All of a sudden heavily invested in Mississippi State not sure if that was the plan this morning when I woke up. Lol.

So underdogs are now 15-5 ATS in the bowl season. Just a wild figure when you really think about it. You have to think that it starts to swing a little bit as the bowl season continues to progress.

Pinstripe Analysis:

Should be a lot of points today. The Panthers have one the best offensive lines in the country. Averaging over 230 yds rushing and just over 5.4 yards per carry. They have allowed only 9 sacks this year. James Conner will get his fill on the ground which sets up the play action from Peterman to an adequate group of receivers. Panthers are averaging 15.7 yards per pass completion. That is a huge number and simply shows how dominant the run game is. Northwestern defense is above average. They give up a tad over 400 yards per game and look fairly solid against the run at 137 yards per game and 3.7 yards per carry. The backend of the Northwestern defense is a little susceptible giving up over 265 yards per game. Northwestern's defense has been dominated by three offensive rushing attacks this year (Wisconsin, Nebraska and Ohio State). I think it fair to say that the Panther offense can run the ball on anyone and this Northwestern defense is not quite as good as other Big 10 defenses.

Northwestern will move the ball as Pittsburgh's secondary is absolutely putrid. In addition I suspect that Pittsburgh will score plenty causing Northwestern to have to play catch-up. Northwestern averages 393 yds per game on offense (145 RUSH/248 Pass). Justin Jackson is a threat and Thorson has shown he is capable at 58% and 21/8 TD/INT ratio. Austin Carr will have a day against this secondary. The biggest area of concern for NW is that Pittsburgh can stop the run. 110 yards per game by the Pitt D with an average of 3.4 yards per carry. Only gave up over 180 yards twice (Georgia Tech and Syracuse). However, the secondary is terrible giving up over 343 yards per game. The Panthers try to offset that by getting pressure and have done so successfully coming up with 34 sacks this year.

Final Analysis: Bowl season has been very unpredictable but this game should be a shootout. Pittsburgh has scored over 34 points in every game except two this year (Villanova 28 and Miami 28). There is no reason to think that Northwestern will be able to do any better. And Thorson will continue to throw on the secondary.
