Lewis was expected to be one of the defensive linchpins this season, and his elevated status on the team was reinforced by Alabama's sports information staff, which made him available to the media multiple times this spring.
He stepped into the spotlight in place of Anfernee Jennings, the outside linebacker who was sidelined during the team's 15 off-season practices as he recovered from his own major knee injury.
But now Lewis is gone again.
And defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi will have to make do without him, relying on the likes of Christian Miller, Chris Allen, Jamey Mosley and perhaps even Jarez Parks -- all of whom are capable players in a linebacker corps that should remain one the team's strongest units.
But each of them will have a hard time measuring up to Lewis.
They don't have his raw talent.
And they don't induce the same level of excitement Lewis did.

After being charged with assault for a bar incident, Alabama sophomore linebacker VanDarius Cowan was dismissed from the program Monday (July 9) by head coach Nick Saban.
Saban said Cowan, who appeared in seven games as a true freshman last season, was tossed because of a "violation of team rules." Cowan missed part of spring practice because of academic issues.

KALAMAZOO, MI - After a strong junior year, Western Michigan cornerback Sam Beal positioned himself to be a leader in the Broncos' secondary this season.
WalterFootball.com projected Beal as the No. 2 cornerback in the 2019 draft, after the 6-foot-1, 195-pound Grand Rapids native finished the 2017 season with 26 tackles (3 for loss), 10 pass breakups, one forced fumble and two interceptions, one of which came against No. 3 overall pick Sam Darnold in the Week 1 game at USC.

Maluia started every game at weak-side linebacker for the Cowboys in 2017 and remains the starter heading into this season. Rising sophomore Ryan Gatoloai-Faupula is listed as his backup.
Woods emerged as the Cowboys’ leading rusher last season, averaging 3.5 per carry and 41.1 yards per game. Woods missed the majority of spring camp with the shoulder injury. He finished the spring season as a co-starter with returning junior Kellan Overstreet, who also missed much of camp with a shoulder injury, and rising senior Nico Evans. Woods started at running back for the majority of the 2017 season after spending fall camp at linebacker. He was recruited out of Oregon as an athlete.
Jackson played in 11 games and started in one to accumulate 24 total tackles. His role became more significant in 2017 as Wyoming suffered numerous injuries to its interior defensive line. Jackson, a Wisconsin native, had been listed as the third nose tackle on the depth chart after the spring season.
It took Britain Covey time to get back to football shape, but he’s counting down the days to fall camp

Howard started seven games at quarterback in 2017, throwing for 1,199 yards and eight touchdowns and five interceptions. He completed 56.5 percent of his passes and ran for 181 yards.
Howard split time with Kwadra Griggs, who also returned for the 2018 season. Howard did not throw a pass in the last four games of the season as Griggs took control of the job down the stretch, and Jack Abraham (Northwest Mississippi Community College) was added to the QB room in January.
With Griggs out for the spring, Howard did show improvement — especially in taking care of the ball, after turnovers had plagued him during his first two seasons on campus.

Care to expound?Tyler Taylor LSU LB is an idiot
Sounds like a Fulmer Cup nominee.Drove the getaway car in multiple pawn shop robberies, which involved guns being stolen, in Georgia back in January. He was arrested in May but it just started to leak out so they had to make a move. He is suspended indefinitely.
He was the #3 ILB and would have been first off the bench in the rotation. He looked decent in a few starts last year. Not a major impact at the moment but could be an issue if one of the starters (White/Phillips) is injured.
Fulton’s situation isn’t bullshit, that’s why it hasn’t gained any traction outside of Baton Rouge. He clearly broke the rule and the clearly outlined penalty was handed down.and the NCAA sucks
The Kristian Fulton situation is bullshit
I cannot believe how long this kid has to sit

Probably so, but the rule is the rule and the penalty is the penalty. If they disagreed they should have brought it up before it impacted one of their players.I disagree
other kids sit for way less time for more serious violations
Well, not at QB lol. I'd take 1 year of competency( likely 2, depending )LSU seems like a disaster right now
Well, not at QB lol. I'd take 1 year of competency( likely 2, depending )
It is more so the state of being a highly rated D 1 QB coming out.....these kids ain't waiting
I would have to think they are telling McMillan he is an injury away and Myles takes a RS
But who knows
I won't argue with the coach, but let's see what happens this year and after this class comin inNot just this, the program in general. It feels like it's on it's way down, compared to Arky, Florida, Texas A&M, Tennessee on their way up. Ya'll need a new a coach. You're a QB injury away from being in trouble.
