The Mets have acquired a setup man for new closer Francisco Rodriguez — and that setup man is another closer from the American League West. J.J. Putz is headed to New York in a three-team trade with the Mariners and Indians, according to major-league sources. Under terms of the deal, the Mets get Putz, outfielder Jeremy Reed and reliever Sean Green from Seattle. The Mariners receive reliever Aaron Heilman, outfielder Endy Chavez and first baseman Mike Carp from the Mets. They also get Franklin Gutierrez from the Indians and minor leaguers. The Indians get reliever Joe Smith from the Mets and infielder Luis Valbuena from Seattle. From the Mets' perspective, the deal is Heilman and Smith for Putz. Chavez and Reed are simply an exchange of backup outfielders; Smith and Green are an exchange of right-handed groundball specialists. from worse bullpen to best bullpen ha ha u mad? http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/8922020/Wednesday-MLB-winter-meetings-blog

helps the Mutts big time.

i don't understand the deal though from the Injuns perspective. the M's get a couple pieces...the Injuns though are another story.

bottom line...if Putz is healthy, it's a home run for them. wtf is in this for indians?

mets finally get rid of hellman

that guy has been a curse in the mets pen for years now.

that alone is an improvment.

is putz the right person for a setup man role though?
he hasnt done it since 2006 when he was preceding guardado and has become accustomed to being the closer...

i know the mutts were looking at hoffman too but the main concern was that hes always been a closer and probably wouldnt be the right man for that role. plus hes old as fuck anyways:whip:

I thought only winning teams had Haters.....:tiphat:

Good move, Mets shoring up that gawd awful pen...although, as Cap mentioned is Putz going to be happy as a set-up man?

Word here on the radio is Putz is not happy with the set-up role.....to fucking bad JJ is what I think.

no shit. after last year, he's got a lot to prove (again).

on another note...what surprises me about the M's side of this is Morrow. they went to the trouble of sending him to the minors mid-season (joba-style) to try to stretch him out for a future as a starter. and he came back to throw a gem (as a SP) against the yanks, if i remember right.
anyways, i guess this means they'll be moving Morrow back to the closer role.

LOL@yankee fan dissin the Mets how did yall do in the playoffs? oh my fault That said, in a report for the Seattle Times, Geoff Baker quotes Putz as saying: “It’s a new challenge and I’m excited about it… I’m going to a new team that’s going to be very competitive. Francisco Rodriguez is a great closer and with Sean Green going as well, we should have a great bullpen.”

LMAO @ a Mutts fan EVER dissing on The Yanks...y'all still celebrating that WS win in 1986?

Mets will always be 2nd class citizens in The Big Apple........:tiphat:
Would love to see another Subway Series...#27 would be all that more sweeter......:shake:

son...don't talk trash to me. i've dissed the Mutts many times...but that laugh response was towards the philly fan's over-confidence.

though the beltran/heart and reyes/brain comment has me laughing, cuz bottom line it's true.

The WFC could not be less concerned

Theyre still a bunch of choking losers with no heart

Word. I see K-Rod pulled the Beltran special today and called the division to the Amusin Mutts. I wonder if he'll cry like the bitch Beltran after the Mets get eliminated again. HAHAHAHA Beltran you little sobbing bitch. DEPORT THE METS!FUCK YOU NEW YORK!

Second thought, the Mets are the NL East team to beat in Dance Dance Revolution. They've got no peers in that game.

ok...now i understand the deal from the tribe's perspective. yeah, they improved the pen a bit. but guttierez was worth more than that.

nope...this was about clearing a path to the bigs for LaPorta. don't know why it didn't click for me at the beginning...but laporta's gonna be a huge bat for the tribe, for many years to come...and they had too many OFers, plus hafner.

SO TRUE.

Yankees >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Mets

Seriously though, as a WFC Phan, KRod and Putz do nothing to scare me

One is an overrated headcase who will melt down when the pressure's on (so he should fit in nicely on his new team) and the other is a HGH user who is in the middle of doing his best Eric Gagne career arc impression...

Not worried.
