General Hockey Betting Question

So the Bruins tonight for 1st period are -290 money line or - 1/2 at even. WTF is the difference? If they are covering 1/2 they are up by one goal & winning which is the same as the ML, no? Or does the ML push if the game is tied?

Thanks Scope, haven't checked this thread in a while. I got the same answer from Bovada Customer Service. There's one other similar wager that has me even more perplexed. I'll use tonight's Wild/Caps game as the example:

First period - Caps -1/2 +170
1st Period 3 way ML - Caps +155

I don't get it. In the 3 way ML Caps need to be ahead, otherwise it would be the same as the typical 1P ML where they are -140 which gives the luxury of a push. So WTF is the difference in the two examples I listed above?

sometimes books just line bets differently that are similar, see it a lot with soccer where its off by a few cents

but ya that is the same bet

3 way means win or its a loss, and the -.5 is the same thing

Thanks for the confirmation teed, definitely pays to weigh those options.
