LSU DC Kevin Steele To Auburn

He jumps out of the frying pan and in to the fire. If Gus doesn't win 9 next year, then he's gone.

apparently a big deal was that he already had 7 years into Alabama's state pension, and one needs 10 years to be eligible.

How about that? These guys are state employees, get paid 700k-6 milly a year and then get a fucking pension to boot.

Maybe he thinks he will get a shot at the HC position.

LSU was only offering a 2 year deal for the DC job he took, which caused many guys(there was like 30 names in leaked emails) to balk at the job....LSU obv had a plan in place( or an attempted one ) that was well documented publicly at the end of the reg season.

The list is vast, but LSU should be able to get a good name in here.......

Not a lot of guys that can boast they can do less with more like he can. This was prob LSU worst defense in a decade and now he goes from ribeye to ground turkey in terms of talent. Another Auburn decision that I'm happy about. Great recruiter but he won't be around long enough to really pay off, IMO. Auburn needs to pay Louisville QB 180k to transfer there if Gus wants to make it to 2017

Bo Pelini
Job: Youngstown State (Head Coach)
Age: 48
Salary: $214,000
Skinny: Pelini was LSU’s defensive coordinator when the Tigers won the BCS crown in 2007, and he has head coaching experience at a major school before he was fired at Nebraska. A source tells us that Les Miles will reach out to gauge interest, but word is it will not be easy to get him out of Youngstown, Ohio where he was born. Pelini has kids around the high school age and uprooting the family is an obstacle for anyone.
Clancy Pendergast
Job: San Francisco 49ers (Inside Linebackers)
Age: 48
Salary: Not Published
Skinny: Pendergast has five years of coordinator experience at the NFL level and spent three years in the Pac-12, two at Cal and one at USC. He was interested in the LSU opening when Les Miles hired Kevin Steele. Sources tell us that he would love the opportunity to reunite with Ed Orgeron and Austin Thomas at LSU. Pendergast has only been with the 49ers for the 2015 campaign, and with San Francisco out of the playoff hunt timing would not be an issue.
Dave Aranda
Job: Wisconsin (Defensive Coordinator)
Salary: $522,200
Skinny: Aranda spoke with LSU at length about the job last year and sources said he was interested. However, a roadblock was the 2-year contract that Joe Alleva was offering that rubbed so many the wrong way. Aranda’s background also includes coaching linebackers, just like Kevin Steele, so that could also come into play.
Ed Orgeron
Job: LSU (Defensive Line)
Age: 54
Salary: $445,000
Skinny: Orgeron loves it in Baton Rouge and LSU needs to increase his salary, which is already in the works. He is known for being one of the top defensive line coaches and best recruiters in the land. Orgeron has never been a DC and word is he enjoys being the DL coach where he can focus on his position and spend more time recruiting, as opposed to having to worry about game-planning, so that could be an issue.
Brent Venables
Job: Clemson (Defensive Coordinator)
Age: 45
Salary: $1.4 Million
Skinny: Venables was mentioned as a possibility the last time around and word is he wants to get back closer to his old stomping ground of the Big 12 and recruiting in Texas. Venables is one who fits the mold of a young guy who would relate well to recruits and LSU can offer him more money than he is currently making. However, with Clemson’s recent success, Dabo Swinney will be able to pay him more as well, so money may not be a big factor.
Mike Stoops
Job: Oklahoma (Defensive Coordinator)
Age: 54
Salary: $857,400
Skinny: Stoops met with LSU the last time around and sources say that there was interest coming from both sides, although LSU’s interest was not as strong. He has plenty of experience that includes nine years as a defensive coordinator with the Sooners to go with eight years as the headman at Arizona. The Sooners had the top defense in the Big 12 this year and made the College Football Playoff. Timing could be an issue if the Sooners make it to the championship game.
Phil Bennett
Job: Baylor (Defensive Coordinator)
Age: 60
Salary: $981,540
Skinny: Bennett served as defensive coordinator at LSU under Curley Hallman and is considered a top coordinator by some. He has a tight relationship with former LSU defensive line coach Pete Jenkins and his name came up some during LSU’s defensive coordinator search following the 2008 campaign. An issue, however, is some old-time boosters were rubbed the wrong way in the past and we saw how political things can play out just a month ago.
Gene Chizik
Job: North Carolina (Defensive Coordinator)
Age: 54
Salary: $250,000
Skinny: Chizik has plenty of experience in the SEC from his days at Auburn and word is he wants to get back into the league. North Carolina did not have great success this year, finishing 13th in the ACC in total defense (435.9 YPG), so his name is not a real hot commodity.

venerbles, Aranda, maybe Chizik. Any DC moving horizontally, any up and comer

After UNC's defensive performance against Baylor the other night, Chizik's name should never appear on any list for a DC opening - all baylor did was run the wildcat, no adjustments, just a horrible effort.

twink u win just cuz steele is gone, unless u hired someone like billy davis from the eagles lol

they did it without even a sniff of a threat of a QB too. un fucking real.

Great hire. Now if you can get a better OC in 2017 you will be able to compete with Bama again when Saban retires in 2020

Really like what I've heard and read about Aranda so far. Wondering if Fondy or anyone else who has followed him more closely have any thoughts on what we can expect, how long it may take the defense to get up to speed, and what he may do during the transition until he has the players to fit his system. Wondering as a fan first but also curious from the capping perspective...will they be slower than expected out of the gate, etc?

The DL and secondary should be solid next year while the LB group will be thin and inexperienced.

This may be a bit technical and nerdy as well as geared toward the Wisconsin 14/15 personnel, but this is worth a read. http://www.footballstudyhall.com/20...le-hybrid-defense-Aranda-Caputo-Biegel-McEvoy

what you said is true, but he will be a kid in a candy store

I think he will do the things he did, but now with better athletes...blitzes,etc

should be fun....the class is coming

wisky is just very sound. they do their jobs. they do them well. really good hire. makes me happy.
