Explain the Sheffield drop to me.....

I got Sheffield ultra late in CTG fantasy draft....and posted this on fantasy board for CTG League, probably get more input here:

It's not like the NFL, the Detroit Tigers STILL HAVE TO PAY ALL $14 MILLION DOLLARS.

Now anyone can sign him for $400,000, and I have no doubt someone will pick him up soon.

Why not keep the dude out of the outfiled rotation, let him gripe and cry all he wants and still make him DH and PH when needed? He has pride, he will still fugging produce.

$14,000,000 and they get nothing????

Shit man, give me 1/10th, $1,400,000 and I will do nothing for the Tigers too.....

he sucks and theres no roster space for him. now guillen can DH and anderson can play a corner outfield spot, improving our defense A LOT and hopefully keeping guillen injury free. sheff has sucked in detroit and was hitting .182 this spring. cut your losses and try to compete.

From reading the local stuff..that was big rumor yesterday and todays is the mets...

Leyland must still have some form of relationship going because he said that 3 NL teams have contacted him so far.

Huge talk for the past 2 days that Philly has interest and Sheffield is interested. Shef still believes he can play the field, so I think he has something to prove. So I don't think a DH is his first option. Unless another team can offer him a starting job or at least a platoon job, I think Philly is his best option.

Sheff's been carrying this chip on his shoulder for years now. Always playing the race card and shit too. Used to love the guy back in the late 90's, but not a fan of the way he's handled himself the latter part of his career

One thing you know you'll get from him is effort right out of the gate. The guy's sitting on 499 HRs. Impossible not to want to get that mark.

Thats one thing I will disagree with. He played exceptional that first half of his first year(2007). I mean, he was incredible imo for his age. Then he was out in the fuckin field in that game at Seattle and collided with Polanco I think and hurt the shoulder. Hasn't been the same since. He was hitting about .290-.300 clip at that point and was a force. Thats basically when that season started falling apart.

Mutts, Phils, Reds are the three interested....He says playing time is the most important for '10 audition.

I don't know that the Mets or Phils offer more PT than the Reds really..he'll get the left handed ABs from Dickerson and few throw ins for Votto...also if Dickerson struggles for 100 ABs, a quick hook isn't out of the question.

According to New York Newsday, the Mets have contacted Gary Sheffield directly and could sign him as soon as Friday night.

The Mets are reportedly his first choice, behind the Reds and Phillies. Sheffield, who's sitting on 499 career home runs, would give freshly opened Citi Field its first major milestone. He would probably platoon with Ryan Church in right field and could sneak additional at-bats if young left fielder Daniel Murphy struggles out of the gate.

Sheffield, 40, was hitting .178/.387/.378 this spring before he was let go by the Tigers, and should only cost the Mets a one-year contract at the league minimum, $400,000. Detroit is stuck with the rest of his $14 million tab.

Hell, I'd much rather have Johnny Gomes stealing ab's instead of Sheff.. with that clubhouse finally rid of Jr and Dunn, i'm excited to see some new leaders arise from the youth movement... Votto and Bruce aren't the most vocal guys in the world, but they'll lead by example. BP is the vocal leader of the group..

I like JHJr playing LF swinging two hole against lefties, and Dickerson in LF hitting two hole against righties. I'm assuming JHJr will take over SS duties for the time being, assuming Gonzalez isn't ready, which leaves left all to Dickerson. Question is, who's gonna hit two hole when they're both in the lineup? Personally, I'd pencil JHJr, since he hits for contact, works the count better, and is a talented bunter. Thoughts?

Yeah I've also been skeptical of Taveras from the get-go. "WTF" were the first words that came out my mouth. Not the ideal OBP you want from your lead-off hitter lol

That's a fairly sexy 9-1-2 imo. Essentially three guys capable of leading off/setting the table batting alongside each other - could be worse. I really hope Dickerson takes off. I love the energy he brings to the field, not to mention his tools. If he cuts down on the strikeouts and focuses on hitting for contact, he should be fine. He showed flashes of staying patient/weight back last season, which in return allowed him to drive the ball opposite field on several occasions, and seemed to find the gap in doing so. Based on his career minor league numbers, he's bound to endure his share of struggles during stretches of the season. Noticed he was cut-down quite a few times on the basepaths during spring ball... Speed is there though. Can't wait to see him hose a few guys with that arm..

I'm excited as hell though. I'm gonna do my best to make the trip up there Monday morning and catch the opener...
