NOLA

Pretty much a regular
1-2 (+0.25)

so now we head to Avondale, LA for the inaugural race there. All i can find on the test in March is this. Numbers are up at 5d if interested. Obviously we don't have much to go on, but let's recap a little from Barber.

-- raised mugs to Montoya for winning his first street course race in 15 yrs. In my thread last week, i said he could certainly improve in this regard, and i am half ass wondering if he was listening, lol. Penske dominated qualifying with the first four positions and finished 1,2,4 +5. Will this domination continue? Entirely possible is my response at this time. For the history buffs out there, in 1994 Penske's trio of Unser Jr, Fittipaldi + Paul Tracy won 12 of the 16 races and finished 1, 2 + 3 in the points. Some are already saying this is a done deal, but a part of me wonders how all these egos will mesh during the year. And i would like to add that i think Power could screw all this up himself. There is hard racing, and then there is dirty racing. Power will punt anybody into the wall to get a win, and Montoya made a nice recovery to avoid such a fate last Sunday. Mark this down going forward is all i am going to say.

-- if you watched last week, you know that the new aero kits are going to help shatter track records, but the durability is for the birds. Not sure how we are going to handicap this going forward, but the debris flying was insane. A spectator was also injured, so let's hope she makes a full recovery. As also mentioned in that article, Dixon doesn't seem overly concerned, so i shouldn't be either, right? We'll see.

--Dixon got bit by the pit stop demons ( friggin air jack) and am looking for a recovery, but will not bite on the +775

-- Kimball should have let Rahal pass, and i didn't like the penalty assessed to Rahal, thought it was bullshit.

-- Kanaan with a really quiet slid performance to finish 3rd. Does he have a little more to compete with the Penske team?? You can stab at the +3300 and find out, but i'm not.

-- so Simona is back for another race ( surprise, surprise....but they still won't match her up with anyone, you watch) Everyone seems to love her, and i do mean everyone, but i'm not in that camp. Sure it is fair to say she has been with inferior teams, but 3 tops 5's and 14 top 10's in 67 career races is what it is. Best bet on the board is they won't post her.

-- late new today, and it is huge in my opinion....so what exactly in the hell did Chevy do?? Unspecified component change which i want to hear more about.

more in a little bit...

this open wheel here?

yes sir. USF2000, Pro Mazda and Indy Cars, but no Light cars this weekend. If i am thinking right, you live in this part of the world. You should go, it is a top notch facility and the drivers rave about this track like they do Barber...and it should be a good show. I'll ramble on later about some more thoughts, but go ahead and put me on Kanaan +100 Hinch, they have that ass backwards. I must say i am surprised they put matchups up this early, i thought they would wait like they did last year for the first run at the Grand Prix at Indy.

honestly can't say that i do, but i'll see what i can find. I love the history of indy cars. I'll be going to Barber in a few weeks and next year i'm going to the 100th running of the indy 500. That will be awesome.

Thanks Fondy, just make them for beer money, still a lot of learning to go this year.

-- starting to think Munoz is going to be an oval specialist only. In 14 road/street courses so far in his career, his avg finish is 13.9 (only 5 of the 14 were top 10's) It's not like Marco is the bastion of consistency, but i think the Marco -125 is attractive versus him. I'll pass for now solely because of his next to last place effort here in testing, and i'll regret it.

-- Filippi - qualified 19th at Barber, but brought it home in 9th (even with front wing damage) I'm not going to be long winded about him because i doubt we'll see him posted, but he is on my radar. Be advised he did not test here in March, so keep that in mind if he does surface. He has promise this year on the streets imo.

-- i put .02 on Rahal at +6000 because i am an idiot. I thought he was fast last week, tested great here (5th) and if not for some bad breaks last Sunday, might have been in the mix. Stranger things have happened, but it would probably take the stars aligning like they did for Huertas last year.

let's see how they practice on Friday and we'll go from there....

so the skies open up and lightning ruins qualifying so they're assembling the starting grid by points. I read this, and decided to watch it ( had recorded it) just to try and see if I could pick up any useful info, and I sure am glad I did. Montoya and Helio are lost while Pagenaud, Bourdais and Kanaan are all good mudders (and they're going to be on rain tires after glancing at the radar)

Pagenuad +100 Montoya - Montoya said his car was "miles off on Friday, but was much more competitive yesterday". I'm calling bullshit and the time sheets and him sliding off the track yesterday in the rain back me up. Pagenaud has been consistently up front.

Bourdais +135 Helio - Bourdais was fastest in the rain and Helio is so lost in the woods we should all be looking for bread crumbs while we are calling out his name during the search. Not that it matters, but race control made a really bad call by assessing Bourdais a penalty during the scuttled qualifying. Terrible, terrible call.

could probably fire off a few more, but these are the ones that stick out. I don't really care to expose myself more than that considering the weather conditions. I'll check back and see if they add any other matchups just in case. Good luck with whatever you have on the board today.
