A rant or two.....
- Have you been to a game or at least seen one on TV? There's no one there. Not enough people to start a good street fight. Seriously, the vendors are selling shit to each other. Maybe if MLB and these greedy owners started selling tickets for $10 they would get folks to visit. Let's do the math shall we? They are selling 10,000 tickets at $40 each and that's a take of $400,000 a game. Or they could sell them 50,000 at $10 each for a take of $500,000. 82 home games that comes to an increased profit of 8.2 million a year. And then if the folks are there the vendors could actually sell shit to the fans. WOW!!!! What a concept. I guess MLB owners hate money.
- The hitting is so bad they are actually putting hitters first pitch strike percentage instead of batting averages next to the starting hitting lineups. You read that right "hitters" not pitchers first pitch strikes to tell you that the hitting is much more aggressive this year. Of course, if a hitter swings at a first pitch so far out of the strike zone a catcher has to dive for it, or they stand there and watch a cookie go right down the middle that is also considered a hitter getting a first pitch strike. And fans just sit there with their mouths open drooling and say "Oh. Uh huh."
- Everyone also knows by now an OPS of .600 means you suck and aren't hitting over .220 so just stop using that to try and distract fans from the horrible hitting.
- And please stop using velocity off the bat. It's 100 mph right into a fielder's glove for an out. "But wow Skippy did you see how hard he hit it?" Still trying to distract from the shitty hitting with this stat. One of the biggest hits in the history of baseball was travelling almost 5 mph when it dribbled between Bill Bucknor's legs.
- The newest thing to hit the airwaves is the torpedo bat. Remember those? Did you know not only Aaron Judge doesn't use one but Francisco Lindor with the Mets used one ALL last year? Where was the hype then? He hit .273 with 33 HR's. Not bad but not earth shaking because he hit 31 HR's the year before without the new magic bat.
- And the slogan from the marketing geniuses that bring you MLB "Baseball it's something else." My God is that catchy or what? Although truth be told I actually agree with them. Baseball is something else because today baseball sure as fuck doesn't resemble anything I ever knew as baseball.
- Finally, I was watching a game, and the announcer actually said the pitcher had a new pitch combining a sinker and a slider. He called it a "Slinker". And he wasn't kidding. His partner said, "Gosh really?" Jesus wept.
