Stephon Marbury revealed yesterday he's going to look for his shot more this season than last.

Marbury's remark was jarring - a departure from his philosophy last season when he talked about reducing his scoring role and deferring to Eddy Curry. It was thought Marbury would further reduce his shot intake with the addition of Zach Randolph.

But Marbury believes he has to be more of a threat to make this work, and Isiah Thomas has apparently encouraged him behind the scenes to be more aggressive.

Instead, Riley pointed out what he believes was a bit of unfair scheduling. Last season, the Heat received their championship rings before playing the Bulls, who spoiled the ring ceremony with a 42-point victory.

''They sent our most bitter rival for ring ceremony night, and San Antonio got, basically, the worst team in the league,'' Riley said, half-jokingly, about the Trail Blazers, who used the first pick in the draft on center Greg Oden, who is injured. ``Thank you [commissioner] David [Stern]. Mavs should win but ATL's athleticism will be an issue for Dallas. ATL is young though so tough to predict how disciplined they can stay against the Mavs. Most likely pass.
 
I think the hornets are gettin a little too much respect here. -8 seems a bit high against a scrappy portland team who played the spurs real tough.

Suns when they get to take off the 2nd half of this game... will take the Lakers down big time tomorrow.

Lakers are nothing like the team that pushed the Suns to 7 the one year... much more like the team at the end of last season that couldn't compete on the road.
 
I like the Wizards... to even win S/U. Jamison is going to have KG on defense extended out on the outside... opening up the inside like never before... Allen, Pierece, Perkins, Rondo can't guard anything....

Thats cool and all except that Rondo and Perkins are both good defenders...both of them are much better on D than O at this point in their careers.

That being said, 7 is an awful lot of points for the C's to win by when they really don't have a bench. I'm going to be at the game so theres no way I'm betting on the road team, but I'll probably stay away from laying 7...

I totally agree. Sacto is a mess right now and that opening win isn't a real judge of anything.....Blazers played hard and stuck with SA longer than I thought.....early lean on Portland

Perkins IMO is a better defender than David Harrison, and Wizards failed to exploit the inside last night. This Wizards team would rather sit around the arc and jack up jumpers all day. For having such an explosive trio in Arenas, Butler and Jamison, they don't attack the basket. I don't think the interior will be that much of a factor, even if Jamison draws KG outside. The Wizards are one of the softest teams I've seen so far, not to mention Wizards+On the Road=:hang:

Agreed. Granted I'm a fan, so take from it what you will. But the Blazers are going to be a solid bet on big spreads this year. They will scrap for 48 minutes, McMillan has sent the message the last couple years, and it started to show last year, and the players took the responsibility this offseason. They play the Hornets well (2-1 last year [granted on win was w/o Paul & Peja]), these Blazers may be young, but they will leave it on the floor every night.
 
Also interested in Portland and Orlando. This Orlando team is impressing me a lot. Would be willing to lay a small number. Think both teams remember the 4 game playoff sweep.

James Posey may eventually get some money back for being suspended by the NBA for the Nov. 2 opener against the Wizards. But he is still going to miss the game.

An official with the players association, attorney Ron Klempner, acknowledged yesterday the union does not have the time to put Posey's case before an arbitrator before the Celtics' opener. Thus, Posey will sit.
"It's tough," said Posey yesterday. "I have to deal with it. That's just what happens . . . Of course, I want to be out there at the start of the season. But that's the price I have to pay."
The Celtics' forward was suspended by the NBA Aug. 31 for pleading no contest to a reckless driving charge from last April. Posey made the plea to clear the matter as he headed into free agency. He was not driving a car when he was charged. Posey's agent and the players association said they would appeal the matter, and filed the paperwork last month, saying they were certain the arbitrator would overturn the suspension once he heard all the facts.
In addition to sitting out the game, Posey also loses 1/90th of this year's salary of $3.206 million, or roughly $35,622. The appeals process will attempt to recover that amount. The union also is trying to recover additional fine money Posey lost last year for not meeting Miami coach Pat Riley's body fat benchmarks.

wiz plus 7/over 203' parlay perhaps, would go ml but they got home opener on deck...portland maybe, they have to assume they will have better shot with this game than against houston
 
Haha, the over's not a homer pick ... I probably won't even be on the Hawks tomorrow, maybe ML. The Hawks made a concerted effort to run during the preseason, so I think the line is too low basically just based on that. They Hawks have no answer for Dirk, which will suck. The three key's to the over for the Hawks, I figure, are Marvin Williams, Josh Chilldress, and Josh Smith. JJ is a given, those other guys have been shooting the ball really well all preseason, so I think that carries over (Marvin led the team in scoring). Horford will get his scrappy points, but he's gonna be starting at center with Zaza out, so Dirk will kill him, obviously. With Horford at center, the Hawks only choice of strategy is to run. This should go over 200.
 
If you lean Hawks +6 though, ML is a good bet because, unlike young teams like the Sonics/Blazers/Grizzlies who we've seen lose it at the end, Joe Johnson knows how to win games, he hit a couple game winners last year. I am supremely confident in him in the clutch. I'm not saying that you SHOULD bet the money line, just that, if you are leaning Hawks, you should think about it.

Don't see that happening, despite what anyone thinks about the preseason, this team is extremely confident. But I do worry about how low the total is, then again, it's hard to tell what Vegas thinks about each team's style of play since they haven't done anything yet. The Hawks were one of the lowest scoring teams in the league last year, so I think it could possibly be a carryover from that, hopefully.

Baron will get a ton of minutes tonight as stated, and the thing GSW cant do is board, and now w/out Elton, neither can Clips. LAC fans are white-bred as can be and I expect a decent contingent of new found GSW fans. Clips are going to be the worst team in the league this year maybe, besides SAC.

You guys provide good reasons for the ATL over....I think Dirk and crew went out last night (their 1 time a year in the ATL) and got hella faded.....Love Birds w/ the 6+

Also, line hasn't moved from 5.5-6 since open, yet 75% on Dallas....thoughts?

I too was concerned about the clips rebounding but wouldn't worry so much against a team like GS. Clips have a commitment to rebounding and Dunleavy makes them run extra suicide sprints in practice for every missed box out during a game. As a result, they only got out-rebounded once in their 8 preseason games. Yes I know it was only preseason, but they wont be as bad as most people think.

I know more than 1 LA Clips season ticket holder, and to say it doesn't get very hyped is an understatement.
