lololol

Reason he's not taking Nasri (he literally just said it on TV, here's a translation for you):

"Samir Nasri is a starter in a big club that won the Premier League, he is an important part of Manchester City. However his performances for the French NT are not up to his ones at Manchester and he is not a starter for us. And when he doesn't start, he is not happy."

Still kinda surprised about the France team. Players who revolted in 2010 are back on the team.

Ecuador's performances away from Quito have been less than inspiring. I will be interested to see how they do with at least a little bit of a home (continent) advantage in this group. La Tri qualified in 2002 and 2006 before missing in 2010, but have yet to get out of the round of 16. Antonio Valencia will have to play like the stud he is at ManU and now has the captain's armband at 28. Losing Chucho Benitez to the sudden heart attack in his first-ever game in Qatar's heat last summer has been something that Reinaldo Rueda's side will have to continue to overcome, but Jefferson Montero's goal back in October essentially guaranteed their spot in Brazil, allowing them the last nine months to prep with life without Benitez, both on the pitch and in the more literal manner. Forecasting how France will do is never easy, but given these games are in Brazil, I give the Ecuadorians a real shot at winning the group.

Ckr-

I watched the second half of they friendly on Saturday and thought the game was fairly wide open. I didn't walk away that impressed with Ecuador on the defensive end, but again they may have been trying things out and they may be more defensive in the WC. They seem to have some talent on the offensive end, and should be able to put some pressure on defenses. Were most of their starters playing in that one, do you know?

They are in a favorable group for sure( sans France)

bravos - wingers are Ecuador's main strength, which leads itself to open games more times than not. They will deploy either a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3, with the emphasis on getting Valencia (RW) or Montero (LW) the ball and going. In the CONMEBOL qualifiers, Ecuador allowed just 16 goals, so despite scoring fewer than all other 8 teams, they were able to place fourth. In this last friendly, they played most guys i expect in the starting XI. Rueda sent out his side in a modified 4-1-4-1 with Castillo holding in front of the defense, while Ayoví, usually a striker, at the side of Méndez in the central midfield. Martínez started up front, with both Antonio and Enner Valencia on the bench. They went back to a 4-4-2 after the half when you started watching, after Castillo's injury when he and Montez both went down.

Per ESPN blogger:

'Castillo's participation in the World Cup is in serious doubt as a result of an injury he picked up in a sickening clash with Mexico's Luis Montes in the 35th minute. The Mexico midfielder came off worse, suffering what looked to be a fractured tibia, but Castillo was also stretched off. Early reports suggest he has suffered a torn ligament, but the full extent of the damage will only be known after he undergoes an MRI scan. If Castillo is ruled out of the World Cup it will be a major blow to Rueda, who was counting on the experienced midfielder to form a solid central base alongside Christian Noboa. In his absence, Carlos Gruezo is the most obvious like-for-like replacement but his youth may count against him. Indeed, Rueda could turn to Oswaldo Minda, who was part of his preliminary 30-man squad but did not travel to the United States for Saturday's match.'

Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery has been ruled out of France's FIFA World Cup™ campaign, along with Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier.
Montpellier's Remy Cabella and Southampton's Morgan Schneiderlin will replace the duo, whose absence was announced by Didier Deschamps at a press conference in Clairefontaine ahead of his side's departure to Brazil.

Ecuador's performances away from Quito have been less than inspiring. I will be interested to see how they do with at least a little bit of a home (continent) advantage in this group. La Tri qualified in 2002 and 2006 before missing in 2010, but have yet to get out of the round of 16. Antonio Valencia will have to play like the stud he is at ManU and now has the captain's armband at 28. even playing in the same continent and not in Quito they are awful.
Argies are also subject to playing shit on the road but again they only suffer when it's in high altitude. Ecuador will have 0 advantage paying Brasil, people will say they will have more fans....sure maybe vs Honduras but the Swiss and French will be well traveled.

i really like this Swiss team though surprise they are -150 to qualify.

It would be a big disappointment if we don't qualify from this group; the 1st game against Ecuador will be crucial, a defeat and the pressure will be huge for this young team against France in the 2nd game. For those interested, a very good preview of the swiss team and especially the probable Swiss starting XI: http://www.zonalmarking.net/2014/06/10/switzerland-true-dark-horses.
As vanzack pointed out, Switzerland only conceded 1 goal in the last 2 World Cup (7 games), the problem was that we defended very well but the offense was limited. I still think the general defensive organisation is the strength of the team, but the offense has progressed over the last few years with more creativity although the team is a bit dependent on Shaqiri, he creates chances for himself and for the other players. The negative side may be that almost all offensive players are young and don't have the experience of the big stage, but it's not necessarily a bad thing if they play freely and start with a positive result in the first game. Moreover, I think we have one of the best pair of full-backs in Lichtsteiner and Rodriguez, they are solid defensively but also add a lot of good things offensively.
