  • will the skankees finally support clemens?
  • twins play the late game tonight in detroit, then have to travel to the bronx to play the yankees about 20 hours after their game ends tonight
  • if i remember correctly, traveling from west to east is harder on the body (detroit to new york)
this would have to be a run-line play, because -175 is ridiculous

btw, mlb.com is showing a 7:05pm (eastern) first pitch. your chart above has 4:05pm. if in fact it is 4:05pm, then that is even less time the tigers have to rest

Kind of itching to get back into baseball but still holding out..Some games I find interesting..

LAD -118: D.Lowe has straight up been the man for the most part this yr. Braves cross country travel to play LAD as well.

Orioles -104: Bedard has been stout, I would think about the Under if it moved to 8 as the WSux are an under machine and don't hit LHP real well at all. Buehrle has pitched good also and has some incentive to keep pitching well if he wants to get paid.

Twins +167 / Over 9.5: The way the Spankees are playing they don't deserve to be this high of favorites, just the bottom line. As far as the total, Boof hasn't had the best stuff in the world and neither has Roger so figure 3-4 runs over 5-6ip from each.

Phillies -109: Woody Williams owns me and I am always wrong on this guy but Houston is a very very tough team to bet.

Cubs/Nationals over 8.5: I think each starter could give up 3-4 runs but still don't like the Nationals offense much without Guzman leading off.

Baby Backs -129: A healthy Webb or a Looper fresh off the DL because of shoulder soreness?

Mets -119: Rockies have now lost 9 straight and return home, is that enough to get a win here?

The Pinnacle lines are Pacific time that is why it shows 4:05

this is an ugly looking card... to me atleast, never a fan of not knowing who the umps are, feel its provides you a good feel of how they will call some of these pitchers who rely a lot on location or not. so I will look at those games with umps first

A couple of guys coming off injuries:
Tex - McCarty (blister)
Stl - Looper (shoulder)

Tex/Box - McCarty and Gabbard
well you have McCarty who had a blister but was pitching well before then, then you have Gabbard who got rocked after his second start in the bigs this year, but with 1 month between the two starts. He was just called up last week. You also have Scott Barry umping the game and this is his 2nd game being HP ump all year so there are quite a few uncertainties in this game. Barry did only call 58.79% strikes in his only other game and thats well below what the norm is. He umped only 5 games last year and went 1-4 O/U calling 63.31% strikes so this looks a little tricky. But I don't feel a blister is too big of a deal and I am leaning to Texas +150 in this one. Should Gabbard really be a big fav? Was last weeks start an abberation because his other starts in the majors prior to last week were pretty solid (1 start this year and 4 starts, 3 relief appearances last year).

TB/Cle - Sonnanstine/Carmona

Carmona gave up a lot of hits to Wash 2 starts ago and then got rocked last week. Is he losing his touch. Is Cleveland going to overlook this game as they play @ Detriot in the next series starting Tuesday. Sonnanstine has pitched a little better in the past couple weeks, but is that because of pitching @ home or is he truly getting better. He was hammered in 2 of his first 3 starts, all on the road (wasn't hammered @ Florida), and now he's @ Cleveland. Marquez calls a fairly low percentage of strikes, and I don't know if hell respect Sonnanstine much or Carmona for that matter as he's not established a big league name for himself. I am taking a look at the OVER here but Tampa's quiet bats are a little worrisome.

Seattle - look Felix had one good start since landing on the DL early in the year. but he's owned the Royals. How do the M's react tomorrow as Hargrove resigned today. Do they play with passion or are they shocked? I don't see how they can play with any sort of passion if their ump quits on them and theyre already playing/over acheiving... that's just me. Meche pitched a gem and a dud against the M's this year, his former team. I guess he pitches somewhere in between now... easy way out. I'd take the M's, not supporting Felix, but the M's themselves, great pen can get them out of trouble.

Rockies won yesterday, but yea they've lost a lot

ehh I thought I heard on Sportscenter last night in bed they lost 8 in a row.. I haven't been playing as much attention to baseball this last week as I was busy with a wedding and shit so you would def know this more than I would.

Mets ML is looking atractice - Glavine owns the Rockies. seems like a cheap price on the Mets although they haven't completely gotten out of their funk. Rockies can't win even when they are hitting... their bullpen just blows it for them. Hirsh doesn't pitch nearly as well @ home and has given up 5 ERs in his last 3 starts.

Bal/CWS Under 8 - I hate the White Sox. I hate the White Sox, I hate the White Sox. But Buehrle and Bedard in a pitchers duel here.

:36_11_6:

Have to agree as I hate them very much as well but this game should be a good pitchers duel of 3-2 game at the end of the 7th...That means it will be 8-2 after the first 2 innings

hey renew... i like the over in the astros game... shoukld be like 7-5 for someone there
also i like the the A's for sure with the jays strugling on the road.. the under in the A's might be interesting b/c the jays bats are very silent now.. A's should win like 5-2
i also like the chisx under as well.. burhle and bedard.., looks like a 3-2 game to me

Took the Dodgers minus 19 cents at 5d. Had it initally figured at 42 cents so was actually cutting it a little close. Just kept finding things that strongly favor the Dodgers so that estimate may actually be a little conservative. Just tired right now or I would do a write up but did do the work and see this as a accurate bet. GL

will cut and paste some notes from sunday's games as taken from Yahoo. I left some stuff out, but the full version can be found below.

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-baseballnotes&prov=ap&type=lgns

Oakland:RHPs Huston Street (nerve irritation in his right elbow) and Kiko Calero (right shoulder inflammation) were scheduled for long-toss sessions Sunday. ... Manager Bob Geren said RHP Justin Duchscherer (strained right hip) is improving, but not as quickly as the team would like. "It's still improving, so still being optimistic," Geren said

TEXAS: The Rangers went 14-12 in June after a 9-20 May. The bullpen has pitched eight scoreless innings in the past two games.

BOSTON: SS Julio Lugo was not in the starting lineup for the third consecutive game, though he did enter in the ninth as a pinch runner.

TAMPA BAY: INF B.J. Upton, on the disabled list since June 14 with a strained left quadriceps, could complete his injury rehab assignment at Triple-A Durham on Sunday night and rejoin the Devil Rays this week in Boston. ... Devil Rays pitchers struck out 233 batters in June, the most in the majors for the month. ... RHP Andy Sonnanstine, scheduled to start Monday night at Cleveland, is a native of Barberton, Ohio, and attended Wadsworth High School, which is about 35 miles from Jacobs Field. ... RHP James Shields is 0-4 with a 6.66 ERA during his four-game losing streak after opening the season 6-0. ... The Devil Rays have lost eight straight at Jacobs Field dating to 2005.

LOS ANGELES:OF Erick Aybar (hand) left Sunday's game in the third inning. C Mike Napoli (leg) was injured tagging Melvin Mora at the plate for the final out. Scioscia said both players will be examined in Texas on Monday

BALTIMORE: The Orioles are 8-28 since winning the final six games of May to pull to 27-27.

CHICAGO: Jon Garland has walked no more than one batter in 10 of his 16 starts. RF Jermaine Dye told manager Ozzie Guillen he'll be ready to play Monday, but Guillen said he would need to talk more with Dye before making a decision. Dye has missed nine games with a strained left quadriceps

SEATTLE: Raul Ibanez returned as the DH after missing six games with a strained right hamstring. He said he thinks he'll be able to return to LF Monday at Kansas City

PHILADELPHIA: RHP Tom Gordon (right rotator cuff strain) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with Class-A Clearwater on July 4. Gordon has been sidelined since May 2. RHP Freddy Garcia (right shoulder strain) will throw on Monday, his first action since June 9. There is no timetable for Brett Myers (strained right shoulder) to throw again at the moment.

HOUSTON: 2B Craig Biggio was out of the starting lineup for the first time since reaching 3,000 hits on Thursday night. Manager Phil Garner said Biggio would play against Philadelphia on Monday and Tuesday, then sit out Wednesday's Fourth of July matinee. RHP Brad Lidge was scheduled to throw a simulated inning on Monday as he continues to recover from a strained oblique muscle that's bothered him for two weeks. Garner said he would consider giving Lidge a rehab outing in the minors before putting him back in the Astros' bullpen.

NATIONALS he Nationals haven't scored more than four runs in 11 games, or since a 9-8 loss to Detroit on June 18. Washington's 301 runs in 81 games are the fewest in the majors.

PIRATES: The Brewers visit Pittsburgh on Monday, their first trip there this season, even though the two teams play in the same division. Milwaukee leads the season series 5-1, with the previous six games played in Miller Park. But the Pirates were 7-3 at home against Milwaukee last season and are 37-18 there against the Brewers since PNC Park opened in 2001. ... With LHP Zach Duke (elbow) on the disabled list, RHP Shane Youman will be called up from Triple-A Indianapolis to start Tuesday against Milwaukee. Youman was 0-2 with a 2.91 ERA in five Pirates games late last season. This year, Youman is 4-6 with a 4.70 ERA in 15 starts for Indianapolis, with 61 strikeouts and 36 walks.

CINCINNATI:Rookie Homer Bailey has been hit hard in his last two starts, giving up 13 hits, eight walks and 13 runs over only 5 1-3 innings. The 21-year-old pitcher relied too much on his fastball Sunday, one of the habits the Reds tried to change when he was in the minors. "He tried to go out there with one pitch," manager Jerry Narron said. "He wasn't getting anything else over. With young players, you know you're going to have ups and downs. You've got to be able to throw strikes with something other than your fastball."

LOS ANGELES LHP Mark Hendrickson was reinstated to the rotation and will start Wednesday's game against Atlanta. "We feel good putting him back in there," manager Grady Little said. Hendrickson is 2-3 with a 4.81 ERA in eight starts this season. He replaces LHP Hong-Chih Kuo, who was demoted to Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday after his third poor start in a row. Kuo had allowed 17 earned runs in 10 1-3 innings over those starts. ... The Dodgers recalled RHP D.J. Houlton and he will work long relief. "He's had a good, steady season in Triple-A the last couple years," Little said. "We feel like he can give us help in the bullpen with innings and good quality innings. He's got the ability to start games as well." Houlton pitched the ninth Sunday.

ARIZONASince April 13, RHP Brandon Webb is 7-4 with a 2.64 ERA to lower his ERA to a season-best 3.08 entering Monday's game at St. Louis. He won four of six games in June, usually one of his best months of the season. His July ERA of 3.70 is the highest for any month except October, and he's given up 20 career home runs in July, also his high for any month. He's 1-3 with a 4.08 ERA in five starts against the Cardinals.

So Atlanta score 0, 0, 0, 1 & 0 vs BOS/DET, then play 6 against Washington & Florida, winning 5 and choking the 6th away late.

I'm always supicious of teams who take horrible form against good teams, and turn it around with short-term *good* form vs weak/er teams. The way they lost last night says to me they're ripe for another letdown, esp. given their travel task.

LA is close to the best record in the NL (9th best record in the leagues), and have gotta be buzzing for the way they ended their SD series with an emphatic win. I wouldnt have liked them off being swept facing the Bravos.

Mets ML is looking atractice - Glavine owns the Rockies. seems like a cheap price on the Mets although they haven't completely gotten out of their funk. Rockies can't win even when they are hitting... their bullpen just blows it for them. Hirsh doesn't pitch nearly as well @ home and has given up 5 ERs in his last 3 starts.

i like the mets today. since glavine changes his stuff, especially his mechanics, after going 0-4 he's 2-0 with an impressive 0.64 era. the mets looked improved during their series against the phillies and now they face a team that they own. mets are 20-6 against the rockies and already won two of three in late april at shea. hirsh has an 9.2 era in his last 3 starts but the whole team struggled on their 10 game road trip and before they went on the road the rockies won 8 of 10 home games.

the dbacks with webb on the mound are always worth a play...especially on the road. in my opinion looper hasn't shown much this season and before his injury he went 0-3 with a 9.3 era.

at first i thought the phillies would be a nice play today against the astros but take a look at their last few games. nearly every time they won a game they automatically lost the next one. after a win they are 1-7 at the moment.

intersting stuff!

i have to admit that it concerns me a bit that dinardo most of the times only stays in the games for 5 innings and the bullpen of the a's has an 9.5 era in the last 3 games.

Towers overall vs AL teams: ERA - 4.86 / WHIP - 1.38

Towers starting away vs AL teams: ERA - 5.86 / WHIP -1.76

Towers overall away vs AL teams: ERA - 6.63 / WHIP - 1.72

Towers starting overall: ERA - 5.58 / WHIP -1.51

last season vs A's: 4 Inn, 5 H, 1 BB, 3 ER, 4 K, 5-6 loss, in Toronto

I hear you.

But Toronto, after scoring 6.63 runs/game during an 8-3 streak, has since gone 1-5 over their last 6, averaging 3.00 runs/game entering this contest. Their bats are slumping, something mirrored in the fact their IL games ended, and they started back up against AL teams. Slumping bats should mean Lenny has a shot to go deeper than usual, because his ERA is lower than his WHIP, while not bad, would suggest.

excellent stuff BC!
i'm currently following a system and the only play today is oakland so i already tended to play the a's.
odds are dropping on oakland i guess i will give it a try.

A's after going 2-8 have gone 3-2, all on the road vs CLE & NYY, both losses by 1 run.

BJ's after going 8-3 are 1-5, again all on the road after those earlier games were mostly all at home.

Both team's headed in opposite directions, the better starter is with the team headed in the better direction, and who happens to get to bat last.

My only concern at all for Dinardo is his ERA doesnt quite reflect his WHIP, and Toronto supposedly like lefties, but they've only scored 3, 2, 4, 2 & 3 runs against the last 5 AL lefties they've faced.

Of the 3 pitching match-ups in this series, this is the game I think the BJs least likely to win. They gotta be heart broken over their pen blowing their 8th inning 1-0 lead yesterday, and now have to travel to a venue where they've lost 7 of their last 9 contests at (A's scorers of at least 5 runs in everyone of those wins).

Bal/CWS Under 8 - I hate the White Sox. I hate the White Sox, I hate the White Sox. But Buehrle and Bedard in a pitchers duel here.

Buehrle & Bedard should display a ptiching duel tonight, but those bullpens are the 2nd and 4th worst in the majors (based on era):

Baltimore:

I'd be afraid of Buehrle & Bedard shutting down the bats, then the bullpens blowing it within the last 2 innings.

Don't know if it was mentioned but Rockies are 7-14 vs. LHP this yr and have lost 20 of last 26 to the Mutts. Hirsh is 1-4 in 8 games are Coors and the Rockies are 3-5 when he pitches there.

DiNardo career vs. Tor which is only 15 innings, but he has struggled somewhat against Tor so this is no slam dunk with Oak

nola, what are your thoughts on the phillies? moyer has a good history versus the 'stros

Id rather not have to deal with the Phillies pen but the signing of J.C. Romero helps them out, Madson will be unavailable today. Both teams seem to be hitting very well lately. Id rather not touch this game but I trust Moyer more than Woody.

Added Washington first 5 plus 35 cents at 5 dimes. Not comfortable with a game bet as Cubs may have best of pens today and have shown the abilty to come back in games. Lilly is simply pitching at a low level. Last 3 road games where he actually pitched any length he gave up 16 runs in 16 and 2/3rds innings. In his last 6 real starts he has had 1 excellent start at home and the rest were trash. Simontachi has had a knack for getting hit pitching in the 6th innngs on. Cubs recent hot streak has been in Chicago. Still not kidding myself as to respective bat strength of the 2 teams but a simple fact remains. Simontachi after 10 starts is 5-5 always getting plus money for an excellent roi while Lilly last 10 is 4-6 for a serious negative cash flow. GL

Posting this in the " wise guys " thread with the hope that one of you
guys might have some info. Im looking for a ( ump ) Jeff Nelson sighting.
Haven't seen him in a boxscore for nearly three weeks. His UNDER numbers
are so off the charts that i guess im wondering if anything went down
behind closed doors.

Have a couple plays ....

Boston - 1.5
Cubs/Nats Over 8.5 gl

2 things about those numbers

- 11 of those ERs came in 3.1 innings he pitched in Toronto. Needless to say, he isnt pitching in Toronto in this start (his ERA against the BJs apart the 2 outings that comprised those 3.1 inns - 3.85)

- Those numbers came in his rookie years w/Boston. His numbers this season speak like a bit of maturity has arrived for him. Forgetting his very 1st rookie season (2004)....

in 2005/06 he pitched 53.2 inns for a 6.20 ERA & a 1.84 WHIP
in 2007 he's pitched 51.0 inns for a 2.47 ERA & a 1.25 WHIP

A nice contrast given the workload is almost exactly the same, the improvement is palpable - he's more than halved that ERA

Took Atlanta and got wiped out.

Sorry to hear that, MoF. I'm not sure why you bumped my post in saying so, since I was advocating a play on LA.
In the end I couldnt make up my mind whether to play either LA or the A's (I wasnt willing to play both), so I ended up playing neither.
