Saturday thoughts and picks

Satyr

Paster of Muppets
Coming off a solid night. Btw to anyone wondering about my YTD record, I will have it updated these days.
Let's get on to tonight:

The Bulls are coming off a convincing performance against league's best team and are now searching for their 3rd win in as many games against the defending champions. On the opening night of the season Chicago routed the Heat 108-66, spoiling their inauguration ceremony in the process.
Miami counted on revenging the loss in Chicago last month, but they fell short and only managed a 103-109 loss, in which Dwyane Wade sprained his ankle, a rather controversial injury, coach Riley blamed Kirk Hinrich for the injury. Bulls had a few weak nights boarding wise, prior to dominating the interior against the Mavs with a season high 59 rebounds. Tonight O'Neal should be in the line-up, same as Alonzo Mourning (who should return to the line-up after missing last night's game due to flu-symptoms), and Miami will have to tighten their D in order to win this one.

Generally, I like the spot for Miami here, they're coming of an ugly loss, now playing against a team that owes them a lot, first the loss, then the 2nd loss, Wade's injury. This match-up emerged into one of the hottest in the league in less than 4 months time. I think Heat will make a statement tonight, they've been improving their perimeter shooting for a while now, they adjusted their D and provided they drive to the basket not just rely on outside shots, and manage to control the boards or at least cope with the Bulls, I think they can even win this one SU, let alone ATS.

There's a downside to this bet as well. Chicago are 19-6 at their United Center, including 14-1 against Eastern Conference opposition. However, I don't think one win (against Dallas, but still only one win) can result in them being this favored against a much improved Miami, who are still erratic in some parameters of the game, and need to work on consistency, but still a team that is not to be underestimated.

Miami +6.5 (1.98 @ Pinnacle) 6 units
Miami ML (3.50 @ Pinnacle) 2 units

I'll come back later with more plays.

Leans: Memphis ML, Memphis-Portland UNDER 210, Indiana -5,5.

i like miami in this spot also like indiana to give raptors a ass whopping they have been missing btw nice picks yesterday and keep up the nice writeups

thanks man, good luck tonight. I'll probably pull the trigger on the Pacers, I like the new face of the team.

yeh it is, sorry to hear about their withdrawal from the US market. Never looked into why they did it though? Anyone care to explain?

I meant why did Pinnacle withdraw from US market.

btw, who's that chick on your avatar? sizzling.

Pacers -6 (1.95 @ Pinnacle) 6 units

Have I mentioned how much I like the Pacers' new look? Well I do. And I'll be backing them once again. I'm aware this is a tad much, and not the best line ever, but Pacers can take this one with double digits. Toronto are still a typical home team, and despite their recent run, I'm still reluctant to give them as much credit on the road as it would be the case in their building.

Toronto was six games below .500 on Jan. 3, but has won three straight, and nine of 12. The Raptors have not won four straight games since winning five in a row Dec. 28, 2005-Jan. 6, 2006. Excellent run, but I see a letdown opportunity here. Danny Granger is getting more and more responsibility from Carlisle, Ike Diogu is slowly being introduced to the new team, and Pacers' sharp shooters have more guys to depend on, to spread the scoring around. And it's easier that way, according to their recent games. Diogu and Murphy (who has already improved his numbers compared to his Golden State days) should form an excellent triangle (alongside O'Neal) especially in the D, so I expect Toronto to stay well under 90 this time.
Indiana trailed as many as 20 points against Miami in their last game, but went on a 30-9 run and won in the end. Momentum boost or what?
Jermaine O'Neal had an abysmal night (4-20 FG) against Miami, I expect a more physical, fired up O'Neal tonight, overall I expect better numbers for both O'Neal and especially Dunleavy who should raise havoc in Raptors' D.
The Pacers have several players who can drive to the basket, and Toronto don't have nearly as many players to contain such play style.
Expect a boarding mismatch tonight and a double digit win for the hosts.

Mavericks (-11.5) (2.02 @ Pinnacle) 5 units

This spread might seem a bit big but Dallas are coming off an unexpected loss against Chicago, and are looking to get back to the right track. Sacto are b2b, and are woeful on the road (5-13), compared to Mavs' 19-3 home record. This used to be a big rivalry not so long ago, and this would normally be one of the biggest matches on the card, however now it's more a question of how many points above 10 will Dallas be favored.

Mavs have won 21 out of their last 23 matches, but shot season-low 31.2 percent from the floor and managed only 13 first-quarter points at United Center on Thursday.
Normally after such abysmal performance a big, confident team like Dallas will search for a statement win, a bounce-back performance which would bring them back to winning mode. Against a team that played iin Oklahoma last night (b2b road games). Sacramento led 50-46 at halftime, but missed its first 11 shots after the break and scored just 10 third-quarter points on 3-of-24 shooting. They finished the game shooting 36.4 percent. Perhaps visiting Dallas might not be the best place to redeem yourself.
Dallas has won both games over Sacramento this season, beating the Kings 109-90 at home on Dec. 1, and 109-91 at Arco Arena on Dec. 18. Do you know if any bookie out there offers exact score 109-92? I'm willing to throw in a few bucks on that prop.

Wade rips Heat after blowout

"I'm not a motivator," Wade said. "I've never been. Everybody is looking for me to come in and say a speech. It's not going to happen, man. Guys have got to look at themselves in the mirror more than anything. But I'm not a motivator. That's not my job.

"Something's got to change, something's got to happen. It's gotten to the point where you're digging yourself a deep hole. I don't care how good you think you are, the rest of the league is good also.

"It's getting to the point now on the offensive end it's not working smooth. We're relying too much on one or two guys."

Time to step up.

Looks good tonight buddy.

GL, and any thoughts on the Aussie Open Finals on the Mens side?

You wanna make some cash huh :D

nah man, I'm not betting on it. I wrote yesterday Serena and the over were my last bets of the tournament (total profit +30 units).

FedEx could win it 3:0, or 3:1. I don't see a 5 setter here, even though the way Gonzalez has been playing, it could happen. He has to slow game tempo before anything, and don't force any shots. Federer will be attacking much more than Haas or Nadal did against Gonzo, he's gonna shake his confidence by coming up to the net. Gonzo should keep it calm and keep slicing, even though I don't think anything can help him mate :D.

3:1 is my call, O/U? If I had to choose I would take the over. Wild guess (simply for entertainment purposes) : 7:5, 4:6, 6:3, 6:2.

Cheers man.
