  • stl goes home after winning series at milw then getting beat up in pitt. looper is decent-size fave to a hot houston team. i like stl to rebound
  • cleveland plays a dh tonight in kc, then goes back home to take on the yankees, who i think still want to avenge last yr's playoff loss.
  • detroit's bats recently + santana on road + laa is emotionally and physically drained after extracting their revenge on boston at fenway = detroit win. robertson sucks but so does santana, maybe the over is the best way to play this game
  • texas is favored:36_11_6: how does minny rebound from their spanking in oakland today?

leans

Phillies/Pirates +114
I like pirates home dog here. Phillies didnt impress me yesterday. They didnt win, they just didnt lose. Howard is struggling, Rollins and Victorino are still out and they will have Eaton on the mound, who has some +8 ERA. But this means nothing because that games were in 2003. Duke has one good start at home (ERA 1.29) this year against Cubs. And also Pirates bullpen is very strong at home (ERA 2.27).

Braves +124/Mets
Both young pitchers. Like Braves here more then Mets, but only concern is their road record 3-7. On other side Mets are strong at home 6-3. No interest in this game at the moment.

Cubs-123/Washington
Cubs have avg 8 runs against lefties and are hitting them 0.302. Dempster is very good as a starter this season. Bullpen is on Cubs side. I think -123 is takeable. Funny is that that Perez has lowest ERA in Washington but 0-3.

Marlins/Brewers RL +147
What will I do with my Brewers. Florida is nice suprise this season. Their bullpen has 1.38 ERA on the road. Olsen is very good. On other side also Gallardo is great. In matchup against Harang he pitched 7 innings and allowed 1 run. Don't know what to do with this game. Only reasonable bet could be RL, because ML odds are to low.

Astros+123/Cardinals

Cardinals are better then last year, but I like Astros this year. I thought that they will be better, but ok. Season is long. They have Tejada, Lee, Berkman, Pence. This is not naive lineup. And we have Chacon who is really good this season with an ERA 2.77 (on the road even better 1.29). On other side Looper last three starts ERA 7.24. Bullpen is on Cardinals side. But still I like plus money on Astros.

D'Backs+100/Padres
Wolf is really good this season, but if we look at the bullpens and lineups. Arizona is better in every other segment of the game. Also RJ JOHNSON is 13-7 when starting against SAN DIEGO with an ERA of 2.52 and a WHIP of 1.043. Arizona is the best team right now in the league. Best in offense, good pitching and I have to back them for this prices...

Reds-134 (first lean is under)/Giants
I don't play under -130. So maybe under.

Rockies/Dodgers-146
Too low odds. No interests.

Yankees-106/Indians
Pettitte is solid right now on other side we have two things to think. First is Byrd, who I don't trust right now. And Indians also can't hit lefties. They are not that good against lefties- have just avg 3.9 runs against them.

Angels/Tigers-111 (first lean is over)
I like over here. Reasons:
-ROBERTSON is 0-4 when starting against LA ANGELS with an ERA of 8.91 and a WHIP of 1.920
-Santana on the road
-Tigers are hot
-Angels are one of the best scoring teams in the league
-Bullpens are nothing special in whole fucking league

Red Sox-126/Rays
WAKEFIELD is 17-3 when starting against TAMPA BAY with an ERA of 3.27 and a WHIP of 1.174

Twins/Rangers-125
Both teams lost yesterday very badly. If I have to pick a winner it would be Texas, but dont like this game.
MILLWOOD is 0-5 when starting against MINNESOTA with an ERA of 5.64 and a WHIP of 1.791

Blue Jays/Royals-102
Have to wait for some other stats and infos. Probably no play.

Orioles/White Sox-136
Burres has not good memories from Chicago. Last year he pitched here 1 inning and he allowed 7 runs. Buehrle has good record against Baltimore. Orioles bullpen is weak on the road. And I think also that WS have better lineup. Home win. I will take (probably) -1

Athletics+100(first lean is over)/Mariners
Batista played last game against LAA very good. Eveland is also excelent. But this will be real test for him, because Mariners hit lefties very good.
Bullpen is on Athletics side. I really like ex Red Sox pitchers plus Street even he fucked that first game in Japan.
But the line is on 8.5, what could be too low. Seattle hits lefties avg 6.4 runs on other side Athletics righties avg 5.2. Mariners bullpen has ERA 5.14, so they will have to hit.

This are my first leans and thoughts. No plays yet.

i hate new series, I want ump info.

I'd love to take KC, Burnett has been lousy so far this year and not putting up many Ks, although they've put up 3 W's in his games. Grienke just cruising but the back to back games kind of worries me, atleast they don't have to travel. No arms overworked yesterday so there's a plus, but definitely could be some tired fielders, lucky for the Royals there wasn't much going on with the way Lee and Bannister/Nunez/Soria pitched.

DeJesus, German, Teahan, Gordon only ones to play the field both games. Olivo C 1st game, DH 2nd. Butler DH 1st game, 1B 2nd game.

Word is that Howard will sit tommorow against Duke

I'm also interested in seeing whether Eveland can survive the M's.

Evelands faced 4 teams
CLE - .231 AVG vs LHP, 25th in the league (186 ABs); .325 OBP vs LHP, 21st in the league
CHW - .250 AVG vs LHP, 18th in the league (172 ABs); .378 OBP vs LHP, 4th in the league
TOR - .233 AVG vs LHP, 24th in the league (146 ABs); .333 OBP vs LHP, 19th in the league
KC - .247 AVG vs LHP, 20th in the league (170 ABs); .319 OBP vs LHP, 22nd in the league

Where do the M's rank among teams vs LHP?

SEA - .294 AVG vs LHP, 7th in the league (143 ABs); .352 OBP vs LHP, 13th in the league.

I'm not entirely sure about who the White Sox have faced all year, but the only LHP they saw before facing Eveland were Dontrelle, Kenny Rogers, Greg Smith. Dontrelle - just not pitching well, Kenny - not pitching well, Greg Smith - never seen before so same deal with Eveland he has that going with him. I'm not sure when these Walks came for the White Sox (33 vs LHP the most in the bigs) but I'm guessing probably came after this game, last 10 OBP vs LHP (not sure if this includes todays games) but it's .385 and last 5 .375.

Miguel Batista hasn't been very impressive this year but he pitched well at SAFECO last year. They lose a brutal game to BAL as their pen continues to struggle while the A's went OFF and have to travel now, maybe coming back to earth.

I may be looking at an OVER here... the wind is blowing lightly out the RF (projected) but that's not a huge factor.

OAK is 5-16 last 21 meetings
OVER is 6-2-1 last 9 meetings, OVER 6-3 in9 meetings @ SAFECO last year

Brewers are going to get fucked up friday

Olsen +140 all the way

Sanchez +115 in San Fran is a live dog to consider

Nate Robertson -115 gets a W tomorrow

& Wolf -113 over The Big Mullet seems like a good play

Good stuff fellas...

ReNew I wouldnt get that caught up in umps the way I see its more useless then helpful. I like to know the umps and naturally when I see a total I like its nice to have a corresponding umpire but its such a minimal factor in the game . The more information the harder the decisions and the less accurate we become. If a pitcher is off that day the ball likely aint making it to the catchers mitt so maybe the ump can make a bad situation worse but I think its more irrelevant then anything...just my opinion...

With Burnett the reason he isnt striking anyone out was because he cracked his nail in the winter or something and it never healed properly. He couldnt snap of his trademark curveball but as the season progresses its getting better. Might not see it in the stats but its something I have heard and read about a few times. So its not his velocity or health which is good its the ability to throw his curve which really is his strikeout pitch. As far as the game Toronto canthit and KC is downright TERRIBLE on offense. They had alot of chances vs Carmona early and did shit. They second game and granted Cliff Lee has been awesome so far why did they even show up? They had 3 Freakin hits and no walks ! They had 15 runs last 6 games before today and both SP did well vs there opponents last year. In fact the games at KC last year a 4 games set saw 21 combined runs in 4 games......Gonna be interesting here to say the least...hard to pass on UNDER but abit concerning since neither was sharp last outing...

Hard to not like Andy Pettite here. The Yanks offense showed alot of improvement in Chicago since there day off and ARod might be back , Pettitte looks like he back in form after failing behind in ST , the Yanks played well tonight but lost which makes a nice bounce back spot for them and how good Pettitte is after NYY losses , the Tribes struggles vs LHP and big indicator is Guillen in the opening series holding back Buerhle to start vs them , Tribe played a long DH today that started at 5 central time but NYY also ended late with the rain delay , and there has to be some sort of emphasis here for NY after being eliminated in the tough series vs Cle in the playoffs...so on paper at -120 vs a medicore Paul Byrd who has been decent vs NYY looks real enticing especially with CLE DH sweep..

Eaton really hit the wall vs NYM in the 5th on Monday curious to see how he rebounds and Pitts lineup is still terrible with there left side of the IF and LaRoche inmajor funks and McLouth cooling down some lately. Duke much better at home ...hard to get excited about this game...and I agree as a brewer backer today Philly didnt exactly beat Milw despite winning...

Tigers at home seems nice with Ervin Santana toeing the rubber on the road at even money. Robertson hasnt been great but not excited about LAA vs LHP yet...

Mets have not fared well vs RH SP now 3-8 but the lesser of 2 evils might be pelfrey at home though Jar Jar has been solid ...

Hard to pass up Wake indoors , after 2 losses and with garza coming off the DL . Little different scenario as Garza started the season and then got hurt but dont recall any SP coming off the DL and winning o date..

I could be foolish enough to back Texas again with Millwood..just think he is theone dude with some heart...Twinkies havent hit much and Blackburn is solid but I dont want to get interested in young SP in a hitters park vs a pack full of LHB no less....

As we saw today O's not hitting LHP all that well this season and well I will keep saying the White Sox are now built to face LHP...cant see how vazquez ws -130 to -140 vs Mussina and Buerhle is the same vs Burres...crazy to me.......

Looper v Chacon...over ? Cards pen used alot lately and while Loopers splits have been good ta home so far he hasnt taken his team deep into startsAstros hitting well as the hit Cueto hard today....

No denying Wolf has been solid but they havent hit a lick and how could I back them even with Unit getting into form still...Zona or pass as I said early on built to face LH SP.....

Mariners lost a couple of tough games past few days but Batista seemingly got on track last outing and M's hit LHP well...they blew a 5-1 lead today and a good sign is Ichiro hit a big 2 run Hr late...A's bolstered there lineup with both Big Hurt and Rj Davis but the dividends come mostly vs LH SP....

With SF you always have to see there lineup first as but once I think they played everyone...Aurilia homered today and remember I said he needs to start playing 3rd with Bowker at first...well he did and he won them the game...Reds dont look good lately and Sanchez is a good young arm...like Harang so might have to say Under 7.5 really dont like much of thelineups for either...

Really think my Yanks stand out the most because I love there improved approach at home plate . We lost because Posada hit into a DP to end the game but in a sense it was the best thing possible for them. What would happen if they played extra innings? The game ended at nearly 1 AM or midnight in that region. They would have been drained and further depleted an overworked pen. So it was almost a blessing to lose. Plus with all the factors of the 4 game series , the playoff payback , etc its puts NYY in a spot where they want to start off the series on the right foot. Winning 2 of 3 increases confidence but not getting sweep keeps the hungry IMO rather even a bit complacent.

Cle struggling with LHP and Pettite won @ the Jake 5-2 and lost 2-1 in the playoffs. He opposed Westbrook and Carmona laying 130 in each and both guys alot tougher then Byrd IMO..Pettitte has allowed just 4 runs in his last starts all away and total 20.2 innings so he should get to the 7th and hopefully complete as we then have just the 8th to worry about before Mo comes in..Byrd has been real good his last two and seems in a groove he has been okay vs NY past few years so thinking maybe a playoff type atmosphere and the UNDER...??All NYY trends say under but all Cle trend say over and at 9.5 with shaky oens on both sides might pass or go 1st 5 under. One thing is remember NYY had ahuge UNDER streak and even though they plays may not look like overs we could see a run of overs to correct that huge variance.....so being cautiou sthere and seeing how it shakes out..long days for both today also makes me feel under 1st 5 innings...and I think NYY has done very well vs CLe and @ the Jake past few season we did sweep them before the playoffs in 2007...and we have our stopper after LOSSES in Any Pettitte...GL all see y atmrw !

I played OAK today but wonder if ome peeps had a hard on for Liriano and Minny today. If so they might jump ship and take OAK here with Sea as u said choking away...Batista has been a home SP the past 2 years as his road splits are terrible but he pitcheed well @ LAA agreat sign IMO...Oak built to face LHP at the moment...which they saw today...Eveland is okay but as you pointed out the lineups he faced werent as tough as SEA vs LHP...the White Sox had him on the ropes and he didnt pass the 5th. I know VK disagrees but the WSox will be on eof the better offenses vs LHP and avg isnt a concern with me I am talking runs scored...Cle doesnt hit lHP . KC hasnt hit and probably has 4 of the better 5 or 6 hitters swinging LH...and suprisingly Tor has been terrible so far vs LH so absolutely agree big tesr for Eveland and Oakland...perception should be on Oak here being the better option but I think its misperception..BOL:cheers:

yes SN - I know what you're saying, I just like having it correspond. I don't use just O/U records because that can definitely be inaccurate but the strike % is the telling # for me.

interesting about Burnett, had no idea about that and probably wouldn't have, it's a pain to back KC b/c of their bats but their bullpen is what keeps me coming back. combine that with Bannister and Grienke (we'll see if he continues of course) and I'm sold on this team winning close games.

always a good read SN, haven't capped much of the rest but nice getting some opinions in.

sportsnut,

isn't that Boston/Tampa game in Orlando, Disneyworld?

You could be right its late here and I am just talking off the cuff without really researching. I just assumed TB was playing the Tor series in Disney so truthfully I have no idea where this game is being played...

S I am looking it up as I type.. .

According to the OFFICIAL game thread @ Covers ....

Game Time: 7:10 PM
Stadium: Tropicana Field

so for now assuming back in TB...if you know better please tell ...GL bro:shake:

just checked. Its the Trop tomorrow. The Ray really should play all their games @ Disney. I'm pretty sure they're undefeated there.

CIN @ SF U7.5 seems a little low IMO. but that all depends on how Sanchez (LHP) pitches because Harang has already pitched two 8 innings games with one ER in both and only one bad outing this year. Sanchez not very experienced yet but he did have success vs the Reds last year, but they still prefer LHP.

Train..over at CoPa...why is Nate getting respect....Jim called him out again last weekend...maybe due for a gem..but jeebus

SN - I actually kind of disagree about an OVER in STL/HOU. I know Chacon has a reputation but he can pitch well and has been doing so this year. Looper great #'s vs the Stros as well

Thanks bro...love my MLB...I actually havent capped anything either othen maybe looking at the Yanks -Tribe some..

With the UMPS I understand why everyone is into them and I dont mean to put anyone down for using them or coming off sounding like I am . I do look at them but I am just saying I think our ability to make decisions is actually hurt by the more info we recieve. For me today did it really matter that I knew Bonderman would be shaky or that Chris Young would shutdown SFG and outpitch Lincenum. Honestly it didnt my logic might have sounded great and possibly acccurate but all that matters is they still lost. So if UMPS are helping you get on the right totals and say hit 70% of them but if they arent then I think its just more info we could all probably do with out. I would rather know the players day , night splits , home-away splits , RH-lH splits ,etc then who is calling balls and strikes....I pitched for 20 or so years and I really dont think an ump had much to do with my success or lack there of at times...sure there were pitches Ifelt guys missed and sometimes it hurt me but when I was on it really didnt matter. Thats what I am really trying to say ..the umps effect is just minor overthe long haul..

Sorry for the boring ramble. I didnt want to come off as sounding like the info was useless I just think better situational analysis says more about totals and also how they are set and being bet then the guy in blue calling balls and strikes...I see very few guys who are much different in the ball-strike % as most guys are somewhere around 62%...I think runs avg isnt very useful unless you get a mean avg of the totals of the games they were umping and then even glimpse at the SP in those games. I rather see what happens with there pitch counts , the avg runs for the SP in there games and maybe if they have the trend of making low totals of say HAmels vs Johan go over OR two crap SP who seemingly havehigh totals that seem to go under alot...

Its just to much work IMO for such a minimal factor in the outcome....:shake:

Do not like tomorrows card at all.

like a couple totals pending weather and umpires but the sides are not appealing at all. The lone exception is the white sox but i dont want to lay that big of a price ... likely get a total or two or just gonna have to sit the day out.

just the same .... great thread here tonight

SN - I actually kind of disagree about an OVER in STL/HOU. I know Chacon has a reputation but he can pitch well and has been doing so this year. Looper great #'s vs the Stros as well

Not excited about Loopers performance lately . Knew he was ripe to be faded last outing so dont have much faith in him at the moment. There pen is inconsistent and maybe a bit overworked of late. Chacon is definetly a Hot - COLD type of guy...so being he is usually one or the other an not inbewteen I would tend to agree and assume he will continue to pitch well but the Cards lineup is one of the better he has faced so as I like to say sort of test.....

Looper is struggling vs RHB right now and that is a concern with so many solid RHs inHouston. Also he completed just 6 innings once his 1st start vs Wash who hasnt hit much yet so not rally a plus in my book despite solid outing. LAst year 4 starts vs Houston with avg numbers IMO..24.2 26 h 9r 6bb 9ks...which indicates he probably was lucky enough to escape a few jams and the big plus was zero HRs allowed...can he duplicate that ? Also while he does have excellent career splits vs them how serious should I take them or weigh them when its only 5 career starts and 4 came last year?

I see 24 for 61 vs him from Berkman , Pence , Tejada , Matsui , Towles , Lee which leaves 2 spots and granted most guys have less then 10atbats so not the most accurate sample...Bourn , Erstad or Cruz could see an OF spot they are 3 for 9 combined maybe Loretta or Blum take s a IF spot and they are 5/24...Which tells me not to be greatly influenced by his career splits...

By no means am I saying I think the over 9 is the correct play. Just kinda thinking outloud at what I see. Basically I dont see Looper as sharp but I like to think people will look at his splits and assume so. He allowed 3 runs in 5 + @ Houston and that was before the Stros bats took off so I would guess he wont do better here...

So I look at is a the type of game that really could be 4-4 at some point..also they see bith SP for the 2nd time this year. Neither have real deceptive stuff so the more often yo face the better the chances they get hit IMO..Looper in his 5 career games vs them pretty good once 1r un in 6 , real good once none in 7 inn and then medicore in two starts around 3 runs in 6 innings and bad in the other....Granted his home ERA was real good but I see his incredible day splits and assume alot of his home starts were day games and his 6+ ERA at night is concerning because his BAA is 304 compared to 198 in day games..

Also look at Looper after April 2007..

He was pretty medicore but granted his Hous starts didnt come until may 3rd ...so that is telling in a sense that even when he was not doing as well he found some success but I also think Hous upgraded there lineup from last year with Towles , Tejada and Matsui..which as soon as Matsui came back they really took off...

142 INN 161 H 93 R 89 ER 20 HRS / 25 starts 41 BB 69K 5.64 ERA from May 1st on...1.42 WHIP..which seems to fall in line with his stats now with the exception that alot of teh damage occurred vs SF...

Again just the types of things I weigh only starting a discussion have no idea if I actual play the over or pass...GL:cheers:A glimpse into my warped mind..

Do not like tomorrows card at all.

like a couple totals pending weather and umpires but the sides are not appealing at all. The lone exception is the white sox but i dont want to lay that big of a price ... likely get a total or two or just gonna have to sit the day out.

just the same .... great thread here tonight

Look forward to your thoughts and commenst tmw...really like WSox on paper...-140 or so with Buerhle top of the rotation guy vs Burres a guy trying to show he belongs in a ML rotation seems fair and of course I like CHI vs LH and dont see Balt as matching up that well..GL:shake:Also agree that the sides arent overly appealing..

I gotta get some sleep after 3 AM here...but at least no day games...so be back in the AM to look at the thread..give me some good reads...:shake:I always enjoy other peoples opinions whether I agree or disagree its never anything personal usually a different way of looking at things..

Train..over at CoPa...why is Nate getting respect....Jim called him out again last weekend...maybe due for a gem..but jeebus

I don't know if it is Nate getting respect or the Detroit bats covering his ass against Santana on the road. Take the previous sentence and add the fact that LAA is in a letdown spot seeing as how they extracted their revenge on Boston @ Fenway.

thanks for your thoughts SN,

I have no exp. playing the game of baseball so great to see your input on this one. I completely understand where you saying and I'll take your advice over others when you've played the sport. It's more of something to tie into the bet and usually it's someone on the field blowing the total for you instead of the ump. But I completely agree, I look at statistics first, throw in the ump info to weaken or strengthen my bet when you have an obvious OVER or UNDER ump strike% wise. There are plenty of guys hitting around the 62%-63% area so just labeling them as Neutral is fine. I dont even want to try to count how many games I should have bet but changed my mind due to an umpire but then again, I wonder how many times I'm thankful for not placing a bet because of an umpire. who knows - I view totals as one of my strengths so whatever I'm doing is working lol. Thanks again for that "boring ramble"

didn't get much sleep but trying to jump into this card.

Why so sold on Olsen? Gallardo pitched a stellar game in his 1st game of the year. MIL would prefer to face some LHP but Olsen has been rolling, I just don't like the fact MIL likes to face LHP. the offenses he faced this year aren't anything special except ATL who owns LHP. May be some good value but Olsen has to slip up sooner or later. Still a great price on him the way he's been pitching so far this year... I just don't know if I'd pull the trigger. I know he's keeping the walks down and attacking the strike zone more, pitching to contact but still haven't really seen him pitch this year.

I really hate bookmaker sometimes...

-109 on Zona, Wolf been pitching great by Zona proved me wrong when I believed they weren't great vs LHP. They are hitting an absurd .304 with an OBP of .384 against lefties this year. yikes. that total is absurdly low... the only problem with that is the Padres have to hit so it might actually go under. heh. im gonna wait to see what I can get with arizona.

Just started looking. Bruney is not available so Yankee pen fairly weak today. Alex might DH. Thinking Yanks first 5 if I play.

I like to think of Philly as a team that loves to mash LHP and Adam Eaton has been rocked by the Pirates. DUKE is a better pitcher at home and at night so he has that going for him but his WHIP this year is 1.76... still he pitched well @ home with 6 of his 7 Ks this year were recorded at home vs the Cubs 3 starts ago. He's recorded 0 since, or you can look at it as 1 K in 3 road starts (15.2 IP) vs 6 Ks in 1 home start (7 IP)

all these lifetime #'s vs a team, the Rays in particular I think you have to throw out... I mean Upton/Longoria/Pena/Iwamura/pitching/EVERYTHING is completely different from YEARS ago. You have to be careful when look at this... I think it's useful to know but you have to think about who's on the team as well...

Otherwise you could say Pettitte owns them but once he went from NYY to HOU back to NYY he obviously has pitched worse vs these Rays even if he pitched well this year.

Granted Wakefield is pitching away and in a dome... that's something to look at. He had a 4.08 ERA vs the Rays last year, not terrible by anymeans but his ERA at Tropicana is what you need to look at because it was 2.50 last year.

Garza v. BOS, but both at fenway and Garza has a horrible indoor/outdoor split. indoor 6+ era vs a mid 3 era outdoors

Agree. Thought about how the makeup of the Rays has changed dramatically over the last two years or so. Better hitters, slightly better pitching and bullpen. Same results though so far. Might be on the sidelines and see what happens. :shake:

I like Cubbies also...been very productive vs. LHP.
Nats are 3-10 vs. RHP. When Perez faced Mets, (another good lineup vs. LHP)....I don't have notes in front of me, I think he only went 5 innings, on 5 or 6 runs allowed.

..also Angels are tearing up LHP. Data analysis on lineup production against LHP is a bit flakey cuase the data sample, (especially this time of year) is far less than vs. RHP, but their team OPS vs. LHP is almost .900.
Ervin has a 22-6 K/BB ratio, and he settled in nicely at his start on the road in Arlington after a rough first inning.

First bet. Brian Burres first half plus .5 and ml. Old habits die hard especially if you have made a lot of money with them. Leaning to Cubs myself but may wait for umpire.

No strong feel on the Yankee total but Pettitte seems to go over more vs bad teams.

Have played Florida ml 60% and 40% alt runline. Olson had legal problems off season. Think some bonding occurred. Florida on the road vs righties 325 to Brewers at home vs lefties 311. Florida at night 12-6 to Brewer 3-5. Nothing in stone here as Brewer starter has been a winner at night but a little skeptical. Brewers won 3 at home early vs Giants. Won 1 vs Reds. Lost 2 to Reds. Then Split 1-1 with Cards and Phillies. Lost after a very solid game by Suppan. Are 2-4 last 6 at home. May add depending on ump.

No problem Renew. I like talking "shop" and exchanging ideas with everyone. I fell I am knowledgable in sports and handicapping and like to share my logic but also conversations are always a great way to learn for me as well . All my life I felt like I learned alot by just listening to people especially ones I respect which I would say I do all the guys I interact with here at CTG. So yeah I am opinionated and might often disagree with folks but as I say it not personal its just me being me..greatest thing about posting is accountability...

As far as the UMP goes like I said I totally understand why they are looked at. I guess the longer I do this the more I feel comfortable looking at the spreads and knowing what is wrong and right but also where the value lies. So the more the info I start looking at the cloudier my decision becomes because it can instill doubt. Anyway alot of this came from some winter discussions with JPicks who really helped me get on a good track mentally recommending I read the book Blink . That and the adderall for my ADD has worked wonders. To me in general the term capping is overrated . If it was just about "capping " who wouldnt be successful at this? With so many games and plays to be made available it boils down to decision making . I agree that there is a correlation with everything. I for one liked the Yankee under and seeing Emmel umping probably locked me into mentally. Which made me ignore the rain issues and not acknowledge the fact both SP could be lost here real early and toso-so pens could be called on...

What works for one person may or may not for another. I think its goods on some level to acknowledge who the ump is but I still think it boils down to more how the game should play out...if we say a guy is an under or over guy still at best they probably go the other way at 1 of 3 games so I guess it eachgame is indivual in circumstances ...

Do I really want to take an over 11 with Emmel behind the dish ? Probably not but whats more important him ump or my belief the game should see alot of runs based on what I see...and vice versa of course.....

Just gonna start looking at this card...GL today..

Not focused on totals but played over 8.5 in the Dodger game. Not sure how this goes under.

Starting to dive in dont want to spend to much time on any one game...

LAA @ Det. real tough game for me. Clearly Ervin Santana is the better SP to this point. However how heavily can I weigh his road starts when I see he faced Minny and Texas? Granted Texas has been unkind to him but the Rangers have really underperformed as a team and an offense to this point also with a roster turn over. So was it his pitching or there inability to hit ? They did get three in the 1st I believe. Twins just havent much at all and I think even less at home. So not really big pluses for me. Then I see his 2 starts the past 2 years @ Det not very good and understandably I have to weigh how bad he was on the road in this period. However 14 hits and 13 runs in 7.2 innings covering 2 starts while his team was outscored 21-0 is very scary. However Guillens absence here does hurt and not sure if Sheff returns here. LAA probably taxed there pen some in Boston but not exactly sure how much w/o digging into it the boxscores. Santana was hit hard by DET RHB past 2 seasons. Even as good as he has been so far still his home splits still are much better then his away splits even after only 4 starts.

With DET there pen has suprised with a 2.34 ERA especially the middle innings guys Grilli and Lopez. Actually take Miner out of the equation who has been hurt by a couple bad appearances there pen has allowed 12 runs in 60 innings with 45 and 23 bbs...thats 1.80 ERA !! There LHP Seay and Rapada have done well while Bautista and Jones have exceled in the 8th and 9 so far. So DET could have a huge there especially since we could see them turn into the pen in the 6thinning here. Which they also may go to RHP early possibly negatating the fact they face a LHP to start. Robertson was shelled in LAA but who cares the game is in DET and in 2006 he was real solid vs them at home. I weigh that as more relevant. The rest of the stuff is just to far back 03-05. Robertson hasnt been good but he could pass for decent at home so far.

you look at so far what they did vs LHP and I dont get impressed. They faced Lester on short rest , Washburn at home vs Santana no less and Gabbard earlier in the season.

Gabbard 7 inn 7 hits no runs 2bb 4ks and hendrick played.
Washburn (exteammate) 6 inn 10 h 4 r /er obb 1 k
Lester ( last minute start and on 4 days rest) 5 Inn 9 h 4 runs 2bb 1 K 2 hrs

So really whats to get overly excited about this team vs a LHP? For the most part I weigh more how the starters fare then the actual stats because you dont know much about the situations they hit in vs the relievers. Alot of LHP out of the pen arent very good. Perfect example Erin O"Flaherty of Sea 1 outing 2.2 inn 8 hits 6 earned runs...sorely that skews stats...my biggest thing about stats is trying to understand the context in which they were accumulated. With LAA it seems they do alot of scoring of opposing pens and I mean alot..remember that Gabbard start above they got 6th in the 9th inning that game and the O'Flaherty example above thats 12 runs off pens in 2games. All year they have 116 runs in 23 games...So yeah LAA can hit bad pitching and I am not saying Robertson isnt bad but I think he is better then most of the garbage they scoring off. I look at all of last year just 4 hitters in the 300 range and 2 of them had just 50atbats vs LH Napoli & Aybar. Vlad and Figgins did well but Vlads production want excessive 5hrs 19 rbi in 109abs whne you see Orlando Cabrera have 4hrs and 21 rbi in 133 abs..Matthews was terrible at 175 vs LHs. Which granted was a huge dropoff from 06 but again not sure what to make of his splits exactly. At 4/11 with 2 hrs and 6 RbI I can tell you he is 3-3 with 2hrs and 4 rbi vs O'Flaherty and Lester this year. Which makes me fell there numbers are FAUX for LHP.....

Granted Vlad & Figgins are 16/30 with 5bbs 1 K vs him 1hr 9 rbi and newly acquired Hunter is 12-40 1hr 4 Rbi so he has 3 tough outs at least today the key will be not letting those guys beat you and making the other 6 do it. Again back in early 06 he did go 7.1 inn 4 hits 1 run 2bb 6k when they had Figgins and Vlad plus Cabrera and Kendrick.

I guess with Robertson he is the picture of inconsistency. His biggest issue past 2 years is his inability to get LHB out and that has hurt him most so far. I suspect that we see all RHB for LAA today. Which might be a benefit to him. For the most part he has been about a 4 ERA SP at Home past few years and outside of 2007 generally picthed much better at night then day. He also in the past has usually been alot more effective when he gets better then 5 days rest but today he gets normal rest. Not a great spot in that sense....

Perfect example of the more INFO I get the more clouded it becomes. I am not overly excited based on what LAA has done vs LH SP. Robertson though will get the plus of pitching at home and night isnt getting that extra days rest which have helped his splist greatly in the past. Also he has battled back issues which might be part of the reason why he hasnt been very good more rest would benefit those. Strangest "trend" ever is how I notcied how poorly this guy is in the 4th inning which tells you the 2nd time the lineup gets to see him as he is usually facing the 2,3 ,4,5 hitters in that innings they hit him very well..

4th Inn
2004 27 runs , 25 earned in 28.1 inn 30 starts
2005 16 runs all earned in 28.1 29 starts
2006 12 runs all earned in 31 innings 31 starts - not suprisingly his bestyear as a pro 3.88 ERA
2007 22 runs 20 earned in 29 inn 29 starts
2008 8 runs all earned in 4 inn 4 starts

Also runs allowed dont tell the whole story look at hits per inning , bbs as combo for total baserunners allowed and of course BAA...trust me it always pretty bad outside of 2006...

So I bet we can tell tonight how long Robertson will be around and how good he is mainly by his work in the 4 th inning and to a lesser degree the 5th inning......

All this BS and I still can only say I expect a decent effort from both SP but DET at home with the better pen playng well seems to be my lean and not even a freaking play ! So if you see how I put a good hour into this you will understand why I dont post my own threads in MLB...I would be stuck in front of a computer for a good 12 hours just doing writeups!!!!

I think Santana will be solid especially with the benefit of not having to face Guillen but everyone from Mags , Pude , Sheff have done well against him
...

dare I say an under possibly 1st 5 under ???

Alright lost an hour now i gotta figure out what I want to play...:36_11_6::cheers:

Reluctantly adding Atlanta ml and small minus 1.5. This does not fit one of my filters. I think I still have to play. Mets organization is just too screwed up. Current form stinks relative to Atlanta. No Schneider. Just think they win with superb pitching or not at all and do not see it happening.

7 Pms-

Looking at the Pitt under 9.5 maybe 10. Why ? Both pens are pretty much at full strength though Lidge has pitched in like 5 of 7 and could see a day off. Eaton was real solid on Sunday vs NY until the 6th inning wher ehe couldnt record an out after keeping them scoreless. All that I can think of is it was the 2nd time he started vs them in about week so his stuff was okay that night but maybe now see himming for the probably the 5th or 6th time in a short span it was just a huge plus for NYM lineup. Not syuprisingly it was the top of the order. Eaton has been solid after struggling all spring and barely making the rotation. He has faced the Reds and Mets away while hosting Houston and NYM. All solid lineups built differently so thats a plus and Philly middle relief has been real good with Flash really the one key guy struggling. Most of Pitt is not hitting and Mc Louth has slowed some(4/21) after a monster start . The key guys are Nady , Bay and Doumit who is not a sure thing to play. Howard is expected to sit and the Phillys who when hitting are three guys who are tearing it up Dobbs who probably will sit vs a LHP . Utley and Pat the Bat. Only 10 hrs and 24 rbi past 7 days for that trio(sick!) but no one else above 250 although Werth has hit 3 hrs...After Pitts top trio really no one above 230 maybe Paulino if he plays but 3/9. Duke clearly much better at home and while his stats are medicore he has faced alot of tough lineups and 3 of 4 were away.

Philly 36-182 .198 4hrs 11 rbi outside of Dobbs , Utley and Pat the Bat
Pitt 30 -161 .186 1hr 12 rbi ( trio 3 hr 12 rbi)

Now granted you have to weigh the fact the streaking hitters will play but those bats have carried both teams and the run production still has not been good. We could have Dobbs and Doumit sit . Utley does a face a LHP regardless of splits I would rather see him face a LH. Same goes for Nady as well but Bay does prefer RHP it seems. Eaton probably better on the road to date as well and definetly bonus to have Duke at home. While Eaton's ERA stunk he did go 7-3 away lastyear despite a 6 ERA but his BAA was nearly 25 better on the road and in the same amount of starts 15 went 9 more innings on the road. Also was 8-3 on 5 days rest compared to 2-6 with more rest..getting about cooler here in the NE as well....

Outside of when they blasted Backe in the day and had those meltdowns comebacks vs COL pen the Phills have not topped 5 runs in the past 11 games while Pitt despite struggling on offense managed to see 8 of 11 go over because they couldnt get anyon eout but different at home..Pitt at night just 3.9 runs , 4.2 vs RHP and while they have 4.5 at hom ethey also played a few xtra inning games..You look at Philly vs the 7 LHP SP they faced and didnt do much vs Oliver Perez either game think 4-2 and 5-2 scores and didnt hit Johan either despite the 6-4 final as the pens blew up. They did hit Chico at home , Redman and a struggling Francis in COL and a struggling Ted Lilly...while Duke isnt Perez or Johan he should be better then the Chico , Redman , etc class...as for a side true coin flip game dont trust Pitts lineup at all...

Lord do I ramble ! So Under 9.5 and 1st 5 under strong leans.....

Playing the Yanks for the reason I stated above...also Byrd did end there season as well which I didnt realize he was the one who opposed Wang till I thought about it and checked it. He was okay with 8 h 2bb in 5 innings . Typical postseason Yanks stranding runners and they have seemed to do better this series vs Chi in that department. Very happy they have worked the SP more and pitchers in generally...just look athow many pitches the Wsox staff had to throw this series...Byrd in his previous 2 starts vs NYY was hit hard 17hits , 16 runs 11 earned in 5 innings !! However in another 06 start he wa s real good at the Stadium losing 1-0 and generally had given NYY fits prior to that. He has been real solid past 2 even taming Boston at home but that was probably jsut before there bats took off but LHB are 333 enter NYY! LAst year LH hit 322 off him and 328 vs him at the Jake. Yo have to make him pay for teh baserunners though as his ERA was 5.68 H to 3.51 away. A big plus for NYY is Jeter hits him well as he needs to get going...

Pettitte was real solid both starts @ Jale last year leading NY to a plist both times he was -130 and versus much better SP then Byrd in Westbrook and Carmona so price seems fairly cheap with Pettitte looking sharp of late . He allowed just runs in about 14 innings vs them and Hafner sat the 1st meeting..as we know Cle struggling vs LHP and this was has had recent previous success plus the whole playoff payback angle should apply.....

At SHea two young SP go versus two lineups who havent hit much lately. ATL did get 7 yesterday but they also had 5 in the 1st off Badenhop . Previous to that they struggled vs LHP Lannan and Miller. Granted Pelfrey is not LH but he shown to be much better at home in his career plus the wetahre is changing in NY as the coll air drifts in which should keep the ball from carrying at Shea but figuring out those wind patterns is anyones guess. Both pens scary of late which makes 1st 5 under interesting. Jurjens has been real solid and I have been saying it ofr a week or two NY is not hitting vs RHP. ATLis 6-4 vs RHP but 7-3 UNDER while NY is 3-8 vs RHP but 6-4-1 over thanks mostly to the pen. 6 of 9 have gone under at home for NY and 5 of 7 with 9 or 9.5 totals. Also ATL is 13-7 under to date and odd trend NYM is 31-20 past 2+ years UNDER on Fridays....

Braves just 252 AVG away with 311 OBP and 4.2 per runs. Mets just 244 at home with a344 OBP and 4.7 runs. A 5-4 game certainly does the trick...

Also Mets pen home and away drastic basiclaly 34 innings inboth situtaions..

At home 21 hits 7earned 10 runs 2 hrs
on the road 39 hits 29 r 23 earned 9 hrs

Remember same innings 34 away and 34.2 at home..

Jurrjens has been solid even pitching @ Coors already while NYM hasnt seen him either and struggling vs RHP....since its a RHP lean to ATL maybe +1.5RL

In TB.....Have some interest if Boston more 1st 5 innings as to back Wakefield who is throwing/ pitching well and fading Garza off the DL. Would like to see Wake go deep which he has because the Boston pen got worked with all the late SP scratched recently.

Boston starting to strand runners and Garza had been okay vs them in limited work almost makes under 10 enticing.....almost....TB has a very solid pen so far...have to research Garza more and how long he may go...fade pitchers off the DL early on in the season has been great but Garza different because he actually made 2 starts then got hurt.....seems Carlos Pena gets a day off as well..

In Wash...looking at Wash because perez has pitched better then Dempster lately . Cubs look great at 6-1 vs LHP but look at who they have beat ...Gorzelanny twice and he just isnt right , the one in Pitt was in extras so they didnt really beat him , the beat Duke twice again a close game in extras was 2 up after 9 and DUke @ Wrigley beat down but SP travel poorly no make that terribly , Moyer 6-5 and Morales 7-6 get this both in extras ....so they have 4 extra inning road wins and beat Pitt twice at home and lost @ Hamels......

Perez has done his job really well outside of vs STL....Previous to the 6-1 start they were like 40-55 vs LH and the lineup hasnt changed actually minus Soriano and plus a LH Fukudome..perez has received like 5 runs of support while he has pitched throuhgh 27 innings thats insane. Cubs off ahuge winning run could be flat for a games and Nats after a terrible losing streak have won 2 of 3 could be ready for a mini winning streak...

Most of there losing was due to lack of offense and really no offense the bats have started to make a lil noise starting with that 5 run 9th inn @ ATL before the 2 game set vs NYM...and they faced two quality guys in Perez and Johan...

So looking at Wash.....

Be back shortly ...Yanks probably about 3 units wanna see some lineups:cheers:

So far ..

Under 9.5 -110 Pitt and Philly {1.5}
Yanks -130 {2u} may add to..
Under 9.5 NYM -120 {1u}

-Saw in Philly Coste playing for Ruiz an offensive upgrade IMO but with Howard out and a LHP they sit Jenkins and also plug in the kid from Double AA Harman at 2nd . He is labeled as a possible utility inf and this is his 1st ML start. To me if they see him as a utility INF that means he doesnt hit much but can play defense and mutiple positions...For bit they play Bixler at SS again and he hasnt hit . They use Mientkiewicz...7/33 on the yera just 2 doubles..and 10/47 career vs Philly..Bixler 158 just 6 hits (6/38 and no rbis )although consecutive games now with hits but no walks to 12 ks...LaRoche 149 starting to hit some 3/7 and he owns Philly pitching 329 10 hr 30 rbi suspect he may win this for Pitt......but in general only spots hitting for Pitt at the monmet 3-4-5...

Philly vs LHP
Werth 7-20 2hrs
Utley 12/35 5hrs 9 rbis lots of solo shots it seems
pat the bat 5-20
Feliz 5-23
Brunlett 3-16
Taguchi 2-16
Coste 1-2
Harman ---

So 15-77 plus a double AA kid so far vs LH outside ot Werth and Utley. Again as the pitching coach I would challenge both SP to make anyone outside of the top 3 on each offense beat you...

Coste and Werth real solid vs LHP last year but Utley who was very good had just 5 hrs all year vs them despite 39 rbis and 318 clip...Pat the Bat 255 the rest all new comers really..Feliz being RH is a plus but the splits arent really reflective of taht and Taguchi was really good at one time vs LH...so who knows whatto expect...

Still thinking about the rest:cheers:

Small ones..

Nats +110 {1u}
Over 9 -120 Nats {.75u}

Figured something have to give with Perez lackluster run support..confident we get 4-4 at some point..

Think I am retiring from Friday writeups...2nd straight Friday spent all day writing about games and wasting all my time cause its the exact opposite outcomes...

2balls 2 strikes 2 out no one on to Hafner turns a 3-1 NYY lead to a 5-3 defecit while Det has bases loaded b6th no out middle of the lineup and get s 1 run and still trails 4-3...

It is bottom of the third in the Dodger game. The score is 4-4. 1 out and 2 men on on this 8.5 total. No umpire or lineups. No wind. Just an obvious play.
