 times, and goes 5 for 13 on Third Downs, there is a ton of D being played.

I said before the game and posted here, that our D is the best it has been in years. I sung the praises of our ST's as well. The post is there.

And on Saturday, I am not surprised we won.

When we played Texas, you guys got us. But we all know our QB's hand was not healed up and if it is, maybe the game is closer.

But you never heard me make excuses.

All of the excuses in the world won't change that OU pushed Bama around in their home stadium on Saturday.

It was obvious to any football eye, that the Sooners were the better overall team at the point of attack and took the game to Bama and punched them in the mouth.

Now, can we carry it the next two weeks?

If so, it will difficult to say this should not be a playoff team in the Top 12.

I am not holding my breath because Misery and LS-Who have talented teams.

Fair enough. Box scores never tell the whole story but they are a pretty good indicator of what happened in most games. I am pointing out that had Texas stopped UGA on 4th down in their own territory their odds to win to start the 4th qtr are probably somewhere around +110. They didn't so it doesn't matter but that is a far cry from a team being dominated which is the narrative being circulated.

Uga deserved to win and not saying that OU didn't ... I am just putting a rational spin on the rhetoric (national not necessarily you).

As you say, going into bama and winning is a big deal.

I will also say that Texas isn't good enough to go into Georgia and get a win if they commit a lot of penalties (particularly at key spots, don't get penalties for them at key spots like the PI that was a Manning INT, drop pass after pass in key spots, allow an onside kick when the team prepared for ST trickeration the last two weeks, or fail on the 4th downs. They aren't good enough and almost no one is. I guess this reinforces your point about key plays when and what part of the field they happen at.

As a Texas fan, I love what I saw from Arch though and man can that guy take a hit (aka our oline cannot block anyone).

I am obviously not a fan of Texas and that goes back to the days of good ole' Fred Akers but I can definitely respect the program and I always have.

I am definitely a fan of SARK and of ARCH and when you guys are not playing for us, I root for both of those guys.

ARCH is very talented and I agree very tough.

I think he will be a great QB in due time, and they like you said the OL cannot block and that is the biggest problem on O, starting right up front with the big fellas.
