NASCAR Cup Series QuikTrip 500
Sunday, June 7, 2020 at 3 p.m. ET on FOX at Atlanta Motor Speedway

Race Info: Length

The NASCAR Cup Series resumes on Sunday for the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500.

Overall, this race consists in 325 laps. The 325 laps will be broken down into three separate stages.

Stage 1 and 2 will each require 105 laps. Stage 3 concludes upon the completion of the 325th lap.

Race Info: Starting Lineup

As usual, (given the COVID 19-inspired change in what constitutes normal) neither practicing nor qualifying will precede Sunday’s event.

Without practice or qualifying, the starting lineup will be decided via random draw.

Regarding pit-stall selection, its ordering is determined by the finishing positions of last Sunday’s Food City 500, which was the last NASCAR Cup Series race.

Track Info

Sunday’s race will take place at the Atlanta Motor Speedway

This track measures at 1.54 miles and is shaped like an oval.

Its fairly high, 24-degree banks encourage speed as long as drivers properly navigate them to collect momentum for the straightaway.

The event is called the QuikTrip 500 because, after 325 laps, drivers will have accumulated 500 miles.

While the higher banks encourage speed, the Atlanta Motor Speedway is notorious for a surface that undermines driver speed.

Atlanta’s track surface consists in asphalt. It’s the third-oldest surface as it was last paved in 1997.

Given this condition, drivers must be aware that the surface is very abrasive, meaning that it is very rough on a car’s tires.

Tire management is key, such that drivers are more likely to win, at this track, when their tires are fresher later in the race.

Conservation of tire life and well-timed and successful pit stops also grow in importance.

After last year, it was decided that aero ducts would be included in the 2020 race package to accompany the cars’ 550-horsepower engines.

Aero ducts are important in that they are needed to keep air away from the front tires and transfer it to the side of the car.

Toyota Trend

One key trend is that no Toyota driver has won at the Atlanta Motor Speedway since 2013.

This trend exists although a Toyota driver has succeeded at every other active track but one (this exception is Charlotte Motor Speedway).

You should keep this trend in mind in case you are thinking of placing bets on Toyota drivers like Kyle Busch, Martin Truex Jr, Denny Hamlin, and Erik Jones.

Ford Trend

Much better than Toyota drivers, a Ford driver has won the last three races at the Atlanta Motor Speedway.

This trend is crucial for the man who I like most in this race, Kevin Harvick.

Kevin Harvick: Race History

There are other reasons, in addition to the Ford trend, to believe in Kevin Harvick.

He has a strong recent history at this track. In each of the past five years — from 2014 to 2019 — he has led the most laps in this race.

In terms of average finishing position, he has the second best history at the track since 2018 (following Brad Keselowski).

Harvick finished top-five in both races, winning one. He averages a 2.50 finishing position despite averaging a starting position of 10.5.

Since he anyhow tends to come back strong after finishing outside of the top 10 in his previous race, Atlanta is just the track for him.

The Verdict

Given his car, his recent history in Atlanta, and his bounce-bock spot, I think Kevin Harvick will excel on Sunday.

I think he will beat Kyle Busch, a Toyota driver (recall the Toyota trend) with a weaker recent history at this track.

For the above reasons, take advantage of the match-up betting opportunity offered by different sportsbooks like BetOnline and take Harvick over Busch on Sunday.

Best Bet: Kevin Harvick over Kyle Busch At -120 Odds With BetOnline

I was able to get Keslowski over Bowman for almost the exact same price so I went that route as I feel like it's safer.

Just locked mine in this morning.

Harvick -130 over Kyle Busch
Keslowski -136 over Bowman
Blaney -112 over Hamlin
Almirola -115 over Matt DiBenedetto

Hope everyone has a great weekend
