MNF Discussion. Jets v Chargers

Master P

Pretty much a regular
I didnt see any discussion thread, so i started one

LINE: NY JETS+8/ 8.5/ or 9 (depends where you get it) VS SD CHARGERS
TOTAL: 44 or 44.5 (again depends on where you get it)

we all know mr favre loves and basically is mr monday night, chargers on the other hand are 0-2 (but the record as we all know is deceiving, they lead both games in the final seconds and lost in heartbreakers), again record is deceiving coz they are the better and more talented team

havent done any research

anyone got plays/ thoughts on monday night? lets get this party started

This is an interesting one...I can't seem to pick a side.

Here's some more info:

I can't get myself to bet Farve and the Jets in this situation. It's either the line drops to -8 for SD and I but a point to get -7, or a no play for me IMO. Hard game to cap I think.

I'm liking SD here but man am i on a cold streak this week. the Cowboy's looked unstoppable last night and i was all over GB. the line is down to 8 on sportsbook.com
SD is 8-1 ATS as a home fav or 7.5-10, and 13-6 in all home games over last 3 years.

Does anyone know how GB fared on the road and as a dog? GB's performance took the shape of Favre so looking at their history instead of the Jets would be a better measure.

I like SD here. I hope this means a healthy dose of LT/Sproles since I am nursing a 24.5 lead in fantasy but my opponent has Rivers and Gates tonight.

SD is 0-2...0-2 teams are probably the most dangerous to bet against...Especially at home, and as talented as SD coming off a game where they were robbed...I think it's gotta be SD or nothing.

Here is my 2 cents posted in Marlo's thread as I didnt see this one earlier -

Looks like SD and SD 1st H are the plays . I was looking for a reason to take NY all weekend but just cant come up with one.

The line looks high but SD was a small fav @ Denver and NYJ a small dog at home to NE . Very simply SD is better then NE and probably the best team in the AFC at the moment despite being 0-2 . I think anything under -10 presents value with SD here .

NY -

They scored 10 at home vs the NE defense and 20 away @ Miami in large part thanks to the TD they had on 4th and 13 with no kicker available . So the offense is not in sync . Is that really suprising ? Like I said repeatedly Favre has played 98% of his LONG career in one organization . This is a total upheavel for him . Only made worse since he didnt arrive in NY till mid camp . Its not like they had the whole offseason to learn the playbook and get on the same page . Factor in your supposed #1 WR didnt play a snap in preseason and still is not 100% (Coles) .

Of course they have potential but it takes time to develop the sync and timing needed to be successful in the offense . Lets not forget the OL is looking at a growing period as well with the some new faces ..There kicker is out and while Feeley is solid he has always been widely inconsistent ( unreliable) .

SD -
LT is hurt and Gates is less then 100? So what ? Sproles is as talented as LT and they still nearly dropped 40 last week on the road vs Denver with those 2 in limited roles . The pass attack stepped up as Chambers and jackson made some plays ...

You know SD is pissed after losing consecutive games in heartbreaking fashion. In other sports teams usually go in 1 direction or the extreme opposite here . They either get crushed or crush someone .......They also have games @ Oak and @ Miami to follow while Carolina and Denver are clearly better teams then NYJ...

The Chargers also trailed 31-17 at half last week . They only score they allowed was the phantom TD thanks to the no call in the 2nd H. So safe to say they made adjustments and considerdably slowed the best offense in the NFL the 1st 3 weeks. The offense besides 2 TDS had 2 FGs but that may have cost the game as both times they were at the 10yd line or inside it and didnt get the TD. Also 1st H DEN had fairly short TD drives of 28 and 48 yds....also SD offense had 1 just punt and it was a 3 and out ....

While the loss v Carolina the only TD CAR cored on offense was the last one as time expired they had 4 FGs of which two were fairly long 44 and 49 yds which is a question mark with Feeley from that distance IMO. They Panthers had a defensive score as well. Funny part is the defensive did the same thing again here. Played a shitty 1st H and really shut down the opponent after halftime before the crucial last drive ....

Also very key I think about the Jets is they have not even had 300 yds of total offense yet . There defense will it has played well is basically playing bend dont break ball. They dont have any stops or turnovers and even Eric Barton admitted as much after the NE loss. So the stats arent bad but then again its not the SD offense either and no big plays to speak of.....I also though both opposing QBs did well taking advantage of the holes in the Jets pass defense . remember Pennington moving the ball in the 4th quarter ? NE didnt even take many deep shots downfield and did well with teh underneath stuff . Difference is only Randy Moss is a game changer of the teams played SD has alot more weapons to deal with ...

JETS O 293 yds @ Miami and the phins have allowed some huge pass plays early and allowed a 56 yd TD to Cotchery early and the 22 yd "hail Mary" to Stuckey . Leaving 214yds gained on the other 54 plays and about 105 yds through the air on the other 20 attempts ....Same deal vs NE only 150 something yds passing and 50 came on 1 play ...the offense is very sluggish ......and its facing an offensive beast who hasnt even put it all together yet ....how unlucky for NYJ to waive punter Graham and then get stuck with him anyway because there replacment got injured . Does he step up now or continue to be the struggling punter he was for awhile.....do you really want to give SD good field position ? Sproles may not return punts though which could be a mixed blessing cause it will be more involvemnent as RB ....

SD 28-17 ....not sure about the total because its pretty tight but do think SD gets 28 pts or better here...could see 28-14 or 28-13 ...probably worth SD and over teaser as well........

SD - the points{strong play}
SD 1st H alf {more like medium sized}
SD Team Total over ? Under jets TT ??

Are things I am looking at .....

Does anyone know how GB fared on the road and as a dog? GB's performance took the shape of Favre so looking at their history instead of the Jets would be a better measure.

I do recall last year that GB was a TD dogs or thereabouts when it traveled to DAL and lost w/o covering the spread . It was the game Favre left due to injury and Rodgers replaced him clearly outplaying him.

I would disagree though looking @ GB's numbers because there is no way the Jets and Favre are in sync like the GB teams were with him for the past decade . Spreads are more about perception then performance ....in GB best seasons I would bet they did poorly as a bigger underdogs ....

Last 2 seasons 0-2-1 catching 7 or more ( LYR @ Dallas lost by 10, 2YRs ago @ SEA +10 pushed and +12 @ Philly lost by 22 ) and 3 seasons ago when they were 4-12 SU and 1-4 as chalk he went 3-0 ATS catching a TD or more going 1-2 SU losing by 3 and 7 . Thats when all the shuld he retire talk really heated up as he was forcing passes and such. Most of that was the 1st 10 weeks of the season though as the fell to pieces ATS after that going 2-5 SU and 0-5-2 ATS oddsmakers just had a tough time setting lines for them it seems or the betting public didnt know what to expect....

I'm not buying the jets offensive numbers from the first two games.

WHile you are right, nut, and favre still needs some time to get accustomed to the system, and find chemistry with his receivers, alot of it was due to VERY conservative play calling.

I think that changes tonight... jets know SD is going to put up 24+ no matter what, and also know that the only way they keep up is to score with them- via a vertical passing game.
This is a monday night game, this is primetime TV, this is where favre excels.

I'm pretty sure you will see schottenheimer employ a more agressive offensive gameplan tonight. More trial and error then anything... it MAY not be the right time yet, and they may go back to being conservative if the plan fails, but I think tonight theyre going to take a lot more chances and see where spreading the field and letting favre go to work will take them

Actually played my first teaser of the year last night for this game....
SD -2 and over 38
SD has to win this game to prevent going 0-3, and I think we should see both offenses looking to the air a fair amount.
jets secondary is banged up with barrett and miller hurtin and both questionable.... so they should look to exploit that. and LT should see limited playing time. should see a pass balanced offense for both teams.

Might I add all four Monday night games so far have surprisingly blown over the totals.

I do agree so why is it going to change ? Mangenius is just another coach that earned a good reputation after 1 season and is living off it . How many OC did the Jets go through past few years ? It was always Pennington's fault because he has no arm , etc ...

They were 5-12 on 3rd down at Miami ...

Everyone keeps referring to the three running plays but who is the go to go in the red zone ???

Favre exceling on primetime is so overrated . I think of those 7+ spreads I mentioned the Dallas game was primetime on a Thursday and think the SEA game was a MNF game as well and I know the Philly game was on MNF . So thats all 3 instinces where he was a big dog and lost by at least 10 the past 2 years on TV...

Last year he was 2-2 on primetime TV games losing home vs CHI on SNF , winning on MNF @ Den in a game they probably should have lost , and split on Thursdays winning @ Det on TDay and losing @ Dal teh following week...

How bout 2 years ago on TV ? As I said both the SEA and Philly games where MNF wher he lost both by DDs , he won 9-7 at home laying -3.5 to Minny on a Thursday nite game and the finale vs a disinterested bears team he won SU as a small dog

How bout three eyars ago? He lost but covered a TD spread @ CAR on MNF believe in backdoor fashion , was -6 at home vs Minny on MNF and lost SU 20-17 , was -7 at home vs DET and won by 3 in OT ON SNF and then lost the next week 48-3 @ Balt on MNF ......

So past 3 years Favre is 1-5 on MNF winning @ Denver in OT . Losing @ SEA +10 and pushed , Losing @ Philly +12 by 22 , Losing @ Car by 3 as +7 , Losing SU laying -6 at home vs Minny and Losing by 40 + @ Balt catching 3.5 pts ......

I dont discount liking the over here but dont think its has much to do with jets scoring as pretty certain SD should get 28 here ...:cheers:Also like the teaser though

this game should be Chargers -3.5

this team isnt as good as what people think.

I love ya Throw but seriously ? Your telling me these teams are equal ? Honestly ?

I am fairly ceratin SD would be -3 NY if they played today ....let alone home ....the jets were home dogs last week and lost by 10 and really never gave NE much of a scare . last week the employed the Brady is worth 8 points BS and that was quickly seen through and why the game was pounded down to NE -1 by close ...

Its not always about how good one team is but also about how bad the other team is ....

Chargers defense has regressed so much(31st pass defense, loss of Merriroid seems like they get no pressure now, Jammal Williams isnt what he used to be, even the loss of SS McRee hurt). That why this team isnt the same you can score on them now. The offense is banged up yeah Rivers is getting better but it seems like Gates and LT are gettin older slower and banged up all the time.

Sproles does scare me 2 death tho lol.

But honeslty Jets will score on this team if the defense or special teams can come up with a big play or 2 they win the game.

GREAT point here though, nut, as usual.

This is going to be a ongoing problem all season, i think its GOING to be dustin keller at TE, as it was said him and favre had a lot of chemistry in training camp and keller should be the real deal. he actually caught out only TD pass last week lol.

jones is allergic to scoring TD's. he really is. he had one all last season.....
and everyone saw the 3 straight runs inside the five and no TD. sad, although shchottenheimer should have mixed it up there.

red zone offense is a SERIOUS concern for the jets. once coles gets healthier though this will change. he's still about 70%.

SD defense has definetly regressed but how much can we look at two weeks. If an offensive is out of sync we give it some time to work it out . If SD didnt show great improvement in the 2nd Hs of both games I would agree . Clearly the injuries have taken its toll but overall they are still above avg IMO and probably still better then Jets .

I cant hold the DEN game against them because DEN looks like the NE offense of 2007 . Wonder why ??

The defense hasnt made a big play in 2 games vs weaker offenses so I dont expect them to here ....

Also no one seems concerned with the 1st cross country trip ....

Not so much about how I value SD but more a statement on the NFL....:cheers:BOL

I felt GB was the sucker play of the week and said it in whatever discussion thread on Saturday . Same sort of logic here. Everyone seems to agree NY wont win so all we are talking is the difference bewteen losing by 1 possession or 2 .......

Guess my point is its the same ole Jets but expectations were raised because they added Favre . Sure they were better then 07 even before that but better in terms of what ? I agree with Keller but still you need to worry about every weapon in the red zone and jets can barely name 1 . Thats why teams were using the Tackle Eligible for awhile ...or defensive players on offense near the goal line ...

I am not down on the Jets other just trying to look at this team in today's terms ......Aaron Rodgers took how long to get the GB system down and now he looks fine . How people expect any QB to walk into what in Favre's world is an entirely NEW world and just step in like in its easy just baffles me...Also when did GB get good ? When it developed more complimentary players such as Jennings and Grant to go with the Favre to Driver connection....

I guess I want to see happen it before I bet like it will happen . They were just no signs of improvement IMO from NY . Actually Jets are 1 play away from being 0-2 ....either the TD prayer to Stuckey getting knocked down or Pennington squeezing into the end zone rather then be picked ...

Funny part is Suzy Kolber just said exactly what I have been saying ...

Alan Faneca asked about the offense ? Its an explosiv offense in waiting ...

Brett Favre still learning the playbook and never took the playbook him in GB ....

San Diego will cover based on the kind of week I've had since I bet the JETS +9. That's it in a nutshell. Good Luck
