what i made the lines, it's a combination of what i think and what I expect from the oddsmakers. More so leaning to what the oddsmakers put out, but the big differences are what I investigate

why does the under look good? hellickson and dempster looks like a recipe for the over, but i'm probably 1-4 in my last 5 totals, so i'm wondering what you're seeing.
 
El - I've actually flipped a little here after spending some more time looking at the number. Originally leaned under with wind blowing in, and Tampa batting .200 off RHP, and despite Hellickson's numbers looking a bit inflated I think one of those starts was in the wind tunnel in Arlington, and he pitched better than his line would indicate vs Balt.

But looking at these bullpens, the numbers don't impress, and I think Boston is very average outside of games where Lester and Bucholz take the hill.

Still digging here. I think TB has some value, but I cringe at the thought of betting on their offense. Dempster had a decent spring and has been ok so far this season.
 
Here's my data on the TB vs Bos game. Looking for feedback on other items you cappers might include when making your analysis on games (database is limited on some items). I don't include weather in pivot tables yet (coming soon). My goal is to create a database that takes very little time to input and gather info for all games in less than 30 minutes (I'm getting close). I appreciate any comments you guys might have to better my spreadsheets for data.

TB/BOS

Isn't the fact that this is an 11am start time alone make you like the under? Also, "getaway day" for both teams, TB heading to BAL and BOS to CLE. This was to be a 4-game series, of course rained out Friday...but anyway, these two juggernaut offenses have combined for 8 runs in 2 games. TB has mustered up just 1 run in the 2 games vs BOS and just 4 runs total over their last 4 games (yeah, 1.0 runs per game).

Gimme the under...now watch it be something like a 9-6 final.
 
Shortline - as always thanks for the wealth of info. A few things that you might consider adding to the spreadsheet:

If you elect to do the weather, the next thing I look at if the wind is a big factor coming in OR out, is a pitcher's flyball tendencies. If we have an extreme flyballer pitching at Wrigley with the wind blowing out at a steady clip, there are times when they can't set a total high enough. Flyball/groundball percentages would be something that would be very useful here.

Also (and before you start laughing hear me out on this one) I'd be interested knowing where an umpire was born/raised. I know this sounds silly but if I liked St Louis in a Cubs/Cards game, I would think twice about playing them if the ump was a Northsider from birth....

Also roof info for the stadiums where it applies would be wonderful
 
took TB+ last night. shoulda waited. I'm with you sc when it comes to hellickson. and getting plus money vs dempster seems like a great investment to me. A couple of those famous hanging sliders might be exactly what these rays need to get their offense goin.

How do you get all that info into an excel spreadsheet for each game?
 
I see Buehrle is facing his old team...any stats that show how a pitcher does again his former team???

Thanks for the inputs doggy.

I'll definitely have all the weather items that you suggested (temp, wind direction, wind speed, humidity and roof status). Pitcher's flyball/groundball will be difficult. I know the data is available on fangraphs.com...however, not sure I want to spend the time to input 180+ pitchers tendencies. No doubt that it would be great to have that info combined with wind speed and direction for those bandbox type parks. If someone knows of a site where I can get this info easier than fangraphs...let me know.

Ump birthplaces...yeah...not going to do that...haha.

Only one Guy has faced him on the roster. He will pitch to contact and I like the sox vs LHP, but I passed after considering Floyd's road struggles

Lean over @Miami and wash tt over. Cards ml and maybe Philly. Staying away from angels game as 40 for a Cali team probably feels like sub zero. Well lean twins if anything I guess
 
Basically Cards blew a game and Pirates stole one. Edge in SP and lineup to StLouis thought they would look to bounce back here

Over in miami because thinking Nate hit tonight and Zimmerman has been solid but thinking Miami scraps at least a few

Dodgers off a 1-0 game and SD similar 2-1 game where all scoring was late..
 
Taking a shot w 1st 5 under and game under at oak.Cespedes absence really weakens them vs lHP imo and crisp battling the I.jury returns at what level. Bedard seems sharp to date just not stretched out. Houston though built for lefties struggling since opener to break 3 vs a LHP
 
Fwiw based on what I see as a short line lean spurs + the points. Not playing it though. Grizzlies were a double winner and lean kings but passed. Not pushing my Lu k
