November NBA Discussion!!

A few days late, time to start out monthly discussion threads!

I'm a bit behind on the NBA so far this season but have been playing catch-up as of late.

My 'Stons are coming around after an uneven start. They sit at 6-2 with the opening night loss to Chicago and being blown out at home by the Cavs. Mello Yellow was a bit off shooting the ball early on but is absolutely cooking the last few games. He's an all NBA guy imo. Jalen Duren is potentially taking that next step as well. Ausur is also playing excellent basketball. Watch out when Ivey gets back!

Oklahoma City finally lost tonight but are playing the part of defending champs better than most!

The Lakers have the 2nd most wins in the league. Are they shopping LeBron!?

Back to the East... The Chicago Bulls are 6-1. Wow. Six players averaging between 11-23 points. Ole boy Giddey is averaging nearly a triple double at 23-10-9. Nikola solid as always!

You have to feel for the Pacers. Potentially a champ if Hali was healthy and now 1-7 with a murky future.

The Southeast division is the definition of murky. Orlando off to an uneven start as well at 3-5. I know I was slightly lower than most on them, but I still expect a division title from this bunch...

Sticking with Orlando, you know I lament about their offense. To me, the style from last year was antiquated. Last year they averaged 105.4 on offense, 3rd worst in the league. They allowed 104.5, BEST in the league...

Now, this year, they are averaging around 115+ a game but also giving up 115+ (actual differential is .80).

Orlando Magic games have jumped 20 points this year!! But, they are still 4-5 to the over lol. The books knew ahead of time. So, where are the points coming from??

The Magic averaged 11.1 made three's last year.

That has actually dropped to 10.4 so far through 8 games.

They attempt basically the same amount of FG's a game this year (85+).

The added points are from the FT line. Orlando LEADS the NBA in attempted FTs, up EIGHT attempts from last year.

Is that a style change? Or are we seeing the games called differently? More on that next post...

Anyways, discussion all November let's find some winners! Sorry for my tangents but wanted to do some capping and chatting tonight.

Back to my Orlando discussion and let's look at FTs around the league through 10% of the season.

Here's our top 10 for this year and last year!

Actually started this season managing to watch more games than usual this time of the year... :)
I don't agree about the Pacers. Both that they could have been candidates and that tanking can be bad for them. This was clearly a year off for them and getting nice pick can truly make them legit. Last year, it was kind of Cinderella story. Totally different style of play, but they reminded me Memphis (Grit and Grind) - team that was very hard to play against and that could win any series, but still not championship caliber...
Been watching mostly Lakers and Portland, so didn't see as much EC, but I think Sixers management has the toughest job right now. Do they try to trade Embid and somehow get read of PG or do they try to keep this core and hope everyone will be healthy post season and it will be enough to make to NBA Finals...
Edgecombe is one of the feel good stories of this season I think. Both his level of play and his life story and what he does for his community - maybe Sixers should focus on him...
Wonder what Cavs can do when finally healthy...
Still think that Knicks didn't gain anything by swapping Thibs for Brown...

But overall, the feeling is that difference between the Conferences just got bigger... Thunder look like they can try and get most wins in regular season before doing b2b on the title. They are one year wiser and still hungry... Spurs maybe the biggest surprise so far in the West with Wemby leading this team straight to probable H2H match up with SGA for MVP...
Lakers prove that there is a future after LeBron retires (hopefully this is his last season)...
I think that Portland play one of the most fun to watch style of play and that they remind me a lot of Thunder style of play. Pressure, fast basketball and so on... If Portland finish Top 6 in the West, Splitter must be considered for COY award...

All I said about the Pacers is that they were a healthy Hali away from an NBA championship.

This is true.

They had a shot, in Game 7, versus the beginning of the OKC dynasty.

So, I think we have mixed signals.

I don't think they would have been as good this year. Maybe the early draft pick pays off in a few years!

Sixets should focus on Maxey and Edge. I love JoJo but he's not there enough to be a true playoff factor. If someone wants to take PG, trade him!

Agree on the Knicks. Yes, Thib wears down the players and that's tough in today's NBA. But, Brown isn't an upgrade.

Thunder are just starting a 7-10 year run. Only egos can get in the way.

I don't see the Spurs as a huge surprise. The talent is quite something and Wemby is staying healthy -- which will always the key for his career.

I haven't seen Portland once this year. I will take a peek at them per your post. Very nice balance statistically so far!

Eight games tonight..

Chicago with a measuring stick game at Cleveland. Let's see what these Bulls are made of !

Nola and SA should be fun.

Most everything else is pretty pedestrian but I'm going to be watching as much as possible alongside CFB tonight.

Lets take a look at Philly and Miami tempo lately. They move the ball up and down the court, Joel is washed anyway coming from a celts fan but miami especially without bam playing they run and gun

1st half overs still not caught on yet but these books...that will change..why is jalen brown rpas and point total a little low that will change eventually

One of NBA greatest, Lenny Wilkens died last night. Really enjoyed reading about him an article in Hebrew. I knew he was a great coach, but surprised to learn what a great basketball player and extraordinary man he was...
RIP...

He was a pioneer, no doubt.

Helluva player and coach.

Detroit is leading the East at 11-2 right now and have won 9 straight.

The last two wins have been even sweeter since they were missing Cade, Duren and Ausur Thompson!

Daniss Jenkins has been a huge surprise the last week or so. His buzzer beater propelled Detroit to overtime a week ago in a huge comeback. With Cade out since then, he's played damn good in beating the Bulls and Sixers.

B-ball Paul (Reed) and Duncan Robinson have taken on more offense with the injuries.

Looks like Duren may be back tonight.

Ausur and Mellow Yellow are still questionable.

Interesting game tonight between Detroit @ Atlanta, where both teams are coming in hot.

Is this a spot to bet against Atlanta? They're coming back from a west coast RT, last played at Suns on Sunday night, off yesterday, play tonight, then hit the road again to the Spurs.

Both teams are hot and putting numbers up like crazy too.

I'll get a quick write-up after the sun goes down (more fall cleanup).

That was quite a road trip for the Hawks.

I wouldn't say they should be too tired, but they are back on the road for a few after.

League has gotten so hard to follow this year, seems like every day multiple star players are going on the shelf for 2-4 weeks. Yesterday Wemby Morant, today Giannis, Sabonis again. I signed up for a roto league this year and I'm regretting it. Five of my 13 guys are eligible for IR.

Buddy of mine plays in one where you basically take one performance a week from each guy.

Now, you have to make a decision when to take that but at least that helps with load management.

Man...

Timing is everything...

Memphis and Spurs pregame was 234.

At half score was 49-47.

Boxscore screaming 2h over.

Reset is 206.5.

One min until 2h I'm trying to bet it at 203.5. I get bumped off twice.

FOUR game mins later we're at 219.5 WTF.

32 points in 4:46 to start the 3rd.

Man o man, what a bummer.

77 in the 3rd.

Ugh.

I hate capping a boxscore at half to a tee, and finding value and simply missing it.

My own fault being slow to the trigger.

Read Kerr on ESPN site saying pace has never been faster in NBA. And that's leading to more soft tissue injuries like calves. His fix is 72 games but he knows it will never happen

How bad are the Pacers when they're a slight dog at home to the Hornets?

Bulls -2.5 @ Trailblazers looks intriguing. I've watched the second half of the Pho/Por last night and they look horrible. Reminds me a bunch of guys playing p/u games at the local 24 Hour Fitness back in the day!

Line was Detroit -1 all day, then got hit late in the day to -2.5. Didn't matter though :)
Yeah once Ausur and Cade were deemed good to go it pushed.

Ausur is so special.

Guy has 6 points and 2-3 boards and simply changed the game twice in the 2h.

Pacers are bad. So sad to see, kinda.

Yeah I had a middle out in PDX so I was consumed with the game. They looked unorganized.

Not next, he's there.

Mellow yellow will miss 10-15 games a year with injuries but I'll take that for playoffs
Last season I was looking into his cards for investment no brainer..kid can ball very versatile and is bigger then your average guard...he is a dog too which helps but humble too

Detroit continues to crush!

Twelve straight.

Road game at Indy Monday.

NBA Cup at Boston on Wednesday.

Then home for NBA Cup Orlando on Friday.

Jaden Ivey came back tonight!

I do think we see a trade at some point. Hopefully nothing stupid. (Anthony Davis can come here but needs to be cheap).

Detroit been looking great so far! Didn't see any game, but watched few highlights and they look much more mature than before I think. Maybe they ready for some kind of playoff run...

Absolutely.

They got their feet wet last year.

Fun team and they play hard each night!

I expect a series win.

Detroit going for that franchise record 14th straight tomorrow...

@ Boston 5:00 Eastern.

Both previous 13 game streaks ended in 'Ships.

Luka vs Mavs. It’s either gonna be too much for his emotions and he’ll shoot like shit, or he’s gonna go God mode tonight

I think his game back in Dallas will for sure be emotional. Better than tonight is the God mode game?

Props have taken over wether u like or not definitely has thrown a wrench in things over the last few years.on that note take in mind on assists parlays, find the match up, keep an eye on players that deal the rock and try to cash..fun when your dialed in on matchups # of minutes and who the team is playing..I think maxey could play the entire game and drop 90 on someone he leads the league in minutes...he might have 4 assists and 90...lol

Nice win. He was himself and Reeves was phenomenal.
