Les Miles introduction at Kansas

So the MadHatter made his Lawrence debut at last nights KU basketball affair against Stanford. In my opinion it was rather bizarre and Miles didn’t come off as very convincing. Baby Jay (Big Jay’s love child) presented Coach Miles with a plate of grass, nay, a plate of “Kansas Wheat Grass” and Coach Miles proceeded to eat some of it. He gave a little pep talk and said they would win and win consistently. Then to end it he did a Rock Chalk Jayhawk but it didn’t seem to flow well but the crowd helped him through it.

Les should produce another Airplane movie or something. He is kooky.

I wondered about Les and his grass eating going to Kansas with a turf field. Will the plate of grass be a weekly thing, or will he start eating the rubber pellets in the turf?

Let's not dismiss Les so quickly.

He made Oklahoma State respectable when no one who knew anything about Okla State history thought it was possible. He beat Oklahoma twice in his short stay--including at Oklahoma when he was a 28-point dog--revived hope among students and alums and donors and led to what Oklahoma State is today.

He is the winningest coach in LSU history. Yes, even better than Saban. That takes some doing and he did it competing in the toughest division in football. His stay ended badly because for reasons probably even he cannot fathom he got to where he didn't even want to run a play, just punt and let his world-class defense back on the field, but he won a national title and outperformed any other coach LSU ever had. Strange because his reputation was as an offensive guru throughout his career.

He should be an excellent hire for Kansas if he does what they hired him to do. Make the program competitive (should be easy because he's starting with more talent than Oklahoma State had when he got there), get the alums behind the program, get alums to open their pocketbooks, and lead the way in raising money to help Kansas im;prove the stadium and facilities.

Kansas is one of those schools where it is historically hard to win so it's not a cinch, but he has the stature to do the off-the-field things listed in the last paragraph.

Unfortunately I'm afraid success at LSU got to Les's head. He became the try to hard version of Gundy at pressers. School will, and should, put their resouces into the hoops program. Wink wink

I tend to agree. If you want to hire a good football coach, put Terry Don Phillips in charge. He hired Miles, Gundy, and Swinney at OSU and Clemson, and that means he's batting a thousand in my book.
