WDIV, Channel 4 News in Detroit is reporting that beloved Tigers supporter and Comerica Park street busker, known to many as the "Eat 'em Up Tigers" guy, was killed in a hit-and-run crash about 3 a.m. Saturday when struck by a black vehicle while crossing Gratiot on foot.
He was reportedly with another well-known Detroit street person, known to many a "Dreadlock Mike," who was also killed, Channel 4 reports.
Detroit Police Sgt. Eren Stephens said Saturday the department will not confirm the victims' identities.
The Eat Em Up Tigers Guy is known for the percussive beat of his change cup, often held in an over-sized Incredible Hulk foam hand, accompanied by his infectious and repetitive chant, "Eat 'em up Tigers, Eat 'em up."
As a testament to how well known and beloved the Eat 'em Up Tigers Guy actually is,
a Facebook Page created in his honor in 2010 has over 28,000 "likes."
The Detroit Tigers are scheduled to play a home game against the Philadelphia Phillies at 7 p.m. Saturday.
