Public Service Announcement:

There has been increased activity from new members who's only goal is to bash posters. They contribute nothing to the forums and their sole purpose is to try and rile folks up to gain attention to themselves. They are coming from other sites where they have no doubt been banned. I just received a visit yesterday from my new best friend Sanfro. He has only been on this site for 2 days, well, only in my threads for 2 days, but he obviously has a tiny hard on for anyone that even remotely shows any success. His aim is to get people pissed off at him, so he gets the attention he so desperately needs. He was an abused child.

Because they are new to this site these geniuses don't realize that most of us have been here for years and we know each other very well so their bashing just comes off as stupid. Sometimes hilarious, but mostly just stupid. Unfortunately, none of them display any real knowledge of sports or gambling except for a few catch phrases or trigger words like "squares" they use so they think they are coming off as experts. It's sad really because if they did know anything or even ever gamble, they would know the purpose of these sites is to share information to try and beat the books. Or at the very least these sites act as a nice place to share ideas or even just talk/debate sports. And they certainly wouldn't waste anybody's time with all this nonsense. My father gave me good advice in this regard when I was just a boy growing up. He said "Son, as you go through life, keep your mouth shut and try not to show your ass to everyone." Brings a tear to my eye.

So, as I said, these posters only goal is to disrupt and draw attention to themselves. With that in mind, I propose that the best solution to these folks is every time they post in any thread don't get into a debate, argument, or name calling with them. That is what they need more than anything else in this world. I would ask you not to respond to them at all in my threads because that recognizes their existence which also makes them happy. All are welcome in my threads. And you are free to disagree with anything I say or do. But when I have determined that anyone is indeed not at all interested in talking sports or gambling, I am going to respond very simply with

"What are you wearing?"

Thanks KJ. We will just keep on keeping on. They do have elite bouncers here. I think they can't kill a poster just because he pisses someone off. Like umpires you have to say certain magic words to get ejected. Would you believe in another life I was a mod at covers? Was about 20 years ago but it was fun banning folks. Talk about a target rich environment. GL

Thanks Pirate. When they do come in just say "What are you wearing?" Never anything more than that. Always respond to their posts with that. Trust me without the spotlight they will get bored and leave or say the magic words to you and get bounced. Either way it drives them nuts. GL

Thanks Wise. After 20 years together you and I both know, they are going to come in get banned and come back as a new member name. Not much the mods can do but take out the trash when they cross the line. As you know I don't normally go into other peoples threads but I will check out Paints threads. GL
 
I haven't been to covers in 5 years

I did create a user name once because I honestly thought tuckfexas was going to commit suicide that night and tried to talk him off the ledge. Got banned because CTG was in my user name lol. Lasted 12 hours there max. But it was worth it, he fought on to post again.

That place just feels like worms are crawling all over

Kid you not, I joined here in 2007/2008 and I haven't done another forum, ever. Guess I know it would be a let down anywhere else.
 
Damn Pirate I never knew how good you are at MLB. Keep it up my friend. I don't normally go into others peoples threads because years ago I offered an opinion on a game and it pissed the original poster off because he thought I was correcting him. I didn't mean to and that wasn't my intent but I vowed to stay away from other threads so I didn't do anything by accident. GL
 
I haven't been to covers other to than to use their stats in 15 years. I left when we started Winnerscirclesports. But it was before that when Cantpickmynose came into covers and invited me to come here. (2004? maybe) I don't remember exactly. I have to say I always took the mod night shift at covers because it was the most action usually. They had a secret mod chat room, which I'm sure they have here, so we could tell each other when a poster was getting out of control and needed watching. I'm sure Steed has cussed me out repeatedly in there here because I keep whining about losing the rolling laughing guy. GL

As I've often responded to my own personal troll, "rent-fucking free", because that's the way they roll. It becomes an obsession with those who little else to do with their pitiful lives except to denigrate others.

Just keep doing what you do best, just like Bloodhound told me, you da' man in MLB.

Thanks Inzane. Blood was the best there ever was in college football but he couldn't pick MLB to save his ass. I appreciate the compliment but coming from him just about anyone is the man in MLB. GL :)
 
Now that hurts. I was like 50 in 2000 and still trying to figure out all this internet stuff. Time to move buildings. Back in a few. GL

I just checked mine as well out of curiosity. Joined in Dec 2006, after WCS closed. I don't offer or post near as much as the talented cappers here, but I appreciate their time and contributions more than they know. As I am what could be considered a recreational type gambler, this approach fits my style and devotion of time to the gaming side of sports. But I've also enjoyed the contests and been involved in fantasy leagues for years with folks on the site and over the years have been made to feel like one of the gang. Much respect to most on here.

Yeah the peeps have done well to make this a community and not just some gamblin' board

I worked in industry (AT&T) for 20 years then I became a teacher at 40. Had to wear a tie so I feel you KJ. Until one day I broke up a fight and damn near got strangled because one of the kids grabbed the tie by accident. I told the principal either I break up fights or wear a tie you choose. He said I would look good at work every day in a golf shirt. G

Thanks for posting Wire. I've been using your capping process as a starting point to handicap bases over the past month with very good results. I appreciate you explaining how you do it.

I have an FSU tie and I'm not a fan but was in Tallahassee for Spring Break 1995 and had a professor that was a die hard Seminole so I bought. First class after SB he basically told me I could sleep through the final and get an A after wearing that. Best $12 I ever spent.
 
OK here's the really funny part. These "new members" don't realize that when they come into a thread their names are recorded at the bottom under the member list. No doubt the mods can come and go without it recording them but all of us get recorded and there's nothing we can do to erase it. Of course, legit members don't ever want or need to erase it but if you want a really good laugh check out who has viewed this thread at the bottom. And he seems to have taken my dad's sage advice! GL
 
I agree. I just read Cash's posts from yesterday. I knew he would not be pleased. Sorry he saw that.

The damn shame of it is all are welcome at this site. I will discuss sports and gambling with anyone. We can disagree without getting pissed off because that's what makes for good discussion. It's a shame all people don't take advantage of that in here. There are some really good and nice people not to mention truly knowledgeable people and some of these guys should lay down their animosity and try to get to know people and contribute. They might find out it's more rewarding to do that than try to start shit. GL

I’m seeing the same names consistently badgering wins-losses etc.. Usually a sign of someone who blindly tailed and wagered too large of an amount and hasn’t gotten over it.
