Former Texas A&M wide receiver Thomas Johnson stabbed and killed a person at random Monday morning in a park according to Dallas police.Johnson, a former four-star recruit in the class of 2012, hasn't been with the team since he left during his freshman year. He allegedly hacked a jogger in a Dallas park with a "large-edged" weapon in a fit of rage.
From the Dallas Morning News:
“It appears Mr. Johnson picked this victim at random. Absolutely random,” Deputy Chief Rob Sherwin said. “He just attacked him. … It’s just very unusual. It’s quite shocking.”
Police also said that Johnson admitted to the murder after he was apprehended. His alleged victim was described as a white male between 25 and 35 years old. The man, who died at a hospital, was one of four people murdered by White Rock Lake on Monday in Dallas, though the attacks don't appear to be connected. Johnson allegedly killed the man as he was running on the White Rock Trail.
Johnson had 30 catches for 339 yards in 2012. He went missing in November of that year and never returned to the team. He was reported missing on November 14 after last being seen on November 12 and found overnight on November 15 of that year.
According to the Morning News, police have said Johnson was angry about his "situation in life."
He remains in jail as he awaits charges for the murder. Johnson was arrested in 2014 after he allegedly stole his aunt's minivan and money from her.
The aunt told police then that Johnson “had been causing problems in the family for a long period of time,” according to an affidavit.
He declined a jailhouse interview with The Dallas Morning News then and was supposed to go into rehab.
Johnson received probation for the crimes, but court records show prosecutors filed papers last month to have his probation revoked because he tested positive for marijuana and failed to meet other conditions, including paying fees.
Johnson was the No. 4 wide receiver in the country in 2012 according to Rivals and the No. 5 prospect in the state of Texas. out of Skyline High School in Dallas.

Wait, 4 people were murdered by that lake yesterday and this is the story?

Sad story all the way around.

Sadder for some than others, starting with the victim, obviously. It happened 200 yards from the daycare my daughter was attending until August. I used to run on that trail myself, although I'd usually turn around a couple hundred yards short of that spot. But not always. It happened right next to a stable and near a little equestrian area for jumping etc. It's supposed to be safe.

He had 3 receptions in the 2012 game at Tuscaloosa where Johnny Football went crazy and A&M won.

Just after that game, he disappeared and his life went down the tubes.

You're talking about the linguistic ambiguity? "Near" would have been a better prepositional choice than "by", I agree.

The man, who died at a hospital, was one of four people murdered by White Rock Lake on Monday in Dallas, though the attacks don't appear to be connected.

That statement seems there should be a pretty large story about what's going on at this lake, like it's Crystal Lake.

He was diagnosed as schizophrenic when he left Texas A&M I believe. I remember following the story at the time. He was a one time Texas commit I believe before flipping. We needed up getting Marcus Johnson to replace him, who scored a TD against OU this past weekend. Crazy the different paths they took and sad all the way around.

lol press

this kid seems to be mentally ill

He's a total lunatic.

After the killing, Johnson walked up to someone (who hadn't seen what happened, obviously) and asked to borrow his phone to call 911. He said someone had a sword sticking out of his head. Then Johnson took the phone guy and another guy to look at the body.

Absolutely horrible. Wow.

The wife of a man who was killed at random while running around White Rock Lake two weeks ago took her own life Sunday, authorities said.

Patti Stevens, 54, a physical therapist, was found dead of suspected suicide at her home in the 200 block of Brazos Lane in Sunnyvale, said Raul Reyna, a spokesman for the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department.

Someone called police for a welfare check on Patti around 2:18 p.m., and sheriff’s deputies arrived at 2:24 p.m., Reyna said. The department is investigating her death. The Dallas County medical examiner’s office said an official cause of death was not available Monday morning.

Her death came a week after she told The Dallas Morning News about her love for Dave and her overwhelming grief.

“Dave was the love of my life and I’m lost without him,” she said through tears Oct. 19. “People need to know that this was a wonderful person going out and doing what he loved to do.”

Police said Dave, 53, an electrical engineer and marathoner, was hacked to death at random by Thomas Linze Johnson, 21, a troubled former Texas A&M football player, who held a machete.
