Pelfrey is a scrub so i like the Dbacks -1.5. Also kind of like the Gints with Myers laying a hefty price

umpires for tomorrow have been completely updated, not sure if there's a DH for kc/cle tomorrow, lines down so I assume so.

Friday was one of the rare days so far in baseball with few suprises . Home teams were 9-1 till dogs took the last 4 games of the night...gotta love John Maine though...quality start after quality start...and maybe Randolph can manage...?? Church hitting in the 2 hole brings NY to 6-0 when he is penciled in there and it breaks up the LH nicely.....

Some early starts...

Pitt @ Washington...Series is tied at 1-1 and both teams seem to be have nothing but LH SP in there rotation. This is Washingtons 5th in 6 games facing a LHSP and Pitts 5th straight. Looking at the games Pitt who seemingly should hit LHP better appears to be doing so. They worked Santana and while they had just 2 hits both were HRs and he threw eenough pitches to get ousted in the 6th inning and lost in xtras, Perez they made throw ball after ball and chased him before the 2nd , they didnt hit Odalis Perez well but it was a 2-2 game till the pen gave up the lead , they smoked what had been a hot John Lannan today and get slumping Matt Chico today. Chico did pitch well vs them last year. Maholm was great on Sunday and really has been in all his home starts this season. He was decent @ Florida but was hurt by Hrs and roughed up in LA who is one of the best teams vs LHP. Wash has potential to hit LH well but when Zimmerman is at 230 and Kearns and Pena still cant crack 200 your going to be scratching to get runs. (1,2,10,2,6,3,4) thats the samount of runs scored by Wash in its most recent games when facing a LHP and the bigger days are more the pen then anything...So better SP with Maholm and seemingly the better lineup???Tough to pass on Pitt ...have to think Wash is going to struggle with the amount of runs they are scoring lately...Pitt is 3-2 L 5 games losing both by a run....Wash was able to win 4 straight , 6 of 7 and 7 of 9 prior to today but mostly due to pitching and there pen is getting worked hard also it followed a huge losing stretch...what is keeping me cautious is the fact Chio gets 6 days rest here and there seems to be somethingto him pitching better with longer rest. I cant overlook the fact CHico's best start came at home on 6 days rest this year vs ATL going 8 innings and allowing 1 run.

Granted the data is limited but when he is struggling so much and his best start comes on extra rest this year I have to think there is something to it. There is a difference last year but some of it is due the fact he allowed 10 unearned runs in those 72+ innings. Also maholm was terrible in day starts last year but I have a feeling it was more road day starts that he was terrible in which concerns me...

Chi @ Tor - Konerko's absence seems to be hurting the offense as Dye hasnt looked goo since his return. Think he is 0-12 with 7 Ks since he came back in Minny. WSox are 9-2 in day game and Tor is 6-1 so something has to give but TOR is 1-5 vs LHP. Sox seem to be slumping and well jays have spun 6 straight games now allowing 2 or less. To bad last 13 they have scored 3 or less 9 times and twice managed 4 and 5 runs each the others. Danks has been real solid his past few and was decent in his lone career start @ Toronto. Litsch is a decent SP who is gonna allow alot of hits but keep the walks down...sort of a Paul Byrd type.

Sea @ NYY : Think Mariners in a rough spot. Of course King Felix is great but remember they played xtra innings on Thursday losing and then had to fly to NYY. Now they have a 1 PM start on Saturday...nice way to keep a team in a funk IMO...We had our ace and beat Bedard doing little on offense other then a clutch hit or two and alot of SEA miscues...fatigue?? Wouldnt expect to hit much better vs Hernandez but being he is RH that gives Abreu , Matsui and Giambi a better chance of going yard...Mussina still earning my trust though. Good thing is he escaped Cle with another win which hopefully continues to build some momentum. While King Felix has looked good he also faced Balt and Oak in of his 5 starts and his worst outing wa sversus LAA which happens to be his toughest test so far.......His last 4 starts 117 , 115,110 and 115 pitches which is a concern IMO..Just to put in persepctive he didnt top 115 til July last year and 1st time he threw 110+ 4 straight starts wasnt until Sept.....think I have to lean NYY here and maybe even under....

Late afternoon..

NYM @ Zona - Gonna be alot of Webb love but at this price I dont like it one bit. First Webb has faced some crap teams ...SF , SF and Colorado on 5 of the 6 ...big freakin deal there are some of the worst offenses in the game. Second is while his splits are good his defines hard luck vs NY going 2-6 on 9 starts and Zona lost his no decision game,. the way to beat Wenn has always been stack your lineup with LHBs and NY can do that better then most.

LH 15 H & 11 BB in 80 plate appearances{26/80 OBP)
RH 14 H & 3 bb in 86 plate appearances (17/86 OBP)

Last 2 years Webb has had higher ERAs in day games

NYM 40 -117 against him excluding there catcher. Thats pretty sick

Alou 11-23 2 Hr
Beltran 5-20 Hr
Castillo 3-11
Church 5-10 Hr
Delgado 3-14 Hr
Reyes 7-24 Hr
Wright 6-15

Granted I am no fan of Pelfrey at this point but the most important issue with him is getting out LHN and Zona is so unbalanced it has but two in Hudson and Drew clearly not the biggest concerns when looking at there lineup. So naturally they will at times struggles vs RHP.

Last year Pelfrey lost 3-1 @ Zona to a similiar lineup it was minus Upton , Reynolds and Snyder...just 3 hits and 3 runs in 5 + innings..You can look at ARI offense numbers past 10-12 games and see the decline from the 1st 2 weeks of the season as well....

So liking NYM to pull the upset again as they love to play and hit in Zona . Also an over as 8 is low...Webb needed all the vreaks to win vs SD on Sunday and today I think he doesnt get them....Reyes really set the tone today...the big edge Zona has is in the SP and that is really negatated when tou look at the lineups IMO...wouldnt realy like Zona here unless iy got to avout 140 ish and that wont happen so I will take the doggie...and if Pelfrey struggles Mets can call on Figuerora to try and get it done...

Lilly @ Lohse really is a coin flip and now Cubs lost 2 tough games in arow. Both SP did well vs there opponent last year and Lilly seemigly is on track now while Lohse has been so tough at home....Under ? the pen scare me though.......

Also interested in Houston , Boston and Atlanta...not sure about the game in LAA but Garland sure is struggling

Didnt really look at the UMPS much but again they are a tiny part of my decisions...since Emmel is in LAA I know Tuck will say back the Angels...might have to......

Also looking at the over in Philly. Some concerns about Myers recently but I think he bounces back here some and Cain really struggled last start but escaped. Cain has beeb hit hard in 2 of 3 vs Philly and if SF uses the same lineup as yoday can score some...

No idea what to do with Anaheim yet. Absolutely correct in my fear of crossing Emmel. Garland is someone I have only bet against this year. Baltimore not a good day team. A little tempted by a first 5 bet on Baltimore.

Nice commentary SN. This looks like a pivotal game for Maholm in a few ways. He certainly made strides last year and seems to be gaining some momentum this year but, as you mentioned, seems to have road woes. His two road games are interesting to look at, you have one against a pretty good Dodgers offense where he just got beat down and another "bad" outting against the Fish where most of the damage was done in one inning with 2 outs after he had K'd 9 batters already. He gave up 3 singles(two of those infield) and 2 HRs, the last being a grand slam after a mini meltdown that saw an error and HBP.

Anyways, I think we'll learn a lot from how he performs today...though I certainly don't know that I can back him.

I actually may take a stab at the Pirates today. Washington has somehow pieced together a 7-3 record for their last 10, but in their last 7 have only managed a pathetic .209 BA, .572 OPS, and 3 RPG. This has to be considered one of the worst offenses in the league.

I find that the Pirate's offense is a bit underrated and seems to be waking up a little. Guys like Bay, Bautista, and Sanchez are historically big time lefty mashers and have not lived up to that standard this year. Bautista showed a little last night and that could be his 2008 coming out party. Even if Paulino is behind the plate today in place of Doumit, he has hit lefties at a .373 clip over the last 3 years in 225 ABs. Freddy Sanchez has hit .376 over the last 3 with over 400 ABs. Bottom line with this lineup is that they should be hitting lefties a lot closer to the .780ish OPS they showed last year instead of the sub .700 they have year to date.

Additionally the Bucs are hovering around a .800 OPS(6.6 RPG) in day games this year and are averaging about 3.5 RPG more than Washington over the last 7 games. The guys that have history against Chico don't have good ones, but that's not always the most telling stat with such a limited sample size.

So far I have played Seattle first 5 pic and Cubs under 8.5. My logic in the first game is that I looked at Felix in the first 5 last 10 on the road and liked it. My logic on the second is that they are both good pitchers, its a meaningful divisional game and --oh yes Cubs always seem to go under on the road on Saturday.

On a lighter note, am really starting to think Brewers, Baltimore and Cards should all be played first 5 if you play them. The first 2 because of managers and the third because of the closer. With the Cards if you expect a blowout that would not be the case.

Thanks Big Herm.

I really agree with your commentary. Pitt really should be hitting LHP alot better and the fact they can get even some production from 6 through 8 in the order should make a world of dirrence . Recently they had 3 guys in those slots hovering around 175 combined. As you mentioned Pitt has some real under the radar guys vs LHP in Sanchez and Paulino who havent done anything yet. Last year Paulino hit around 407 vs LH in 108 abs and 2 years ago Sanchez hit like 446 vs LHP...incredible numbers. Since they faced Johan they seem to have turned the corner as I said results werent great but I think he threw about 120 pitches in 5.1 innings . Not really weighing the Pitt day splits much cause alot of those games were lopsided so maybe alot of cheap runs involved.

On the Wash side I agree. there winning streak was based on pitching and opposing teams inability to hit more then anything Wash did offensively. They also should hit LHP better but really havenyt shown any signs of breaking out as run producers like Kearns and Pena are in huge funks. 20 -116 is Zimmerman , Johnson and Kearns vs LH so far which is basically your 3-4-5 hitters.

I think Chico pitches better here on that 6 days rest but not sure thats enough. Looking more at the unders although these pens scare me. Wash I thought had a great pen out of the gates but Cordero injury really hurts and there other middle relievers have worked alot .

Anyway its really hard to make a play on this game not all that interested in under 9 and I like some edges for Wash here Pitt just has the improving lineup and what should be better SP except his road woes largely last year seem to be tied to day starts.....so why pay road chalk ?

Not much early getting me excited.....

Yea, it may end up being a no play for me as well...especially with the line jumping on my two books up to around -120 on Pitt. I may just be trying to force one that I shouldn't.

Looking at the Cubs/Cards game now and trying to get a feeling for that one. Lohse is certainly pitching better than past years but has a pretty horrible history vs. Cubs batters. 2 things working in his favor are Ramirez's injury last night that will either hamper him(maybe?) or perhaps keep him out of the game and Soriano's recent return from the DL. Soriano is just 1-10 since coming off the DL and likely not all that comfortable at the plate yet(he K's 3 times in 6 ABs last night). Of course that 1 hit was a dinger last night so maybe my point is invalid. Quite a few other guys have a good history against Lohse as well, but it's a hard read whether the "new" or "old" Lohse will be in effect today.

On the other side, Lilly has been surprisingly effective against STL. Really, outside of Pujols, nobody has had great success against him. As VKyle mentioned STL carries a .252 BA against Lilly, but if you take Encarnacion out of the equation it drops to .215 and if you take Looper's lifetime 2-4 out it drops further to .202. Of course, to be fair, you can take out the SP of STL and you get back to around .213. In any case, Lilly has been good against STL and has been really good over the last 3 years in STL as well(1-0 in 2 starts, .213 BAA, 2.08 ERA).

I guess I lean towards the Cubbies today to bounce back and take one.

Can someone please tell me why I should not bet Boston RL -1.5 +135?

Beckett wants revenge for losing to Shields/Tampa on April 27th.

Not much to see in Toronto. Rolen is out and Konerko back in. Neither team is hitting a lick but pitching well lately. Think Chi has scored 7 times in 4 games this week including some extra innings. Tor the past 2 games LH started vs them lost 1-0 to Lester and won 2-0 vs Buerhle on unearned runs in the 1st inning. Think they had 7 hits combined in those two games.

Danks is throwing well since his last bad start. How bout 21 inn 12 H 2 runs 2bb 16 Ks last 3 .....

In day games these teams are alllowing 5.7 runs combined !

Drake behind the dish calling 65% strikes seems to aid an under but Danks seemed to be horrible in the 3 starts last year Drake called all which went over.......which means I hav to pass on WSox as well...

in NYY Hernandez weakness is LHB and that plays into NYY strength....Moose is tougher on LHB at this point and keys will be Ichiro and Ibanez as they both had success in the past vs Moose but the rest of the lineup really has never seen him....

Schreiber seeems to be a Yank homer as we hvae won the past 7 he umped and Mosse is 5-1 as Yank with him though this goes back quite awhile....Schreiber seems to have a small zone but doesnt seem to have the runs allowed to back it up...this year just under 60% and in the past around 61% but the runs are always limited especially early in games....and think Seattle has a good chunk of unders with him......

Real windy at the Stadium looked like it was blowing in but not really certain yet.......

Thinking Under 8.5 and NYY the most......plus the comments last nite about SEA travel....

Maybe worth a shot, though the reason I wouldn't is that Shields is a bad mofo that just seems to get better and better as he comes into his own.

I would look more at Lohse vs CHI in 2007 then anything else. The rest wouldnt weigh heavily with me....and I think he won all 3 vs Chi last year...havent looked yet at that game though...:shake:

But can Tampa get to Beckett when revenge is on his mind?

Just to be clear. I meant no reason not to take Boston IMO.....

Shields just 2 hit them at home and I doubt he can duplicate that in Fenway while Beckett after a layoff was electric in Tampa K'in 13 which I think he has a better chance of duplicating his game line...plus TB lack of success in Boston now 4-15 past couple seasons and 10-52 last 62 @ Fenway....Upton status??

Exactly...
I doubt Shield can two-hit the BoSox again...
Beckett more likely to continue fanning the Rays hitters...
SN, I saw that stat 4-15 in L19 @ Fenway... nasty!

Yep, he was really good vs the Cubbies last year. He had a really solid 8 IP, scoreless outting and then another 6.1 IP outting where he gave up two runs. The first game he did not face Aramis and had 12 K's, a bit out of character, but there was no Aramais(who went 3-4 the next game against him). The 2nd game he gave up 10 hits in those 6.1 IP. There has been a lot of turnover in that lineup though and at least 3 to 4 guys that did not hit him well are gone.

Good stuff Herm gonna check that game out shortly...

I didnt really play much early Yanks ML and 1st 5 under , Under 138.5 runs today ...

and then really just a bunch of contrarian stuff..small..Jays , Nats , and then parlayed it ..

Think if NYY wins it will be later in the game...

im thinking of pounding the angels ML... Fernando Cabrera coming off DL and Garland got his titties lit last time out and is on the rebound.... Garland not a great pitcher, but I think he holds balti to less then 4. Angels rarely lose 2 in a row at home. Call it a 5-3 game? Thoughts on this one guys?

edit: I guess it's dcab.. my book has it listed wrong.

Started poking around that Cubs- Cards game..Ramirez LISTED as DOUBTFUL.

Last year vs Lohse Cubs went 13 for 29 against him Fuki , Soto , and Cedeno didnt see him...10 for 26 without Ramirez

The good part of that is just 3 BBs to 11Ks and of 13 hits 9 were singles , 3 doubles and a Hr.....

Granted some of these guys see Lohse as BP..DeRosa and Soriano also saw him in back in his AL days....

Last 2 starts Lilly looks more like the pitcher from 2007. He went 12 innings and allowed 8 hits and a couple or runs. Good thing in a sense is Lilly has had some issues vs LHB so far and that is something more easily corrected for a LHP.

An even bigger plus for Lilly is the fact Encarnacion , Wilson and Looper wont be facing him and they went 7-12. Think the rest was 10-52...Glaus 1-8 in his career vs Lilly.

Basically picking a side is extremely tough and Cubbies need a WIN after two tough losses but all things considered it really looks like a coin flip with the concern being Lohse vs the Cubs lineup and Lillys success against STL lineup...

With Lohse continually tough at home and Lilly getting in a groove with a nice track record vs STL seems the UNDER might make most sense...The Cards pen is fairly rested and Marmol did not pitch for Chi yesterday. Both SP appear likely to go 6 probably even 7 innings if they are on. Granted McClelland is calling the game but even with a lower strike % he can frustrate hitters as much as pitchers. Cards at home allowing just 2.8 runs per game...Cubs avg 4.6 away...

7 of 8 with Cards as small home favs have gone UNDER...at home with 8 or 8.5 totals they are 6-3 over this year as alot of them fell on 9 but 42-22 UNDER past 2 + years(so 39-16 last 2 years before this)

Also Ramirez is OUT and Soto may get a day off thinning the Cubs lineup. As pointed out while Soriano did HR yesterday he still is getting back into the groove.

Conditions: Overcast and Breezy Temperature: 52 °
Humidity: 61 Wind: From the West at 24 Gusting to 33 MPH

Not sure how accurate that is at all...

So thinking about theUNDER but 8.5 -120 is not a great price....

Lets see if we can figure out this wind ...:shake:

SN, Great weather trend on the STL UNDER. MLB.com has the wind OUT to RF...2-11 O/U. This trend pushed last night. McClelland has a pretty tight strikezone though.

Haven't really looked into the games much but I'm back on KC/CLE UNDER tonight. Missed 9 and 8.5 already so I had to settle with 8... I am starting to hate bookmaker.

im thinking of pounding the angels ML...

Thanks Short and feel the same way about your work...BOL

Cabrera off the DL what did I miss?

TheO's have not LOST a Cabrera start yet !

HE was the SP in that 3-3 Monday tie game vs CHI. Now the big thing is he got away with walking 7 guys ! The next big thing I see with him is the factonly one time has hepitched more then 6 innings which leaves the pen to rely on. Balt pen was great early but has slowly started to fade and we saw how Sherrill almost blew that game yesterday and the under for alot of us.

In his career he lost 4 of 6 starts made against LAA including 3 of 4 trips out to LA , Cali or Anaheim depending on what they went by. Cabrera was decentin LAA last year but shelled @ Canden vs them

Garland has been the opposite spinning 5 quality starts in 7 career chances and winning all 4 of the home ones . Granted he was pitching in CHI at the time. I think he had success vs Minny as Wsox and it seemed to carry over this year as well while the games he struggled in where also ones he tend to struggle with in the past......Garland in his lone 07 start was real solid @ Balt where he had some trouble in the past.

I just saw Vlad will sit out here.......thats rough.......Emmel Mr Home - UNDER is callin the game........

I guess the good news is Garland is struggling vsRHB more then anything and Os have a foundation of LHB. Thing is Garland was terrible in day games last year

Again though it seems like his day starts came mosty on the road and his home-away splits seem to show a similiar difference.....You go back to 05-06 he was 15-3 in day starts so not sure what to make of it but I assume his day woes were more road woes then anything......

Orioles have hit well vs Garland though but again 2 terrible starts vs them @ Camden...

last year and now this Cabrera much better away and in the day.....

really cant see an angle here....want to take LAA here but Vlads absence really hurts....game actually seems ripe for alot of offense......

In Zona Alou gets the day off and so Hudson which benefit Pelfrey more even as good as Alou's career numbers are.....

SN, Great weather trend on the STL UNDER. MLB.com has the wind OUT to RF...2-11 O/U. This trend pushed last night. McClelland has a pretty tight strikezone though.

Thanks and I think I will play that UNDER. McClelland zone is tight but I think hitters go up there having no clue what a strike actually is which probably makes them expand some . All I think of when I hear McClellands name is the pissed off faces of batters as he calls them out on strikes about 2 minutes after the ball hits the glove...gonna roll with it...if Wash can get back on top I could have a good start to the day if Tor and Nyy hold up...

Kinda changing my mind about the met over ...

Alou and Castillo out. Takes away some solid career abs vs Webb and in place goes Chavez granted he is LHB but no Alou and Easley a RH fills in for the SWH Castillo.....

<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR class=ysprow1 align=right><TD class=yspscores align=left height=16>Career Easley vs. ARI</TD><TD class=yspscores height=16>17</TD><TD class=yspscores height=16>44</TD><TD class=yspscores height=16>1</TD><TD class=yspscores height=16>3</TD><TD class=yspscores height=16>0</TD><TD class=yspscores height=16>0</TD><TD class=yspscores height=16>1</TD><TD class=yspscores height=16>4</TD><TD class=yspscores height=16>5</TD><TD class=yspscores height=16>17</TD><TD class=yspscores height=16>0</TD><TD class=yspscores height=16>0</TD><TD class=yspscores height=16>.068</TD><TD class=yspscores height=16>.180</TD><TD class=yspscores height=16>.136</TD><TD class=yspscores height=16>.316</TD><TD class=yspscores height=16></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Hudson replaced by Ojeda for Zona as well..

thats sucks... i already put in my bet for the over, guess I could've waited to see lineups heh

Alou also hit 372 with 6Hrs in day games on top of being 11-23 vs Webb. Hopefully Chavez gets it going because he is just 2-15 in day ganes this year compared to well above 300 last year think around 330...big reason for NYM poor day splits Ithink is mostly the game being at Shea from what I recall...Easley also hit above 300 in day games but 3-44 lifetime vs Zona and 0-5 vs Webb when RH struggle is really scary.....Ojeda has been solid so far vs RH so maybe not tobig off a loss but still as a pitcher I'll take facing Ojeda......

I am undecided on what to do...I took the Mets +160 earlier and will ride that but big game for Zona as the face Johan tmrw but they do hit LHP well...

Right now made the mets value play and seeing what the best price I can get on under 8.5 @ STL but just 1 unit plays not sure I fuck with anything else..Nats went up 9-5 and while I made all small plays really with them Tor , Nats and even Yanks also had 2 parlays with those 3 teams one 3 teamer and one 2 teamer so I might start off while outside of the 1st 5 inn nyy play...need some outs @ Wash though.....

With ya on the Cubbies under...like this minor trends pointing to it as well...

Also I think I noticed LAA is 1-7 last 8 games Emmel was the UMP and they were recent 1-1 last year (1-2 vs LAA) and 0-3 in 06...so 1-4 past 2 years with Emmel calling ball strikes the HOMER ump doesnt seem to be helping LAA get in the W column......

54°F - Overcast. Cool.Wind: 17mph/NW @ STL

Ramirez and Cedeno get the day off.

Schumaker and Itzuris somewhat suprised they are in over Miles and Barton...

I also liked to take the under in CHC/STL but i've got 8. A couple of bats missing today and glad one of them is Ramirez as he's gotten on base each time hes faced Lohse.. I'm considering the Cards here without him in the lineup but DeRosa is still a .500 hitter vs Lohse so it's not like they're going to miss that much. Fukodome hitting clean up today... haven't a clue if he's done that yet in the bigs but not your normal lineup. just throwing around thoughts.

SN...I just bailed out of the OVER in Zona. MLB.com showing roof is closed and WEBB was 0-8 O/U last year when it was closed.

Good stuff guys..and great stuff shortline with the roof in Zona....

Like I said I didnt do much here..about 1.5 units on that Cards und 8.5 , Mets ML 1unit and played NYM 1.5 runs for a .5 unit and as a hedge decided to play that mets over 8.5 for.75 units.....

Wright gets ahead 3-1 and grounds into a deuce...

Hoping to see a 4-4 game out in the desert.....but really just took the over thinking if I am wrong about NYM I could be wrong about Pelfrey and NYM relief crew especially the weaker guys isnt very good...

Thankfully Wash held on...hit all my early stuff outside of 1st 5 under @ NYY which missed by a run...and went under 8.5 anyway....nice to fuck around with small shit and walk away up +6.5 units.....real nice actually...
