Thanks Pirate. Sorry the Yanks lost. GL
That game went exactly as I planned last night right up to the Yanks bringing in Cortes, who hadn't pitched in a month, and as he always does, he threw a first pitch fastball that still hasn't landed yet. What is the impact of that? Nothing really as far as the fundamentals of the series. The Yanks only need to split the first two games to take the home field advantage back to NY. And as I have always said emotions don't play into the actual performance of the game. You play ice cold if you want to perform at your peak.
But there can be a psychological impact from a game like that. It is in Judge's mind that he didn't come through when they walked Soto to pitch to him with the game on the line. It's certainly on Cortes's mind that he gave up a moon ball fast ball on his first pitch. It is on the Dodgers mind that they can come back from any deficit at any time, and it is also on the Yankees mind that no matter what they do they can't beat those guys. These things can have an impact on the series, but it was just the first game, so this is more something to watch for than it is to ring alarm bells. And for the record, I was laughing my ass off that they walked Soto to pitch to Judge which I thought was the dumbest move I have ever seen. Dumbest right up until it worked. Cudos to Roberts for that move.
NYY ML +120 -50/+60 - I see both starters as being relatively equal, and I am counting on the Yankee bats to come alive, but I am willing to change my mind about this series if LA hammers Rodon and proves they are invincible.
As for the total, runs should be scored again today. GL
