For today take a long look at the Cotto Jr/Scace combo in the fifth and if you can say why don't finish itm please spill it. In the following race, even though trainer's off to a slow start, give top credence to Chinanote. Keyed and standards are in effect. Scr's other than the 1 or 1A in the fifth should be fine (80%) but as always, you have the final say in what you wager. BOL with your action today.

pacman,
although i think i understand what you mean by "keyed", i am unsure what you mean by standards.

although i've only wagered on ponies about two years, i find it fascinating and very difficult. i am befuddled, i think, by HOW to wager as much as anything.

Good Evening patternseeker,

Thank you for your comments and questions.

Here are the definitions we use:

"Key": To state your choice(s) will finish in a certain position in order for your ticket to cash

"Standards": Wagers in the win, place and show pools.

Wagering upon t'breds can at times be very challenging. One must remember, not only are you `capping the same information others have but you're playing against everyone else (wagering).

One of the first things taught to myself was to try and identify the contenders/winner for the race. Have a checklist used to "cross-off/out" those whom do not think will win (for various reasons). Once it gets down to a workable amount, they it's time to look deeper at the stats/figures to try and uncover an item or two that might give an indication of what might happen this race (looking for similar conditions in previous races). Was also told that the best way to make money (Tampa Bay Downs) in the long run was to use win and place wagers for equal portions giving your choice a chance to finish second and you still cash a ticket. Almost forgot, looking for a horse of value (one that will pay about $4.00 to place if doesn't win) is important as well.

Hope this helps, if not say so and will go at it from another direction. BOL with your Thursday action.

nice work, as always, Pac, and thanks for your reply.

i really like the horses, so hopefully i can keep learning....

i lived in louisville for awhile, back in the days before the online thing was so common, so i saw both winners and losers at the track, and was always interested in what separates the two.

patternseeker,

Thank you. As told to others, if you have a comment and/or question, place it in thread (or PM since this feature is usable here) and the next time log in, you (others) will get response. Read each and every post before posting either the day's recap or next day's action. Sometimes it could be a day but most times its the same day/night.

Glad you enjoy the t'breds. Everyone, let me repeat that EVERYONE, can learn something from another be it t'bred and/or sports wagering. Each person must do it a way that works for them.

Thanks for the Louisville information. Would be willing to bet you a shinny nickel, you've got some great Derby related stories - hopefully one day you'll post some of them. As for what separates winners from losers depends on a number of things. For example, the type of action they played, what money management did they employ, there are several other factors as well but those JUMP out right now. Continued success with you venues.

a great day at TB.....

thanks for the picks.

patternseeker,

Glad you enjoyed yourself. You're welcome. Remember, past results do not always g'tee future rewards and should be enjoyed for the day (put profit in the bank) and move forward to the next day. Knowing the track inside and out is a very good way to earn wealth from it. :smiley_acbe:

For today, Wednesday the 16th of January 2008.

Going to take a shot on a couple running at GP today. The first is Fireonthewire in the opener - there certainly is no value from the m/l but will take a chance and dump into the third pool to regain a little at less risk. The second and last is the rail runner in the third, Nyuk Nyuk Nyuk; will use this one in standards and keys. Good luck with your selections and action today.

Comments For Friday, 01.18.08, From Tampa Bay Downs

4/ #3 Wigglesworth: previous trip over the surface might just be the key to getting the victory.

5/ #3 Westcoasteastcoast and #6 Timefordaddy have gotten this one's attention

6/ <TURF> #5 Mr. D is very interesting if makes it to post today while #10 Mister Mombassa will have to make it happen from the outside. Damascus Light (AE #11) looms.

9/ #2 ThatstheFact Jack and #6 Mr d'Or are the top choices to defeat Kirk Z's #8 Blue Pepsi Lodge. If all three head to post, will have weighted win dutch action on them.

10/ <TURF> #2 Wild Party Gal would be rated higher if not for the jock but is still worthy. #3 Carwell (IRE) comes from the barn of Charles Simon - who is vastly underrated for here. If Proctor's AE (#11 Stephi Babe) gets in, this race all of a sudden is very intersting.

11/ #4 Doctor Duke (K.O. trained) and #6 Fly to Mars (Andrade) are give a better than average chance of success today.

A couple of tidbits for this meet:
1) Odds should NEVER be a reason to play on/off a horse for this track. The publics' top choice wins about 33% of the time.
2) Back-to-back booters are a rarity this meet - under 5%.

Good luck with your selections and action today.

Hey Pacman, are these your actual picks for todays card?

Good Morning Kramer,

Everything listed will be on at least one ticket. There are several "sheets" that are for each day (Look Ahead, Comments, Wagering Guide and at least two others). For various reasons am unable to list all on them. Hope you understand. Good luck with your selections and action today.

hey pac, a note from the remedial section:

what do you mean by "back to back booters"?

also, in your answer to Kramer, "sheets" are other handicapping tools?

as always, i appreciate your time, and, not that you need it, but BOL

patternseeker,

Sorry for any confusion.

"back-to-back booters" refers to jockeys winning back-to-back races.

"sheets". Have a series of papers/pages of information (various types) for each day of racing action.

Hope this helps paint a clearer picture. Thank you and to you as well.

Recapping today's races, one finds a pair of winners (neither paying double-digits) and a runner-up (place finisher). Two S. races on Saturday's card.

patternseeker,

You're welcome and sorry you got the cold, freezing weather - far better for you to have it than us, at least people there should have a clue how to handle it; here it would literally shut down cities until it melted away as people don't handle snow and ice very well. Rain, hurricanes and things of this nature, no problem. I do not envy your situation but wish you the best until it gets better for you.
