Memphis lineman shot to death.

They will be still having the game right b/c the article i read on yahoo stated that all classes will be canceled for today at least maybe tommorow as well. All dormatory buildings were shut down. If the entire campus is basically shut down what would the possibility be of cancelling a game?

First of all, this is just tragic. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

From what I gather, the reason they canceled classes today was due to the VT incident. If this was part of something larger, which it wasn't....campus officials just wanted to be sure.

As far as the game is concerned, according to Memphis' website, the game will go on as scheduled. I kinda disagree with this. Even though Bradford may have been a 3rd string DT, he was still a member of this team. To play a game the very next day is a little rushed if you ask me. But athletic officials will go on with it, with a moment of silence beforehand.

I heard that one of the reasons given to police as to why he had $3k cash on him was that he won it at a casino in Tunica. This will be the easiest story to (dis)prove because of the amount of cameras at casinos.

I agree with you HC. If it was my son that got killed and he was part of that team, I might find that in poor taste. No, it WOULD be in poor taste. Geez.

I took Memphis at 1.5, before I heard about this.
It's worth keeping in mind that this will be their 3d game in 11 days, as well as the potential mental devastation following the way they lost to Arky State. Now this. It's hard to say whether a teammate's death will serve as added motivation or the apple that turns over the cart.

I agree, first thing I think of is that this is a tragedy.

But I swear, and I wish it wasn't like this, but one of the things that always pops into my head is, 'I wonder if this was gambling related.'

First this is a very unfortunate incident. Second I will play against Memphis. They will not have a clear head to play. Yeah, you'd like to go out there and win one for your fallen team member. But when something like this happens, football is really not that important. i am surprised they are playing this.

Terrible tradegy.

I also had similar thoughts beofre i knew he was a role player due to the shady involvings of this university

As far as the game being played. I could see if this was a regular Saturday titl and giving players/students/family time to grieve. I guess it was a unanimous vote by team to play.
