Ny GIANTS vs CLEVELAND-- BREAKDOWN--

Sammy Meatballs

Sammy Meatballs? Never Heard of Her
I'm back in the hood, been waiting for football to start, been hitting pre season this year, 4-0 so far, lets see if we can nail this game tomorrow---

This game is interesting for me, because I have an angle which I like a lot early on in the season and in pre season--

Today I bet a fairly big bet on Tampa -2 over Patriots. It was clear that one team was ready to play while the other team (PATS conceeded the loss from the start)

The public feels that this is regular season and is capping based on reputation which is not the case in these games----

Seeing the Giants established as a 3 point favorite right away has my attention....

My first step in capping this game was to start gathering information on rosters and playing time. Right away I found out some pertinent information on the Ny Giants roster--

Below is an article I found-- It appears that many of these players are basically not playing, if this is the case then that shows me that the Giants off the Super bowl are probably gonna have a slow camp and not be ready to play any time soon in the pre season--

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -Eli Manning will probably play into the second quarter when the New York Giants face the Cleveland Browns in their second preseason game Monday night.
''I think 25 plays is the word right now,'' Manning said Saturday before practice. ''Hopefully we can go out there and play well. They're a good team, they're a 3-4 defense, which we'll see a lot of in the next three preseason games.''
Anthony Wright, rookie Andre Woodson and David Carr will follow Manning.
The Giants probably won't show too much against the Browns because they play them again Oct. 13 in a regular-season game at Cleveland.
Kicker Lawrence Tynes (knee), linebackers Mathias Kiwanuka (groin) and Jonathan Goff (back), receivers Amani Toomer (knee), Plaxico Burress (ankle), Steve Smith (hamstring), David Tyree (knee) and Mario Manningham (quad) and cornerbacks Sam Madison (sports hernia) and R.W. McQuarters (hip) did not practice Saturday.
Coach Tom Coughlin said they probably would not play Monday.
If there has been a concern for Manning in training camp, it has been the injuries that have sidelined the receivers.
Burress and Toomer are veterans, so at least they know the offense, but Smith is only in his second season and Manningham is a rookie. Meanwhile, Tyree remains on the physically-unable-to-perform list.
''Hopefully they'll get back soon and we'll get some good work together and have everybody in the right spots,'' Manning said. ''Also, we're getting some good work with some of the young guys, and you've seen some guys step up and get better and maybe help us out during the season.''
Domenik Hixon and Sinorice Moss will start against Cleveland. They will be backed up by Michael Jennings, Brandon London, Craphonso Thorpe and D.J. Hall.

Cleveland lost to the Jets 24-20 however lets take a deeper look at that game as many will just look at the Pre season scores. I am looking to see how many punts teams have and how many long drives they are able to sustain in the game. I know that some teams are just not efficient at all and cannot move the ball at all in these pre season games--

Cleveland dominated that game vs the Jets----

They ran 34 more plays than NY Jets--

THey had 28 first downs to 11

Cleve was 10 for 18 on 3rd downs while Jets were 3 for 11 on 3rd downs

Cleveland was hurt by 2 int's by DORSEY and 1 by QUINN----

Cleveland was winning by 10 in the 4th qtr and then Jets returned a Kick return TD and a long Td to CLOWNEY off a pass--

Basically Cleveland did well they controlled the clock for 37 minutes, and won everyting except the game due to the 3 turnovers otherwise they would have won this game easily---

Advantage Giants IMO will be the second half----

I believe it will be David CARR who was a starter for ever, he will be playing vs the 3rd teamers---

Ken DORSEY threw 2 INt's to the JETS of all teams who are not great on D--

One thing I noticed that may be pertinent to the OVer is that the JETS avg passing play vs the JEts was 10.9 yards a play-- THis is very high it is double than the Cleveland 5.5 yard average in that game--

I am sure the Giants will have some opportunities in the passing game to throw downfield in this game.

THe Giants were able to play almost exactly even to Detroit in that game in most statistics---

Perhaps the Giants system and the backups play in the system and know how to just keep the system running. Cleveland on the other hand was winning and then in a matter of 1 qtr DORSEY fucked it all up---

This perhaps suggests to me when capping this game where 3 to 4 qb's will play one team will be more prone to errors, which would likely be Cleveland as was shown last week with 3 int's..

Giants plays and system calls for good Defense and controlling the balll and winning with Defense---

The Giants big disadvantage will not be that BIG IN THIS GAME----

IF Manning and first stringers were going to play 25 plays that is most likely 3 series and a little into the 2nd qtr-------

The backups should be fine in this game--

Of note is the fact we have a team with a traditionally bad Defense in Cleveland getting +2 now vs a team with a great Defense----

Although its preseason in the 1st game it showed-- Giants were much better in that game than Cleveland was.. Cleveland allowed Brett RATLIFF--

After three weeks of camp, the Browns still face questions galore heading into their second preseason game.

Here are some of their issues swirling through the Meadowlands as they take on the host Super Bowl champion Giants tonight.

RUNNING BACK

Issue: Jason Wright and Jerome Harrison are fighting to give coaches a reason to lighten Jamal Lewis' workload.

Harrison (eight carries for 31 yards) ran better than Wright (seven for 17) against the Jets. Wright was the only one to catch a pass (for 12 yards) and has looked smoother as a receiver in camp.

Educated guess: Harrison will finally get a season when he is on the 45-man roster every week. The extra-back role, filled well by Wright in 2007, will be split between him and Harrison. Coordinator Rob Chudzinski will be creative about fitting in the extra backs week to week.

QUARTERBACK

Issue: It'd been nice for Derek Anderson to maintain his 122.9 passer rating against the Jets through autumn, but it is based on five passing attempts. His ascent into stardom remains just a theory. Brady Quinn remains an unfolding mystery.

Educated guess: Anderson will get two to four series tonight. He has been full of confidence in camp and should play well, although he will play without Braylon Edwards for the first time since he took over for Charlie Frye. Quinn will look alert and hungry, even though the reality of being No. 2 has set in.

RECEIVERS

Issue: Romeo Crennel thinks Joe Jurevicius will play again, but the big receiver is weeks, and maybe months, from having a shot. Edwards is down with spike wounds. Kevin Kasper's hamstring turned him into a myth.

Travis Wilson edged Steve Sanders for the start in place of Edwards tonight, but other than tall guys with nice athleticism, who the heck are they? Neither caught a pass in 2007. Kellen Winslow Jr.'s tender hamstring is at least a mild concern.

Educated guess: Chudzinski will take this as a chance for Anderson to cultivate the Donté Stallworth connection and knock rust off Winslow, who missed the Jets game. With Edwards out, ultra-talented rookie Paul Hubbard moves up the depth chart. Sanders, Hubbard and Joshua Cribbs give Brady Quinn interesting targets with the "twos."

OFFENSIVE LINE

Issue: Ryan Tucker is close to returning from his broken hip, but if Tucker faulters, Rex Hadnot needs to prove he won't be a weak link at right guard. Tucker's presence is just as big if there is an injury at tackle. Third-year pro Isaac Sowells could help at tackle, but he needs a breakthrough; you'll see him blocking for Quinn.

Educated guess: The starting line against Dallas on Sept. 7 will include Tucker at right guard. Tucker also would be the No. 3 tackle. If anything happens to left tackle Joe Thomas, right tackle Kevin Shaffer moves to the left side and Tucker plays right tackle, with Hadnot coming off the bench to play guard. If Shaffer gets hurt, Tucker goes to right tackle, and Hadnot is the right guard. Seth McKinney and Lennie Friedman make the team as interior line backups. Sowells sticks as an extra tackle.

DEFENSIVE LINE

Issue: Shaun Rogers missed Friday's practice with apparently minor aches. Corey Williams hasn't shown much. Shaun Smith and Robaire Smith round out the top four and are fine, but the potential depth guys are shaky. Louis Leonard, Ahtyba Rubin, Chase Pittman and Melila Purcell have played a combined four NFL games among them.

Educated guess: Rogers is being nursed through the preseason and will be a force on opening day. Williams will start the year as the fourth man in a rotation, unless he turns a corner soon.

LINEBACKERS

Issues: Until Antwan Peek returns from a knee scope, a third outside backer needs to emerge behind Kamerion Wimbley and Willie McGinest. Shantee Orr has plenty of experience on defense. David McMillan has only a little. Rookie Alex Hall has none.

Educated guess: Hall is too raw to risk exposing against a slick Dallas offense. Orr is more physical and instinctive than McMillan and is the more likely No. 3. With D'Qwell Jackson, Andra Davis and Leon Williams inside, injured rookie Beau Bell won't be missed.

SECONDARY

Issues: Second-year pros Eric Wright and Brandon McDonald have inspired confidence among the brass, but other cover corners in camp have not. The slot corner spot should get adequate play Terry Cousin or Mike Adams, both veterans, but the No. 5 corner for now is Jereme Perry, who would get picked on in a game. It's just a matter of time until another cornerback is brought in. Ty Law isn't out of the question.

'DA' and 'BQ'

An ongoing look at training camp through the eyes of

quarterbacks Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn:

Throughout camp, Brady Quinn's body language never stopped saying, "I'm good enough to start."

Romeo Crennel never stopped saying, directly or indirectly, "Derek Anderson is 'The Man.' "

"He's been improving ever since camp started," Crennel said by way of further cementing Anderson's grip on the job.

• How are Anderson and Quinn getting along?

"It's a good relationship," Crennel said Saturday. "There's no negative part that I see. They work very well together. They're in the classroom together. They try to help each other. That's what you want."

• Anderson won 10 games as a 2007 starter. Quinn played 10 snaps.

"When a guy has proven he can do it, it's hard for jealousies to get in the way," Crennel said. "Let's say they both had won 10 games for us. Then they both felt like they deserved a shot ... that's something different.

"But D.A. has won 10 games. Brady wants to get to the point he can win 10. He's confident that he can, but he's gonna wait his time."

great info meatballs!!

I'm leaning towards the browns with this game. Superbowl winners are also on a bad trend streat ATS in preseason. I just think the Browns will play harder against the SB champs, similar to how Tampa played last night. Given Brady did not play a snap, I doubt he would have been in there that long anyways. I think Romeo should have his team motivated for this meaningless game tonight and we should see a 20-13 type game tonight favoring cleveland. Lets just hope they dont turn it over 3 times again.

i really dont think the browns have many questions in terms of vertical moves up and down the depth chart as that article seemed to have implied ...think theyre pretty much set everywhere except for the 3rd and 4th corners.

one thing to keep mind is both of these coaches' conservative approach to preseason. that coupled with the fact that these two teams meet for real in just a few short weeks, i think we'll be seeing a lot less blitzing, stunts, exotic zones on defense as well as a tame, watered down offenses.. lots of isos and base defenses today. i expect this to be a very dull, boring game that has a great chance to go under the total tonight

Browns will blow them out. Quinn will score on them. Brady can put up 21 points even with the all backups in there for Cleveland. Expect him to play more than last week. Browns have to get RB's in sync and defense will play all starters while Manning is in, keeping it close.

The regular season rematch is in Cleveland and the Giants will try to show very little in this game tonight.

Take the points. Brow:cheers:ns SU.

Copied this from the other site, it is a good trend for tonights game and similar to what I initially stated about fading NAMED teams early that everyone thinks is playing all regulars.

week One of the strongest trend selections that I see is the following :

Game : Cleveland @ NY Giants Monday August 18

Monday night pre-season Dogs are 33-17- 2 ( over 60 % ! ) ATS since 1993

Though the NY Giants are 6-3 ATS @ home last 9 home pre-season games the most important trend is clearly the following >>>
Defending SB champions are only 1-15 ATS on week 2 as Favorites
Under Romeo Crennel , Cleveland has gone 9-3 ATS , actually 9-4 ATS including last week's loss to the NY Jets , but Romeo Crennel did bring his winning atttitude from New England during pre-season.
Results from last 4 years on week 2 for the last 4 SB champs >>
Chi @ Indi L 24-27 P + 3
Minn @ pitt L 10-17 L - 3.5
NO @ NE L 27-37 L - 3.5
NE @ Cinci L 3-31 L - 4
Reminding ourselves of how strong MNF Dogs have been over the last 15 years during pre-season , combined with how poorly the Super Bowl winners have performed as favorites on Week 2 of the pre-season this Cleveland team seems to be the right selection as the Underdog Trend pick of the week and the first such pick of this NFL season !
