Raiders Move to Vegas

P-Unit

Beacon of Calmness
What's your take on yesterday's announcement?

Personally, I think it's stupid. Yes, they are getting a new stadium out of the deal, but the Vegas market won't (can't) support pro sports teams IMO. Nobody that lives in Vegas is actually from Vegas. How will they build support from a fan base? They have a great fan base now and it's too bad they can't work it out in Oakland.

Vegas housing market is also more prone to recession (we saw what happened in 2007-2010). Don't get me wrong, people will go to games, but they won't be buying season tickets like most other markets do. And when we do see a downturn in the economy, I'm fairly positive their attendance will be well below average.

I know why they did it, but I don't like the move. The NFL cares about getting teams into glitzy new stadiums. They don't care about the fans. It's one thing to move a team to LA. It's another to move to Vegas. They are more likely to sell tickets to visiting teams whose fans want to take a road trip to Vegas and watch their team play. I get that part, but that's not enough to sustain the business model IMO.

They expect to sell all the psl's

The hockey team already has 15k season tickets for next year

Think you are undervaluing local interest

Also I imagine casinos will comp a big amount

The luxury boxes won't be an issue

Its 10 games a year, filling it won't be an issue

I feel horrible for fans in the Bay area, but from a business point it was a no brainer for Davis

He's not nfl rich, so a free stadium is a huge factor

Bet they go somewhere else for 2018, just imagine if they reenact blackout policies

The thing with 8 regular season games + 2 exhibition(if those aren't taken away soon anyways...ya know)...

This is a great 'excuse' to go out there for a long weekend and see. your home team playing in Vegas. I already have a couple of buddies planning it if the schedule is an 'away' game there in 2019. It could be quite the interesting dynamic to some of these games to be honest.

Hey, anything is better than LA games last year. Those were frightful. That was like a 'live look-in' at your local library.

1:00 Sunday afternoon in Sept/early Oct in Vegas, probably a few places I'd rather be than a football stadium. Later in the year it would be easier, as you said, if awake.

Be curious to see over the years if they actually integrate live wagering into the stadium

it is smart.....especially the team that is moving....a global fan base

now the hockey team? Not a chance they make it.

but who wouldnt travel to see their team play in LV?

Does the teams value double when they play in a new stadium?

No, but the value will change depending on how much of the stadium the Raiders own and the revenue they get from it.

If the revenue from tickets and sales at the stadium is a relatively small amount of overall income, you'd have to think that the bump in team value from a new stadium isn't what it used to be. But I'm not a billionaire trying to buy an NFL team, either.

You guys underestimate how many Los Angeles folks have moved here and how many will drive in for the weekend games. On a much smaller scale we fully supported an XFL team when we were a much smaller and more transient city. I don't think ticket sales will be a major problem long term.

One problem they may have is that a lot of local NFL fans are used to watching all the games in the book and not live. It could be hard to pull them away from watching all games to watching just one, particularly if they don't currently have an allegiance to the Raiders.

The other aspect of all of this is going to Raiders home games as a fan of the opponent is a legitimate health risk

They did away with that a long time ago, gamble away

More to Kyle's point, rather be in the book than at the game though

Or at the Rhino

really surprised no one has mentioned the hypocrisy of the NFL moving to Vegas, at a near unanimous vote. While suing New Jersey for attempting to legalize sports gambling. I don't get it

This sucks for local Raider fans. As much as I hate Mark Davis and his dumb and dumber look, it was a no brainer for him. He's got LA fans. He's got Bay Area fans. And now he gets to work on a third local fan base as well as a national, and out of the country (Mexico) fan base. But most important to Davis, he gets a free stadium where he doesn't have to put a penny in. Corporate welfare!

And the LA fans and Bay Area fans will show up in LV. I just flew in from Stockton last week and it was only an hour and 15 minute flight. Even shorter from the LA/SD area.

The next few years playing in Oakland will be interesting. There are a lot of pissed off Raider fans and I bet you see record lows for attendance. Just a prediction...

I tell you. People flock to Nashville to watch their NHL or NFL team play here.
Its unbelievable the amount of fans that come here.
It is dicussed over the airwaves here about this is NOT a home field advantage

And Nashville doesn't compare to Vegas.

Similar to what VK said but what most dont realize is that LA is still a Raiders market. Not Rams and certainly not Chargers. Raider fans will have no issues with traveling a 3 1/2 hour drive or a 50 minute flight to go see the team in a brand new stadium. I made at least a trip a year to that shithole in Oakland. Now I can wake up Sunday morning and catch an early flight and be in the parking lot in time for a tailgate, or even get in my car in the morning and be there before gametime. Id be willing to bet that way more than 50% of the ticket sales come from out of state going forward.
