FIGHT NIGHT - TUIVASA VS TYBURA

FIGHT NIGHT - TUIVASA VS TYBURA

Early Prelims:

1/1.64 Chad Anheliger +164

  • 3/1.94 Cory McKenna -155
  • 2/1.15 MCKENNA/AMORIM FIGHT GOES THE DISTANCE -174
  • 3.60/3 Moises wins inside distance -120

McKenna has shown an ability to survive and has shown an impressive chin so far. Amorim probably doesn't have the accuracy or power for a KO, so expect McKenna coming forward for the whole fight and doing enough to carry the cards.
Ramirez has real power and will be dangerous so long as this fight lasts, but Thiago has loads of experience against some of the best in this division. Seems like a tough matchup for "The Fight Stalker" against such a vet with a great sub-game. I believe the sub to be inevitable.

3/1.94 Cory McKenna -155

ESPN Prelims:

  • 4/2.00 Josh Culibao -200
  • 3/3.15 Filho wins inside distance +105
  • 3/1.67 Osbourne/Filho u2½ -180
  • 2/2.54 Chelsea Chandler +127
  • 4/1.60 Davis points handicap -3½ -250
  • 1/10.75 Davis wins in round 3 +1075

  • Culibao(11-2-1) is a fairly polished fighter, but still likes to brawl. Both fighters are usually more than willing to engage in an all out war and could even prove a FOTN candidate. Silva missed weight by over 2 LBS so je may have underlying issues, so I'm going to back "Kya" versus the debuting Silva.
  • Filho(15-3) is a solid grappler who will push pace and eventually be able to exploit Osbourne's grappling weakness. He has shown prover finishing ability as well finishing his last 9 wins(9-2)...probably the sub more likely but I'l just go ITD.
  • The lady fight is a tossup, but I do believe Chelsea will have the advantage on the ground, where this fight likely plays out mostly. Nunes can crack although, so it's a coin flip whether Chandler can avoid big early shots, but I'll take that chance.
  • Davis (10-2) & Levy (8-1) are the feature prelim and should be interesting. Davis loves to throw bombs and wrestle-fuck you if he can't land early, while Levy will look to control distance with frequent kicks at range. Davis will eventually get through with constant pressure and either get a late stoppage or enough control time to dominate the cards.

6004d-17105755877337-1920.jpg

  • Meerschaert (35-17) & Barberena (18-11) neither do much to instill confidence but the fact that "GM3" is laying over 200, I'll back "Bam Bam" at +205
  • Chiasson(8-3) has the size and is more well-rounded. I see no reason to back Pannie, they've even fought before in the 2018 Ultimate Fighter, Macy got a R2 sub then and I would expect similar today.
  • Rodriguez(10-1) gets moved up to 145 after failing to make 135 in his last 2 fights(both wins), he has won 3 straight including the upset over super prospect Raul Rosas Jr. last April. He gets another highly touted prospect today, and "CeeRod" will need to weather a likely early storm and grind this one out. If the size don't prove too much, I like the dog's chances. 135 to 145 is a tough transition, with very few fighters ever doing well after that move.
  • What the hell Saint Preux is doing still fighting, I'll never know. He's been in the UFC for 11 years and his first pro fight was in 2008. He's 4-7 in his last 11 while fighting both HW & LHW. He does have enough experience he can likely carry this one over 1.5 rounds as there's no way I can lay -660 Nzechukwu(12-4) but 3-3 in last 6

[9-5 +9.32u]

  • 6.42/6 Tai Tuivasa -107
bam%20bam.jpg

  • Battle should be able to control the fight with his jab, kicks and length...plus he will always have the takedown risk Loosa has to respect. Loosa is dangerous though with speed and endurance, he may be able to take over the fight late. I'll pass on this one.
  • It's always fun when Tai comes to bang. Tybura needs to fight behind his jab but there's no fucking way Tai will allow it. Pounder! I was gonna take ITD but it only paid +100 so better value just to win, but I definitely expect finish.

Performance Of The Night Bonuses

Performance Of The Night: Jaqueline Amorim

With the extensive jiu jitsu background that Jaquelien Amorim has, it was only a matter of time until she locked up her first UFC submission.

The strawweight prospect went right to work against Cory McKenna – transitioning through a few submission attempts before finding the armbar early in the first round. Amorim’s submission was the fourth fasted in women’s strawweight history and it showcased just how talented Amorim is on the canvas.

Performance Of The Night: Jafel Filho

For the second fight in a row, Jafel Filho has put the flyweight division on notice.

Filho nearly submitted rising contender Muhammad Mokaev in his debut and then he succeeded in submitting Daniel Barez in his sophomore UFC appearance. At UFC Fight Night: Tuivasa vs Tybura he went back to the well against veteran Ode’ Osbourne.

Filho timed a shot and got Osbourne to the canvas. After that he just waited for Osbourne to make a mistake before sinking in a rear naked choke and forcing the tap. At this rate Filho will make himself one of the names to watch at 125-pounds.

Performance Of The Night: Macy Chiasson

Welcome back Macy Chiasson!

The bantamweight contender was away from the Octagon for a year and half and came back with a vengeance. Chiasson faced a familiar foe in Pannie Kianzad as the two fought almost six years ago on The Ultimate Fighter, with Chiasson winning by submission.

It was the same result at UFC Fight Night: Tuivasa vs Tybura. Chiasson took Kianzad to the floor and found the rear naked choke to get the win. It was an important win for Chiasson who is right back on track.

Performance Of The Night: Marcin Tybura

A heavyweight main event usually is a signal of banger fight and for as long as it lasted, that’s exactly what Tai Tuivasa vs Marcin Tybura was.

Tuivasa came out of the gate swinging, clipping Tybura with an elbow that opened up a cut on his head, but the Polish contender didn’t flinch. Tybura worked for a takedown and then started pouring strikes down on Tuivasa. When Tuivasa made an attempt to get of danger Tybura jumped on his neck and finished the fight.

It was the perfect bounce back performance for Tybura and keeps him right in the mix at the top tier of the heavyweight division.

...but most importantly I maintained my streak of winning $$ on every card of 2024, even after giving back in main event what was my largest play of the day. Tai once again proved useless on the ground after showing significant improvement in his last fight, but after parting ways with previous head coach Sean Sullivan he seems to have back-slid and may be closing in on retirement after 4 straight losses.
