Pretty much a regular
Seahawks at Rams Thread

I've tried my best to withhold my thoughts regarding the Rams. Ha! If you're at all thinking of taking them +4 please give me 1 good reason why besides them beating Seattle last year with 2 gimmick plays.
I have not followed Seattle's preseason so anyone with input regarding them would be appreciated.
I just can't see how St Louis' oline doesn't get overwhelmed. Seattle's defensive backfield is twiCE as good as the Rams WRs. Personally, I think the Rams get embarrassed Sunday. I can see 27-10. Don't know how the Rams score so feel free to share how they break the plane.

You know what's funny? I've been banned twice from Rams websites because of my writeups regarding the 10 year dry spell. Pardon me, their 21 of 25 years of losing years. Brutal brutal brutal

I don't think I have ever had a winning week in the NFL week one, so I'll tread lightly

Wise, I for one am not going to lay 4 pts on the road the first game of the season. It would be Rams or nothing in that one for me.

I think you just made an argument for a Seahawks play

I mean, we could look at past performances regarding home team getting points and road teams like Seattle not playing well but this Rams team is poorly coached.
They don't block, they don't stop the run. They haven't figured out how to score. They have figured out however, how to stop themselves from scoring with penalties. This is an ignorant team until they show otherwise.
play like this vs a Seattle team that is just the opposite and you have a mismatch.

Will be on the patriots in many ways on Thursday. Probably will have 20 units in play between side/TT and props.

Are you guys really playing Pats hard because they've been disrespected? I don't know about that. Brady looks like he's emotionally spent already and the season hasn't even started. Pitt catching 7 full points is a lot. I know they don't have Bell but Deangelo is a capable back.

I'll say this about Pittsburgh. They will run that play clock all the way down on every snap. If they have success, Brady will have less time on the field than normal. I don't see a play either way. GL

-Steelers missing 2 of 3 top weapons and best O lineman
-Brady in obvious FU mode and looking to stick it in people's asses
-Home team 11-1 SU last 12 NFL openers...only loss was Giants in 2012 on a Wednesday
-Pats raising the banner, place will be playoff style electric

Haven't decided if Im laying the 6.5/7 but I'll have them teased and MLP'd multiple times.

Obviously totally different teams but last year Green Bay was a sexy dog on Opening night and everyone was on them....line went from 6.5 to 4.5 and Seattle crushed their ass

Disrespected? No.

It doesn't matter what anyone outside of the organization thinks of the pats... all that matters is what the pats think the rest of the world thinks about the pats... there is a slight difference... the pats are going to unleash and BB isn't going to lay his foot off the gas if it gets to that point. That's always nice to have when laying points...

The pats are looked as villains to the majority of people and they have thrived off of that.....the team has looked vanilla all preseason and been very hush hush and thats by design... its an us against the world mentality and Brady & BB with extra motivation is scary.

aside from that... the steelers defense is young and although it should be better than last year... i dont think we see it in week 1

Will Oakland be able to pressure Dalton at all & who will cover AJ? Not a fan of 3.5 but maybe I'll buy the hook.

Lots of ugly home dogs this week that could surprise some folks. I have feeling week 1 is going to be filled with "upsets" that won't look like upsets 8 weeks from now.

As for the bigger sized lines, I'm looking for the G-Men to go into Dallas and win su. Lots of question marks in the DAL run game, and I think Eli will pick apart this secondary.

i won't be fading the raiders at all this season. Lots of talent there and finally some real belief and desire to win games

I hope you're right but the Giants are a mess. No consistency at all in the o-line. Injuries everywhere. And they are notorious for poor starts.

think?

I worry about the time and travel

they going early or anything?

look at the 9ers roster and you'll feel better about it. Plus, their OL is going to have trouble keeping the QB off his ass if he tries to stay in the pocket. I think Kaep is a fraud though, so perhaps I'm biased in that regard. No Gore, No good WR's, Kaep sucks, and half the defense is gone. I feel pretty good about it...

That's what I heard on NFL radio yesterday as well but it takes more than belief & desire. If that was the case I'd be hitting porn stars 24/7

i agree with nbafan. im all about raiders and jags to be respectable this year, and look to bet them based on some value we'll get just because they are the raiders and the jags so they "always suck." lots of talent on those 2 squads. and jacksonville actually has some home field advantage this time of year when its 98 degrees

going to be a very wet night in Foxborough,,,wouldn't be surprised if that have to stop/delay (lightning) at some point...

:shake: heavy enough to impact a passing game? let us know what you see as game time approaches. thanks.

Jags are going to be a decent team if Bortles plays decent. I kinda like what they are doing there. Over 5.5 is one of my favorite RSW totals. Titans will be terrible unless Mariota is something really special.

No Love for the over tonight? Two elite offenses and both teams with major ? on defense.

Pittsburgh @ New England

Thursday night's NFL opener has a Vegas total of 51.5 points, tied with Giants-Cowboys for second highest of Week 1. It's a game to target in fantasy lineup decisions, using the high-scoring projection as a tiebreaker. ... The Patriots' most likely plan of attack is a pass-first approach that masks New England's run-game deficiency and exploits a Pittsburgh defense that arguably possesses the NFL's worst combination of pass rushers and defensive backs. With LeGarrette Blount on suspension, the Pats' four remaining tailbacks are primarily passing-game types: Dion Lewis, Brandon Bolden, James White, and Travaris Cadet. Pittsburgh's best outside rusher is 37-year-old James Harrison, while CBs Cortez Allen and William Yag form a sorry duo on the perimeter. Pro Football Focus graded Steelers FS Mike Mitchell 71st among 87 qualifying safeties in pass coverage last season. The supposed heir apparent to now-retired Troy Polamalu, SS Shamarko Thomas played so poorly this August that first-year DC Keith Butler benched him for 33-year-old journeyman special teamer Will Allen. His suspension expunged, "Angry" Tom Brady is set up for a big game. As noted by NFL Network's Scott Hanson, Brady has a 13:0 TD-to-INT ratio and 124.1 passer rating in four career meetings with the Mike Tomlin-coached Steelers. ... Dion Lewis is a hot name in fantasy circles, but I'm avoiding Patriots running backs entirely in Week 1 because I simply don't know how much each will play. Lewis, White, and Cadet all have very similar skill sets, while Bolden is arguably the best interior runner of the group. There is very little usage clarity in this backfield. A wait-and-see approach is advised.

A "two-gap" 3-4 team for seemingly forever under Dick LeBeau, the Steelers have installed more Tampa-2 concepts under Butler, with coach Mike Tomlin taking on a bigger defensive role. Essentially a bend-but-don't break scheme, the Tampa 2 has long been vulnerable to tight ends in the middle of the field. Rob Gronkowski should beast against a Steelers team that last year allowed the tenth-most fantasy points to tight ends, and may now be even softer in the areas where Gronk mostly works. ... Pittsburgh's top cover corner is slot CB Brandon Boykin, acquired from Philadelphia in an offseason trade. With perimeter wideout Brandon LaFell on PUP, look for the Pats to use Danny Amendola and Julian Edelman interchangeably as their top-two receivers, aligning outside and in the slot. Boykin can be stingy, but I still expect enough passing volume from New England for Edelman to pay off as a WR2, and for Amendola to at least be worth consideration as a WR3/flex in PPR leagues. My guess is Amendola ends up with a few more slot snaps than Edelman, who functions better outside. ... The Pats' third receiver will likely be third-year disappointment Aaron Dobson, a toolsy-but-inconsistent prospect whose playing time is uncertain after an up-and-down preseason. ... The Patriots' receiver shortage should translate to heavy early-season usage for No. 2 TE Scott Chandler, who caught an 18-yard touchdown from Brady on a fade ball in New England's third preseason game. If you're for some reason desperate for a Week 1 tight end streamer, give Chandler a long look. 30-year-old Chandler stands 6-foot-7, 270 and could be a bigger part of the offense than most expect.

Tuesday Update: Longtime Steelers beat reporter Ed Bouchette stated in a Tuesday fan chat that Boykin is "probably" not among Pittsburgh's top-three cornerbacks entering Week 1. This would be a surprise and obviously a huge disappointment after the Steelers traded for Boykin at the start of camp. If Boykin is indeed not a staple in Pittsburgh's three-cornerback sets, my guess is we'll see William Yag in the slot in nickel packages, with Cortez Allen and Antwon Blake manning the perimeter. I don't think the adjusted cornerback alignment makes a big fantasy impact. Pretty much all the Patriots' pass catchers have plus matchups on Thursday night.

A once-juggernaut Pittsburgh offense has been dealt several crippling blows. Not only will all-purpose steam engine Le'Veon Bell be in street clothes Thursday night, field-stretching difference maker Martavis Bryant was slapped with a four-game suspension and All-Pro C Maurkice Pouncey fractured his left fibula on August 23. New England is favored by seven, setting Pittsburgh's team total at just over 22 points. It is an aggressive projection seeing as OC Todd Haley's 2014 offense -- with Le'Veon and Pouncey -- managed 20.7 points per game before Martavis entered the lineup in Week 7, compared a 31.2-point average in Bryant's ten appearances. The Steelers ranked 26th in passing offense without Bryant, yet went on to finish second in the league. These losses render Ben Roethlisberger much more of a low-end QB1 than the top-end starter he would've been with a full supporting cast. From a matchup standpoint, working in Ben's favor is a suspect Pats secondary that's gone from starting Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner on the corners to second-year UDFA Malcolm Butler and 30-year-old Tarell Brown, who is on his third team in three seasons. ... To replace Le'Veon, the Steelers will turn to 32-year-old DeAngelo Williams, who is coming off an injury-plagued campaign wherein Williams averaged 3.53 yards per carry in six starts. The Steelers may also work scatback Dri Archer and perhaps FB/RB/TE Will Johnson into the mix. Williams is worth a long look as a low-end RB2/flex on pure opportunity, but his matchup isn't particularly attractive, either. The Patriots played top-nine run defense in 2014 and fortified their front seven this offseason, using a first-round pick on 6'2/319-pound plugger Malcom Brown, signing underrated LE Jabaal Sheard, and getting back RE Chandler Jones, DT Dominique Easley, and WLB Jerod Mayo, who last season combined to miss 21 games.

Minus Bell and Bryant, the Steelers' offense figures to flow through 2014 NFL receptions leader Antonio Brown, who's ranked fourth and second in the NFL in targets the past two years while catching five-plus passes for 50-plus yards in a league-record 33 straight games. With Le'Veon nursing a knee injury in January's playoff loss to Baltimore, Brown was targeted a whopping 14 times, securing nine for 117 yards. In two career meetings with Bill Belichick's defense, Brown has posted stat lines of 9-67-1 on 15 targets (2011), and 5-71-1 on nine looks (2013). Despite Belichick's reputation for shutting down the opposition's top weapon, Brown should see enough volume to compensate for any derailment of his efficiency. The Patriots simply don't have the defensive-back personnel to stymie Brown's video-game quickness and change of direction. ... Markus Wheaton is an opportunity-based WR3 option in Foxboro. But keep in mind Wheaton's situation was similar before Martavis' emergence last year. He flopped in the role, securing just 24-of-39 targets for 277 scoreless yards in the first six games, "good" for a four-catch, 46.2-yard average. Wheaton reportedly looked improved in his third NFL training camp, but starting him in Week 1 requires a leap of faith. ... If you believe Belichick will slow down Brown and aren't a Wheaton believer, Heath Miller might interest you as a low-end TE1. Miller has caught at least four balls in each of his last five Patriots meetings and is the type of skill player Belichick likely won't game plan to stop. ... After rookie Sammie Coates' disappointing August, Roethlisberger confirmed the Steelers will open the season with Darrius Heyward-Bey in the third receiver role. A stone-handed special teamer at this stage of his career, DHB is safe to ignore everywhere.

Score Prediction: Patriots 30, Steelers 21

That's what I heard on NFL radio yesterday as well but it takes more than belief & desire. If that was the case I'd be hitting porn stars 24/7

this makes no sense lol

i think you missed the part where i said the raiders have talent ;)

:shake: heavy enough to impact a passing game? let us know what you see as game time approaches. thanks.

Chance of precip around 60-70% between 8-9. I'm going with no score in first 6:30. Not unreasonable for neither team to score in perfect conditions in their opening drives of the season, will definitely take my chances with this in a possible monsoon.

I did miss that part & to answer your question I don't believe humidity has anything to do with ball pressure, but I'm no physicist.

Question marks on who may get the ball, yes, but I don't think their yardage totals will miss by much without Murray. He was a product of that OL

Cardinals look VERY attractive at under 3

Surprised you're with me in that thought, been down on Brees for a while and now have turned the corner with Payton. Total lack of weapons, basically Cooks and Coleman are gonna have to be great for them to move the ball through the air. Not sold on Ingram despite the huge year in 2015 and Spiller is iffy at best. Loved ARI last year until Palmer went down, that defense will still be able to blitz, the HFA there is underrated and Arians is the fucking man

Skol Vikes btw. they are going to fucking pound SF on Monday night.

look at the 9ers roster and you'll feel better about it.

Don't see Gore as a big loss and think IND banking on him is a big mistake. Kap has never been that good throwing the ball, but I think this year he'll be better without the pressure of trying to be a top-tier QB. If you remember, it was running that got him to the SB and I don't think Q or Davis are done. Long distance WR is a concern, but when could Kap really make that throw anyway? Hyde is serviceable, Bush seems healthy and can still be dynamic when he's on the field. No reason to think Dawson can't kick FGs and I think the MIN offense is about as overrated as anyone. Let's see Teddy go win one on the road in a latenight game where the home team always seems to win. Not sure he'll do it

Thursday Night: Soggy Season Opener Possible in New England

The wettest game of the week may be Thursday night's game in Foxborough, Massachusetts, when the Superbowl Champion New England Patriots host the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The highly anticipated game is set to kick off at 8:30 p.m. EDT, but it may do so in the rain.
"The NFL Season Opener could feature unsettled weather as a cold front approaches New England from the west," AccuWeather Meteorologist Brian Edwards said.
"Showers and thunderstorms will become more widespread throughout the afternoon and evening hours across central and southern New England, allowing temperatures to cool to around 68 F by kickoff," Edwards continued.

As long as there is no wind it doesn't matter. Wet weather should not be the reason you take an UNDER.

Not one qb I ever met said, bring on the rain. No qb likes throwing a wet football.

I'm ok with the occasional over in wet conditions but this sounds like pretty harsh t-storms tonight, I can't envision massive stats from skill players being the reason for over more than turnovers and short fields. 99% positive I'm sitting Brady in fantasy now when this matchup is so juicy for him...but thunder and lightning? No thanks.

Has anyone bet the steez( besides gurv and mogo)

Can someone post the sport insight numbers?, Tia
