Small card so a good time for a rant.......
First, you may not know it, but the letters ABS are going to impact you next year in MLB. They stand for Automatic Balls and Strikes. They are doing it in the minors now and they will trot it out at the winter meetings next year for the big league. Using the strike box they have on TV now, a team gets two challenges on balls and strikes. If it works, they get to continue like their play challenge now. They figure to give a team two or three challenges. The umps hate it but that's because they suck so badly on their calls. But just another thing to see before they put a fucking robot behind the plate. That would actually be fun though because when the other managers start yelling from the dugout the robot wouldn't give a fuck.
Next, enough with the bullshit stats. WAR. Something like wins above replacement or some such shit. This little gem is really insightful to the fans because it basically measures how many more wins you get or better performance you get from a player as opposed to who you may replace them with. I have seen some horseshit stats come to baseball (OPS which is totally worthless comes to mind) but this WAR stuff is really stupid. So, what they are basically measuring is how well say an Aaron Judge performs as opposed to who you could get to replace him. Riiiiight. As if there is someone out there that could take his place. I'm going to say when it comes to Judge, Soto, Freeman, Ohtani, and maybe only 20 or 30 other players there is no fucking replacement for them so why is this stat even out there? All of these players have a WAR rating of 2 or 3 million. Stupid shit. Anything to distract the fans from the truly horrible product out there on the field. And there still isn't a new pitch called a "sweeper". It's a damn curve ball so cut that shit out.
