NBA ML dogs 10/30-11/3

redbearde

Pretty much a regular
Unfortunately, I'm getting into it late, so I got a shitline, but I do like Utah over GSW tonight.

Jazz +136

red have you always bet on NBA dog ml's in years past.

This'll be the 4th year since I started fooling around with it. Macdamn's experience of getting assrammed in January has been my experience, too. I'll probably pretty much stop with the ML dogs in late december, and take up a lot more spreads and unders.

well, more in a relative sense. I did well to so-so last year being a lot more selective...until April...then the moneymaking opportunities skyrocketed.

Lakers +214

It could happen, but with Kobe being half-assed, I'm not sure I can back the lakers til they bench him. I'm not saying he's bad, but I do think unless he gets traded, he'll be more of a detriment to that team than a benefit. It'll be kobe vs the world again, and when the rest of the team loses their competitive cohesion (however little they have now), they just won't be able to compete with other Association teams.

ML dogs: 1-0, +1.36 units
Spreads: 0-1, -1.12 units

late night was nice. Wish I'da left the under alone...

If I was going to fade the Spurs, it'd be in a situation like this with the Spurs on a B2B off a surprisingly competitive game last night. Timmy and Tony both played a bit over 35 minutes, so maybe they're slightly tired, but I wouldn't place a wager on that - Manu only played 29 minutes, and no one else came close. Portland didn't play great defense, by any means, and I suspect that the Spurs will settle down and win with 90pts........generally.......after tonight.

Yi Jianlian is starting at power forward tonight for the bucks. Is it okay to start giggling about this? I want to see Bogut or him try to guard Dwight Howard...that should be quaint...

I'm considering Chicago on the ML this eve, and I also like the Mavs over the Cavs...and unless Denver has started playing defense, over 6:1 should be a decent shot with the sonics. Thing is, there are some questions in my mind about Seattle keeping up with their scoring.

Mavs -4 (+110)

only way the Mavs don't win this, and handily, is if their hearts and minds are still broken and bloody from going out in round 1 last year. Daniel Gibson is apparently gong to play, but Simmons and Snow are doubtful, and Varejao is piddling with a contract issue. I don't like Josh Howard being out, but I do like Dampier being out...

Should be a fun game - someday...sometime..........Cleveland might want to pick up a fucking point guard.

Orlando looks to me like they're the same team as last year. Milwaukee, otoh, I'm not sure what the fuck they did by adding Yi Jianlian to the lineup except pick up an international and local chinese following. Maybe they'll sell more tickets. Bell is gone. Mo Williams and Mike Redd don't suck, but Nelson just re-signed his contract, and Orlando should be re-energized for another charge toward the playoffs while the Bucks must be wondering wtf they're going to do now. Bogut wants to play with a wrist that must interfere with his jerking off...Is Villanueva going to tolerate coming off the bench?

I think Orlando wins. Maybe by 5. maybe by 15. shrug.

i think orlando got a lot better..
A great wing player.. a new coach.. this team should be more improved imo!

Just to let you know red, Bucks matched, Bell is still with Milwaukee, although hes not very happy about it.

Bulls put em into OT....that says to me I shoulda bet the Bulls. I guess that's what I get for not having the balls to do it. The rest look like good no plays. There was no value in playing the Pacers, the Cavs looked so good to me that I played the Mavs on the spread, and Orlando just crushed the Bucks.
Orlando was fuckin stout tonight. Don't let that close 19pt deficit fool ya; Orlando just quit playing when they got up by about 30...

Honestly, I think the problems at Milwaukee remain the same. They have big guys in the center who are extremely unreliable at both ends. Mike Redd is going to have All Star numbers again this year, but it'll be as much because his team is useless as it is because he's great (which he is). Look for good teams to score 10-15 more than usual at least against them.

dude....Jefferson just strained something while pounding his chest...jeez, he's so injury prone anyway...The Nets look pretty stout against the young guns of Chicago. The Bulls, btw, are playing some very aggressive defense, but they overcame the big deficit because of Big Shot Ben (not wallace).

The Mavs, as expected completely embarrassed the Cavs. Without Josh Howard. Now, I know I'm an idiot, but I think Howard is absolutely key to that offense against most teams. It's a different shaped key than say, big Z is to Cleveland, but much of the offense goes through him...sort of like a point forward from the corner of the FT line. Nonetheless, the Cavs really are a bad team. They miss open 3s. They have too many holes on defense. Z is about the most reliable fucker there. Note, I said reliable. Obviously Lebron is brilliant, but he's not mr clutch. Daniel Gibson is still young, though he's an awesome shooter...

what they really need is a PG.... a SG Gibson, F Lebron, F Gooden, and C Zydrunas. But they don't have one. They will struggle all year against average to good teams. And they will get shelled by very good teams like the Mavs. Again, I say, they need a fuckin PG. Or they need to run like their asses are on fire so Lebron can put moves on more 1v1s out there...those guys can play speedy garbage ball pretty well. But that ain't going to happen until they swap coaches.

okay, Bulls lost. Still, it was a good bet, macdamn. Don't kick yourself.

76ers seem a lot like they looked last year. They really did manage to keep it very close for much of that second half. Again, like last year, they let it slip away at the end...going from almost a tie game at 93-96

35-31 at the end of the first in Denver. 4th Q should tell us a little something about Seattle's stamina. So far those kids are looking good versus the Nuggets' hit-knife-through-butter style of defense. The over of 217 looks pretty solid at this point. Durant should fit in well with this style, and so should Jeff Green for that matter. Najera is the only one that plays much interior defense. Well, there's Camby going for blocks, but it's najera at the middle linebacker position that scraps for the ball.

hmm....Seattle likes to play defense in the paint ....a lot......I've seen a couple already in this game. These kids can play the And1 style just fine with denver so far.

Washington still ignores the defensive end of the game. Also, they seem to have a subconscious need for the final-shot win for every game. It makes for exciting basketball, I guess, but you don't make money at this by betting on exciting games. What you want is short chalk that blows the opposition into the shitter early and often. But beware, beware playing the Bullets. They will keep it close or let the other team stay close all the fuckin time, and then Gilbert will try to win it with a 3 at the buzzer. Even when the game is tied, oh no, we don't want to try for a high percentage shot. No. We want to shoot a turn-around fade-away 3 from the top of the key covered by 2 (3 is better) defenders...so that the buzzer sounds just before the ball goes through the net or, more likely, it falls of the rim.

Nene is fuckin overweight, slow, and monumentally pussified.

New Orleans got a huge lead in their game, and then they got complacent. a 20+ pt lead turned into a 14 point win. Sacramento has several key guys out...not sure we can get a good view of potential out of these two clubs from this game. Nonetheless, the Hornets covered as a DD fave. they're capable.

San Antonio won again tonight. They did not cover. Early in the year last season they did that sort of shit alot, and not just on B2Bs. Timmy and Tony actually played about a minute more in the 2nd of the B2B than the first. that's fuckin weird: the Spurs went 12 of 23 from 3pt land. And that's 2 overs in a row for the Spurs........I think that's a function of the opposition more than them. but for my ML purposes, even on a night when the shooting is off a smidge (43.7% overall), they still find a way to hold on and win. That's what great teams and great coaching gets you. But again, note that they did not cover on the B2B. That will be somewhat expected agaisnt teams that have a high scoring potential - suns, grizz, nuggets......the running teams that push shit in transition. The Grizz had a shot at tying it in the last second...goddamn..that's another thing.

Tim Duncan went 3 of 6 from the FT line. The Fundamental needs to Fix that shit. That's something else that will allow a backdoor cover.

Seattle looks good right now, and Denver is looking like bushleague horse eaters right now. dribble down the court, take an extra-long 3pt shot, miss it long, let seattle run down on a fast break EVERY time........it's not like Seattle is playing much tough defense.......

just bad decisions...

for tomorrow, I echo everyone else's thoughts. Heat without Wade is like a car without a frame. The Diesel engine might be there, but but the pistons know how to gum up his shit.

Shaq will have to be kobe-like in order to win. What the fuck are the heat doing with penny hardaway? Smush parker? Is this a frickin joke? I mean, okay, they dropped Kapono, but is Smush a step up from him? Maybe Daequan Cook will shock the world and pick up where Dwayne Wade left off?

:36_11_6:

Pistons -4.5 (-110)

I would wait for tomorrow, but the damn thing opened at -1, and I think there's nothing that would stop this line from skyrocketing all night and all day tomorrow.

oh, I guess I should mention the ML dogs for tomorrow........

First the Heat. They fail pretty much every test. To get a SU win, you need an avenue for getting points, and you need to be able to stop the other team's scoring somehow. The Heat should do none of this. Next, the team needs to have sufficient value, and I figure this one on somewhere between a 10 and 15% chance of winning straight up for the Heat. It's currently 182 at pinny, and I think it'll get to 2:1, but we won't see the entirely fair +1000 level show up, and that's what I'd need to see before I consider them.

also, I took the spread play......and as a corollary to that test, one of the things one must do is see if one is opposite BAR on one of these ML plays........it's pretty rare to be against Big Al and win SU. So, every superficial test, the Heat fails. Since slightly more digging led me to the chalk, fuck this dog like Todd@ttlsports.com does with donkeys.

Houston Rockets @ Utah Jazz

Now, this one I could consider at 155 at theGreek. Both these two teams play solid aggressive defense, and both could shut down or contain the scoring of the other. I think there'll be less AK roving with him sticking to Tmac like Todd@ttlsports.com sticks to mulefucking. Nonetheless, I think Tmac should gt several buckets despite Kirilenko's best efforts. And the inside should be a great battle between Yao and Battier and Boozer and Milsap.

Thing is...Utah is 8-1-1 ATS in their last 10 home games, and Houston is 3-14 ATS in their last 17 games overall. Now, while Houston's ATS record is superior to Todd@ttlsports.com (he should stick to mule fucking), it's still REALLY not good. Additionally, that includes 2 nights ago when the Rockets failed to cover (and barely managed the win) against a, shall we say, demoralized and dessicated Lakers squad. If the Rockets have a slow start on the road in Utah like they did in LA, then they won't be able to recover so easily.

So there's enough there that I think I let that one pass, too.

As for Seattle hosting the Suns....ya gotta be nuts to take those kids on the ML. I want to see them defend the Nash/Amare pick and roll better than they defended Denver NOT doing it last night...

SO...no ML plays today. Of the ones available, I like Houston the best, but I still do not like it enough.

oh, and one other thing.

TODD IS ANUS SLIME.

hey, if you're laughing at my analysis, I'd like to know which part is so stupid that it elicits your laughing...

if you're laughing at Todd@ttlsports.com, then I'd appreciate it if you'd email him and tell him that fucking donkeys isn't nice and that he should stop.

excellent write up . by the time i get that detroit line with my local it will be 6 .
do you have any suggestions for a good nba sportsbook ?
i hate getting screwed with late lines . got that wash/indy total at 205.5 and backed off .
that sucked . good luck and continued success .

bookmaker had Detroit -4 the latest today - I've already requested a book-to-book transfer from MB to BM so I have some ready in all my books...I'm tapped in a couple with CFB money already taken up.

5dimes has reduced juice up to a nickel on the day of the games....it's whichever you prefer. I personally think having more than one is good. I use BM, 5dimes, theGreek, WSEX (not really for NBA), and or course matchbook.

That is EXTREMELY impressive discipline, btw.....if that game doesn't go to OT, then you'd have lost it at 203...

Notes

O'Brien said he expects O'Neal to return Friday against Miami. ... Pacers F Ike Diogu made his third career start for Indiana in place of O'Neal. He was traded to the Pacers in the middle of last season. ... O'Neal missed 13 games last season with various injuries and illnesses. He missed 82 games the previous three seasons to injuries, illnesses and suspensions. ... Pacers F Shawne Williams served the first game of a team-imposed three-game suspension after being caught driving without a license. ... O'Neal presented O'Brien with the game ball.

Heat should get flushed again on Friday...

Hey redbearde, I'm at BetUs right now, and plan on cashing out when I get to my goal. BetUs is a horrible book, I guess it's not horrible, but it's one of the latest to get lines out. What book do you perfer for basketball, in regards to early lines?

Back2backs for the Heat are going to be brutal til' Wade get's back, Pacers should mash the peddle to the floor and not let up, I think O'Brien is also a smart enough coach to know that. I don't know how much you caught of that game, but they impressed me, none more than Dunleavy, I have been as harsh a critic of his as any since he came into the league. I know it's only one game, but if he plays with the aggression he should tonight, he could be in for a real nice season. This Pacer team is a sleeper. Getting O'Neal back will be huge, and help keep them out of scoring lulls, they had a couple tonight, having a guy who has some post moves like his will keep them consistent.

pinny. Too bad they don't want me anymore - not much about being an American sucks, but that sure does.

As I said above, I like using multiples. gun to my head, I guess bookmaker. different lines are better at different books, tho. It changes daily.

Yeah, if Jason Williams is still on his Day Off on the 2nd of B2Bs schedule, then this is going to be a damned long season for the Heat...

I -really- don't like that Rip is out. that little run-around fucker is damned tough to guard, and that 10-12 foot jumper is cash almost every time he puts it up. Alas, it's still a fade of Miami, so as of now I'll keep my wager where it is.

For Friday...

now this is a day where I can see some ML dogs cashing in. Notably, I like the Raptors as a dog. Though as that line plummets, I won't get shit for it by the time a ML offer is up somewheres.

I'm not sure 6 will yield enough for me to bother with fading the Mavs...but the Hawks have an annoying habit of winning against some top teams. Probly not this time.

Detroit at Orlando...who will be the dog here? Probly the stones...Orlando looks tough this year, and they won't be on a B2B.

Knicks at Cleveland....now THAT has PAY ME written on it.........should get some value at 6.5...I certainly think NY has the talent to compete...especially after the trade to get Zach Randolph. I'm hoping the Cavs are continually over-valued for the first month. That'll be fun.

Wizards @ Celtics...bullets.......they're going to have to play better through tough shooting times. When Brendan Haywood is your scrappy player in the Nets game, that's a damned bad sign. Pass. Besides, the Cs are LOADED up now...should be fun to watch.

Trailblazers @ Hornets - doesn't strike me as a good spot...blazers are off to a crushing loss that must have looked routine as hell to them for Denver to polish them off by a ton at the end of the 4th...

Nuggets @ Twolves - who do the Timberwolves have left? It looks like the Celtics of last year moved to Minny and forgot to take Paul Pierce and Delonte West with them. And Foye is injured....what the hell are they going to do? Why show up? Geez, that teams is toast.

76ers and Bulls...now this one's interesting. the 76ers love the penetration and kick out, and while the bulls play aggressive defense, Philly should still be in this game til the end. I'd love to get 3:1 on this one and the Knicks...well, I'll probably have to settle for less there, but still...a split is reasonable. A sweep is getting greedy, but I'd like it.

Kings, no.

Warriors, perhaps, but no value.

So for tomorrow I'm lookin at

Raptors ML
Knicks ML
76ers ML
Pacers kicking all holy shit out of the Heat.

Had a good night, but I'm irritated by the MLs always coming out late. guess I'll look again tomorrow. Hope I don't lose all value by the time I can get to em.

my record thus far...

ML dogs: 1-0, +1.36 units
Spreads: 2-1, 66.67%, +0.95 units

I also got VPI ML tonight, so I'm a damn happy camper.

:)

wish sbrlines wasn't fucked right now...I use that a LOT to keep an eye on things...

totally agree. And it's going up.....

Raptors +140
Knicks +198
76ers +392

Still looking at the Heat/Pacers game, but I dunno if I'm keen on laying so much chalk...

Rip should be back tonight...he missed the last game due to his daughter being born at a bad time. HOW DARE SHE?

I actually expected Detroit to be a tiny fave here, so I guess I ought to take em at plus money......

Pistons +128.3

Pistons are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 Friday games.
Pistons are 10-3 ATS in their last 13 games as an underdog.
Pistons are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games as a road underdog.
Pistons are 16-6 ATS in their last 22 road games.
Pistons are 9-2 ATS in the last 11 meetings in Orlando.
Road team is 13-3-3 ATS in the last 19 meetings.

total card for today...boy have I gone overboard...

Pistons +128.3
Raptors +140
Knicks +198
76ers +392
Heat/Pacers Over 190.5 (-103)

goddamnit. it happened again. This time I think I just didn't put the bet in. I still got half my pistons bet at a shop, but goddamnit, this shit with my MB wagers is getting annoying. At least it wasn't the philly wager.......

ML dogs: 4-1, 80%, +6.24 units - should be more
Spreads: 2-2, 50%, (.08) units

great night in NBA...

okay, for Saturday...

I think Indiana is superior to Memphis. I'm hoping to fill a reasonable ML wager, and I think the Pacers will keep themselves in position to win. Friday, J O'neal had a great game, Granger was incredible, and if Memphis plays the kind of defense I remember from last year, it'll mean a lot of points for the Pacers. It'll be a ML play. We'll see if anyone's interested in the association on a Saturday...interestingly, folks seem to be betting on Memphis.

Someone tell me why?

Orlando @ Washington

I want to ride the Bullets' losing streak. When Brendan Fucking Haywood is your most spirited and effective player, then you're going to lose a Whole Fucking Lot of games during the season. If you like the Wiz, then please go match me up at -102 at MB.

Chicago @ Milwaukee

I was delighted the bulls lost tonight at home. Tomorrow, they play possibly the worst team in the league. If they can contain Redd and Mo to 50 to 60 between them, then the Bulls should be more than able to win this game. The Bucks shouldn't be favored. To anyone. I would take portland and/or GSW against this bunch of shiteaters. Please play Yi a lot. Pretty please?

Bulls are 14-6 ATS in their last 20 games following a SU loss of more than 10 points.
Bulls are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games following a double-digit loss at home.
Bucks are 5-13-1 ATS in their last 19 games overall.
Bucks are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games as an underdog.
Bulls are 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings.

So, I'm looking at

Orlando ML
Indiana ML
Bulls -2.5

someone match them please.

oh look!

more.

Bucks are 0-4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games.
Bucks are 0-7 ATS in their last 7 games as a home underdog.
Bucks are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games playing on 0 days rest.

there are contrary trends, but I think they are largely inapplicable.
